Message from Mrs Brocklesby

This week began with a whole-school assembly focused on the Holy Trinity, helping the children reflect on the mystery and meaning of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We were also very pleased to welcome Father Richard, who ended the week by celebrating Mass with the school. During his Homily, he discussed the theme of the Holy Trinity, encouraging the children to deepen their understanding of their faith.

We would also like to keep in our prayers our Year 6 pupils who will be confirmed on Tuesday, Harrison, who will make his First Holy Communion on Saturday, and our Year 3 pupils who will make their First Holy Communion next Sunday. These are very special milestones in their faith journey, and we ask for God’s blessing on all of them and their families.

KIND HEARTS AND A HUNGER FOR JUSTICE

Message from Mrs Warnett

Reception

Reception have returned to school and hit the ground running with their learning this week. In Science, the children have been exploring push and pull forces, investigating a range of everyday objects and identifying how they move. In Geography, they have been learning about the seaside, discovering features of the coast and discussing things they might find there. They then linked this learning to Art by creating their own colourful crabs. During Forest School, the children enjoyed a variety of teamwork and problem-solving activities, developing their communication and cooperation skills. In PE, they began their new athletics unit, practising fundamental movement skills. In Maths, the children have been developing their understanding of addition and subtraction through a range of practical activities and problem-solving tasks. In English, Reception have been reading Somebody Swallowed Stanley and using the story as inspiration for their writing, imagining and describing the things Stanley may have seen on his journey. The class also discussed the importance of not littering and learned about the impact plastic pollution can have on our oceans and sea life. Well done Reception!

Year 1 and 2

Year 1 and 2 enjoyed sharing the wedding photos of loved ones in RE this week. The children had a lovely time sharing the photos and discussing their experiences of weddings. Thank you so much to any families who were able to share precious family memories with us. In science, the children have been learning how to identify and name common garden and wild plants. The children went on a 'wildflower' nature walk and completed tally charts to show how many of each flower they saw. Some children ran out of room for tallies of daisies, as you can imagine! The children were keen to tell us about plants they already know and what they grow at home. In DT, the class have started a new unit on structures and used play-dough to start investigating how to make structures strong and secure. The children have been reading 'Handa's Surprise' in English and have impressed us with their increasingly independent skills as they automatically apply the learning that they have developing throughout the year.

Year 3 and 4

Year 3 and Year 4 have had a really positive first week back after the half term. As the Year 4 children use their final few days to practise their times table before their 'official' test next week, the class have been pushing forward and challenging themselves to improve their recall and speed. So many children have significantly improved their knowledge and speed which has directly helped them in many areas of their maths curriculum. In history, the children finished their final lessons on ancient Greece by comparing life in Sparta and ancient Greece and recalling some of the Greek myths and gods. The children had lots of questions particularly about the Greek gods and were keen to research them in more detail. In science, the children researched and described habitat changes during the seasons and how living things adapt to these changes. They were also tasked with describing how climate change impact on habitats around the world and the animals within these are impacted. In RE this week, the children looked at the fruits of the Holy Spirit and how we grant each other peace during Mass. Our recent lessons have improved our understanding of the parts of Mass and it greatly helped children follow the Mass this morning, where Year 3, 4 and 6 celebrated together with the theme of the Holy Trinity.

Year 5

This week, Year 5 have been learning about Pentecost and its significance in the Church. As part of their RE work, the children created thoughtful Five Finger Prayers linked to the virtues of being attentive and discerning, reflecting on how they can listen carefully to God and make wise choices in their daily lives.

In Computing, the children explored coding and used their programming skills to design and create their own computer games. They showed great creativity and problem-solving skills while developing interactive games and testing their code.

We are very proud of their enthusiasm, creativity, and hard work throughout the week.

Year 6

Year 6 have had a fantastic first week back and have certainly kept themselves busy! They have been working incredibly hard with their sacramental preparations ahead of Confirmation next Tuesday, showing real focus and reverence throughout.

In addition, they enjoyed their first Harriers Health Kick lesson, which was a brilliant start to the term. Mr Tasker was also full of praise after their first Forest School session, saying that the children were absolutely amazing and that he was extremely impressed with their behaviour and attitude. If you haven’t already seen the Facebook post, the pictures really do speak for themselves!

The children have also been singing and acting their socks off as they prepare for their end-of-year production of Madagascar. They have shown such a positive attitude towards practising, which has been wonderful to see.

Well done, Year 6 - keep up the brilliant work!
