Dear Parents

I would like to start this week's newsletter with a massively deserved thank you to the PTA for last night's Christmas Fayre. It really was a lovely evening which was clearly enjoyed by everyone who attended. There has been a tremendous amount of time and effort put in over the last few months by many people. I am reluctant to name specific people as everyone has worked so well as a team and I fear I may leave someone out. However I am sure you join me in thanking everyone involved for creating an evening that reflects the family atmosphere of our lovely school. I am very aware that we rely heavily on your generosity and understand Christmas is a great expense for everyone. The money you have raised towards the development of the play areas is increasing rapidly and hopefully a lovely new play area can be created in the not too distant future. We do not yet have a final figure of the amount raised but I will ensure it is in next week's letter. Many thanks again.

This week our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes were collected. We were delighted to hand over 47 boxes which the children had donated. Many thanks to everyone who has contributed. We know these boxes will bring great joy and love to children who have so little. Thank you

Advent and Christmas preparations are now well under way and the sound of carol singing resounds through the school! The Reception and KS1 Nativity play will be performed on Monday 11 December at 2.00 pm and Tuesday 12 December 6.30pm. The performances will last approximately 35 minutes. Costumes need to be in school by Wednesday 6 December at the latest. Many thanks for those that have already been sent in. Could the children please return to school at 6.00pm on the evening of the 12 December for the performance to start at 6.30pm.

The KS2 Advent Service will take place on Thursday 14 December at 6.30pm at St Wulstan's Church. The children will need to wear full winter uniform and be dropped off at the church community centre between 6.00 and 6.10 pm. The staff will then take responsibility for the children so that you can take your place in the church. On Wednesday 13 December Years 3,4,5 and 6 will walk down to church to practice. We will return to school for the end of the school day at 3.30pm.

Over the past few weeks, Year 4 have been studying the exciting topic of 'Potions'. They have looked at how potions are used in stories and scientifically in medicine. The children have been developing their understanding of surgery and how it has changed over time with modern medicine. We were very fortunate to have Dr M Clarke visit Year 4 to discuss his role as an anaesthetist and how his job helps relieve people in pain during surgery. Look out for further examples of work and photographs coming soon on the Year 4 class webpage.

On Monday 11 December the Christmas post box will be in the main entrance for the children to post cards to their friends. Please hold onto the children's cards until then and Year six will do the postal delivery at lunchtime. Please ensure your child writes the full name and class on their envelopes to make our delivery system the envy of the Royal Mail!

We hope you have a lovely weekend especially if you are Christmas shopping!

Congratulations to our members of Areley Kings Football Club Under 11s for getting through to the semi-finals of the Stourport League U11 Vase in dramatic fashion after a thrilling game v Lickhill Colts on Saturday. Both teams battled well in this high scoring match with nothing between them at the end of normal or extra time leading to a breath-taking penalty shoot-out. Areley Kings confidently took their penalties and their keeper saved two of Lickhill's shots, leading Areley Kings to victory! Well done Jamie, William, Bobby and Mackenzie
