Message from Mrs Brocklesby
Yesterday we celebrated World Book Day which was organised by Mrs Tasker. The whole day was dedicated to the joy of reading and storytelling. Children and teachers came to school wearing their pyjamas, creating a cosy and exciting atmosphere for a day full of reading. One of the highlights was decorating T-shirts with fabric markers, where pupils designed shirts inspired by their favourite books and characters. Children also had the chance to buy Wonka Bars for the opportunity to find a golden ticket, which added an extra element of fun and anticipation. To make the day even more special, a cosy reading area was set up on the bank where children enjoyed a shared story together. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm for books and to celebrate how reading sparks imagination, creativity, and a lifelong love of stories.
FORMING CHRIST CENTERED PILGRIMS OF HOPE
At the Community of Saint Wulstan’s (COSW) meeting yesterday, parents kindly agreed to take on the key roles of Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. It was wonderful to see so many families eager to contribute to the school community in different ways.
During the meeting, several actions were agreed. A Facebook page and a dedicated email address are being set up to keep everyone informed. Families are encouraged to let grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other relatives know that they are very welcome to support COSW initiatives.
Additionally, a WhatsApp group has been created to share ideas and discuss plans. Anyone who would like to join the group can contact Mrs Brown, who will pass on their number to Maria who is our new Chair.
The next meeting will take place on Thursday 19th March at 7:00 pm; the venue is to be confirmed. It is exciting to see such enthusiasm, and we thank everyone who has offered their time and support, every contribution, big or small, helps make a real difference for our school community.
KIND HEARTS AND A HUNGER FOR JUSTICE
Transport Update
This week, feedback from parents highlighted a new idea regarding travel to Kidderminster. Families would like to encourage local bus companies to review and potentially adjust bus timetables. This could provide a more convenient and cost-effective option for transporting children to the train station in Kidderminster, making journeys easier and more affordable for everyone.

Reception
This week, Reception have enjoyed a wonderful week of stories in celebration of World Book Week. The children were treated to author readings and illustration read-alongs, which sparked their enthusiasm for books and storytelling. They have continued to work hard in phonics and have truly impressed everyone with their growing reading skills. In Maths, the children have been exploring the number 7 and investigating the different ways it can be made. In RE, they have been learning about symbols linked to Lent and discovering the meanings behind them. During Forest School, Reception took part in bug hunts and learned more about the natural habitats of different creatures. In Science, the children have been learning about the life cycle of butterflies, developing their understanding of how these fascinating insects grow and change. The highlight of the week was Thursday’s World Book Day celebration, where the children enjoyed lots of stories and had great fun decorating their T-shirts.
What a fantastic week it has been for Reception!
KS1
This week, Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed celebrating World Book Day. The children took part in a live drawing tutorial streamed by author and illustrator Jamie Gregory, where they learned how to create their own illustrations while following along step by step. Year 5 certainly had their creative hats on as they designed some fantastic book-inspired T-shirts, showcasing a range of beloved stories. Many children chose classics written by Roald Dahl as well as popular titles by David Walliams.
In Geography, the children have been busy researching the country of Benin. They explored both the physical features, such as the landscape and climate, and human features, including cities, culture and how people live there. Meanwhile, during Forest School with Mrs Tasker, the children developed some impressive practical skills. They practised carefully sawing wood to create small wooden medallions, showing great focus and determination. It has certainly been a productive and exciting week in Year 5 — well done to all of the children!
Year 6
Year 6 have had a fantastic and very busy week in school. The children have been working incredibly hard in Maths, where they have been investigating decimals. They have been learning how to round, add and subtract decimals, as well as multiply and divide decimals by integers. The class has shown great determination and have also impressed Miss McGowan with their clear and organised presentation.
In English, the children have begun exploring non-chronological reports. Over the next few weeks, they will be preparing to write their own reports all about World War 2, using the knowledge they have been building in their History and Geography lessons. The class is already showing great curiosity about the topic and is looking forward to developing their writing.
In Science, the children learned about the famous scientist Carl Linnaeus. They explored the classification system he created and learned about his life and interest in the natural world. The class enjoyed discovering how his work helped scientists organise and understand living things.
This week also included celebrations for World Book Day. The children were incredibly creative when designing their own T-shirts based on books and authors that they love. It was wonderful to see such a wide range of books and authors represented, and the children were very proud to show off their finished designs. Year 6 also took part in a live draw-along session with author and illustrator Jamie Gregory. The children really enjoyed hearing about his upcoming book, Bone Head: Guardian of the Underworld, and they even had the opportunity to ask questions.
There were also some exciting sporting events this week. On Monday, a number of children took part in the CTA football tournament and played brilliantly. To end the week, a group of girls also participated in a Girls’ Football Festival. All of the children who took part impressed Mr Tasker with their positive attitudes and excellent teamwork—well done to everyone involved! ⚽👏
