3 December 2021

Dear Parents

The long awaited Christmas celebrations start this coming week. The Reception and KS1 Nativity play will be performed on Monday 6 December at 6.00 pm and again on Tuesday 7 December at 6.00pm. The performances will last approximately 30 minutes. All the children will participate in both performances . Could the children please return to school at 5.30pm on both evenings.

The KS2 Christmas Carol Service will take place on Wednesday 8 December for Year 3 and Year 5 at 6.00pm in the school hall. The children will need to wear full winter uniform and be at school at 5.40pm.

On Thursday 9 December Years 4 and Year 6 will perform their Carol Service at 6.00pm in the school hall. The children will need to wear full winter uniform and be at school at 5.40pm. Thank you, we are sure these will be lovely celebrations as the children have worked so hard in their practices.

Thank you for all your very generous donations towards the Christmas Market. One of the most popular stalls (more with the adults!) is the teacher’s ‘Bottle Stall’. Thank you for all your donations of full bottles. As has always been our custom, an award of extra playtime for the class who contributes the most bottles! Thank you, we are very aware that we rely heavily on your generosity and understand Christmas is a great expense for everyone. This will be a lovely chance for the community to come together and get the festive season started. We are planning to hold the market outside in the playground so come dressed for warmth! Our newly formed Carol Club will be providing the entertainment. Stalls at the Christmas Market will include: Hot pulled pork rolls, hot dogs, chilli nachos, crepes and waffles, mulled wine, beer, soft drinks, hot chocolate, tea and coffee, Teacher's Bottle Stall, Jam Jar Raffle, Chocolate Bar Tombola, decorate a gingerbread man, pick and mix stall. There will also be a children's gift stall - each child will have a tealight jar that they have made in school and festive photograph of themselves packaged up ready to purchase for £3 - the perfect gift for family members or just a lovely keepsake for home! We very much look forward to seeing you there!

On Monday 6 December, the Christmas post box will be in the main entrance for the children to post cards to their friends. Year 6 will do the postal delivery at lunchtime. Please ensure your child writes the full name and class on their envelopes to make our delivery system the envy of the Royal Mail!

On Friday next week, 10 December, we have 'Christmas Jumper Day'. We don't wish anyone to go to the expense of buying a special jumper and if your child doesn't already have one any jumper can be customized with a bit of imagination and a bit of tinsel. The children can wear leggings or jogging trousers with trainers resdy for te afternoon's activity. No jeans please. We would like this to be a charitable event to support those less fortunate than ourselves. St Wulstan's Parish support the local food bank and we ask for a dried food or tinned donation. We hope this will allow all of us to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. Apparently the foods in short supply are: tinned goods, for example, rice puddings, custard, fruit, corned beef, ham, spam, spaghetti, macaroni cheese, potatoes, peas, carrots, sweetcorn. Other items: long grain rice, jam, squash (dilute), small jars of coffee, curry and pasta sauces, milk, shampoo, deodorant, razors, shaving soap, washing  powder, toilet rolls, tin openers. Many thanks for your support.

That afternoon, the whole school will be taking part in Kemp Hospice's Rudolph Run. The whole school will be running a few laps of the school field in order to raise money for Kemp. There is a Just Giving link below for anyone who would like to make a donation.

Thursday 16 December is our Christmas Party Day- a major highlight in the life of St Wulstan’s children (and staff!) Children come in their party clothes and an exciting day of festivities ends with a visit from a very special person! Please remember lunch is sausage and chips all provided by school so your child will not require a packed lunch hot meal order on that day.

We have said before there can be a misconception that only Catholic children can apply to our school. We welcome applications from all families of all or no faith. If you know of any families who are presently applying for a school place please encourage them to contact me to arrange a visit and tour of the school. Applications for Reception Class 2022 must be completed online by 15 January 2022. If you require any assistance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Brown in the office.

Also the children’s class pages and calendar dates on the school website are constantly being updated. If you have not looked recently the website address is https://stwulstans.sch.life Here you will be able to see photographs of the children’s day, their year group curriculum, newsletters and school information. We encourage you to log on frequently as the website has all relevant school information.

Could I end today by asking yet again to please park with consideration to our neighbours. Please ensure you leave ample room for local residents to access their driveways. Similarly please do not park on pavements or corners which endangers children and parents lives as they walk to school. Thank you again to the vast majority of parents who do park considerately and safely.

We hope you have a lovely weekend especially if you are Christmas shopping or visiting Santa
