A very warm welcome back after what I hope was a lovely summer for you all. The staff and I extend a particularly warm welcome to our new children and their families. The children have all made a very good start to the new school year and there has been a happy and enthusiastic atmosphere in school when I have visited each classroom.
Thank you to everyone who has adhered to our new arrival and dismissal routines. As said last week, with the lifting of restrictions we hope for a return to more normality within our school community. However, we are very mindful in the interests of keeping everyone safe that we take small considered steps which will be reviewed regularly. Class teachers can still be contacted by the class email (Year1@wulsev.worcs.sch.uk , Year2 @wulsev.worcs.sch.uk etc) and either I or a member of the Senior Leadership Team will always be in the playground before and after school. Every teacher has published their 'Welcome letter' on their class web page. This introduces the year group and outlines the class routines ,expectations and key points. Please take time to read this and to look regularly at the school website for photographs and updates of what has been happening in and around the school. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact the class teacher or myself.
We are very aware that under present systems staff and parents are not meeting and opportunities to put names and faces together is limited. Hopefully it will not be too long before we will be able mix more but in the meantime please see staff photographs on the school website. To help below is a staff overview with names and roles.

We are pleased to welcome back Mrs Warnett who has now returned from maternity leave and resumes her role as Vice Principal. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank Mrs Tasker for all of her work as Acting Vice Principal and SENCo in an extremely challenging year. I am however delighted to say that from this term both Mrs Warnett and Mrs Tasker will job share the Vice Principal role which will bring great strength to the Senior Leadership team. Mrs Warnett, though not having class responsibility, will teach in different classes during the week covering teachers PPA so your children may well mention her. To ensure maximum learning support is provided for all the children, teaching staff will be supporting small groups, leading interventions and working along side other teachers so many of the names will soon become very familiar.
Applications for school places in Worcestershire for September 2022 are now open. For children applying for a place at High School the deadline is 31 October 2021. For applications to Primary parents have until 15 January 2022. Applications are submitted electronically online but if you have any queries please contact the school office for advice and guidance.
If you have a child due to star in September or know of someone who may wish to apply to St Wulstan's please contact me for a visit and tour of our lovely school. Please remember we receive applications from families of all faiths.
This week you will have received an envelope containing data collection forms via your child's book bag. Could I please request that these are completed and returned by Monday 13 September so we can update our records. It is vital that we have up to date and correct medical and contact details on file for your child's well being and safety.
A reminder also please the children can only use school water bottles for their classroom water. Several children have brought in different style bottles which have leaked not only on their work but other children's work. School water bottles can be purchased from the school office at a cost of £2.00. Thank you for your support.
The week continued excitedly for Year 5 as we welcomed Mr Mallinson to school to start preparations for the annual Hagley Pyramid concert hopefully at Birmingham Town Hall. This year the concert will take place on the evening of Thursday 17 February. Please make a note of this date as it really is a highlight of the Year 5 calendar.
Congratulations to all our Pupils of the Week and Discipleship Award winners this week, a super start children. Well done!
Year 4 have also started their Native American topic with some exciting map work activities.
Today, Year 3 enjoyed starting their topic ‘Tremors’ by welcoming Geologist Molly Mallinson (Mrs Mallinson’s step-daughter). They saw demonstrations about the rock cycle using chocolate, the layers of the earth using a watermelon, an avocado and a boiled egg and had hands on experience identifying rocks with real examples. Well done Year 3, there are many geologists in the making amongst you!
Year 2 have enjoyed the start of their Beatrix Potter topic work by going to pick blackberries by the river (just like Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail!). The children have then developed their cookery skills by baking some apple and blackberry crumbles. The whole school smelt delicious as they were baking and we are sure that they will taste wonderful!
I would like to end by thanking you again for your kindness and generosity shown in words, cards and gifts at the end of last year. It was very much appreciated by all the staff on whose behalf I thank you again. There is much planned this year to enrich our children's childhoods and learning and we look forward to an exciting year. If at any time you have any concerns at all about your child, be they educational, social or emotional, please do not hesitate to contact their class teacher or myself.
I hope you enjoy a lovely weekend
