Message from Mrs Brocklesby

As we come to the end of another busy and exciting week, I would like to thank you once again for your support during the recent spell of hot weather. Your understanding and flexibility in accommodating the changes to the dates of Sports Day and the Key Stage 2 production were greatly appreciated. A huge thank you goes to Mr Tasker for organising such a fantastic Sports Day. It was a wonderful event, with children demonstrating great determination, teamwork and sportsmanship, and it was lovely to receive so much positive feedback from families.

Today, our Year 6 children took to the stage to perform Madagascar, and I could not have been prouder of them. They performed with confidence, enthusiasm and incredible talent, showcasing the hard work they have put in over many weeks of rehearsals. Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 also played an important part in the production and were fantastic actors and singers. Their energy, commitment and enjoyment shone through in every performance, making the show a memorable celebration of the children's creativity and teamwork. Well done to everyone involved, and thank you to Miss McGowan and all the staff and families who helped prepare the children. The next performance is Monday at 9:15 am.

Today, your son or daughter has brought home their end-of-year school report. The report celebrates their achievements, recognises the progress they have made throughout the year and highlights the many strengths they have demonstrated both academically and personally. It also identifies areas for continued development as they move into the next stage of their learning. We hope you will take the time to read the report together, celebrate your child's successes and reflect on how much they have grown in confidence, knowledge and independence over the past year. We are incredibly proud of everything our pupils have achieved and thank you for your continued support in helping them to thrive.

A huge thank you to our PTA for organising this year's Indoor Summer Fete for the children. Their hard work and dedication in planning this event is greatly appreciated, and we are incredibly grateful for the continued support they provide to our school community. You will receive information about the planned fete for September early in the Autumn term.

Message from Mrs Warnett

Reception

Reception have continued to work incredibly hard this week despite the warm weather. The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in their very first Sports Day, and the staff were incredibly proud of the excellent behaviour, enthusiasm and wonderful sportsmanship they demonstrated throughout the event. In English, the children have been exploring the story Tiddler, enjoying retelling the tale and writing about the different things Tiddler saw and did on his adventures. In Maths, they have been developing their understanding of addition and subtraction through practical activities and problem-solving. In RE, the children have been learning about people who help us, with a particular focus on the different roles and responsibilities within the Church. It has been another fantastic week of learning, and the Reception team are very proud of all the children's hard work and achievements.

Year 1 and 2

Year 1 and 2 had a lovely walk to church this week as part of their RE unit 'Our Church'. The children walked down early in the cool of the morning and enjoyed some time to play at the Memorial Park en route! It was lovely to see the class share this experience together and show each other the different ways they like to play at the park. At church, the children learnt about the different features of Christian churches, examined the Stations of the Cross (with great interest in learning to read the Roman numerals on each one!) and had time to light a prayer candle each. Father Richard very kindly came to answer some of our questions. The children asked super questions, some of which even Father was not sure how to answer! Finally, they were challenged to count the number of crosses in the church. We found over 80! Wow! Thank you so much to Father Richard for our visit and to our two wonderful adult helpers for joining us. We really appreciate your help. We were so proud of KS1 as we watched them participate in Sports Day with such enthusiasm and excitement. The children were so proud of any stickers they won, but it was also so lovely to see how quick they are to celebrate the wins of others and showed great team spirit. Well done, superstars! 

Year 3 and 4

Another amazing week from Year 3 and Year 4, this week. In RE, the children researched facts and symbols linked to the Jewish festival of Sukkot. They found out many interesting facts and created excellent information booklets using lots of interesting techniques to share information. In maths, the children completed their unit on coordinates with great confidence. They plotted coordinates, translated them on a grid and drew 2-D shapes plotting their vertices. The children also enjoyed a game of Battleships applying their knowledge and understanding of reading and plotting coordinates using the phrase 'along the corridor (x-axis) and up the stairs (y-axis)'. Mr Tasker was so proud of the children's efforts and confidence to complete events on Sports Day. The children are always challenged to try their best and to challenge themselves with new targets and goals, which I think they all easily achieved. They also supported each other and celebrated their teams successes which should always be the case. In design and technology, the children completed their countdown timers and mindfulness task. Many should great resilience towards the end of building their prototypes as they needed to problem solve, but they showed a great sense of achievement when they overcome their problems and saw their prototypes in action. Finally, the children were excellent in their supporting act for the Year 6 production this morning. To learn movements, words and be up on a stage in front of so many parents and carers was a really big ask, but Mr Tasker could not be prouder of their performance and is looking forward to their final appearance on Monday. Well done, everyone!

Year 5

What a fantastic week it has been in Year 5!

In Geography, the children have continued their exciting learning about India. This week, they explored some of the country's most significant physical features, including the major mountain ranges and rivers. The children learned about the mighty Himalayas, the ancient Aravalli Range and the Vindhya Mountains, considering their locations and importance within India. They also investigated some of India's most famous rivers, including the River Ganges, and discussed how rivers support communities, agriculture and wildlife. The children demonstrated excellent curiosity and enthusiasm throughout their learning and have developed a much deeper understanding of India's diverse landscape.

This week has also been a very special one as Year 5 have proudly supported the Year 6 production. The children have been absolutely wonderful and have thrown themselves wholeheartedly into their roles and responsibilities. Whether performing on stage, supporting behind the scenes or helping with preparations, they have shown enthusiasm, confidence and commitment. We have been incredibly impressed with the effort, maturity and positivity they have demonstrated throughout the rehearsals and performances. They should all be extremely proud of themselves for the contribution they have made to the success of the show.

In Mathematics, Year 5 have successfully completed their unit on converting units of measurement. The children have worked hard to convert between different units of length, mass and capacity, applying their understanding to a range of practical and problem-solving activities. It has been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they tackled increasingly challenging questions and demonstrated a secure understanding of the concepts taught.

As we move towards the end of the school year, we would like to thank the children for their continued hard work, positive attitudes and enthusiasm for learning. They have represented Year 5 brilliantly this week and should be very proud of all they have achieved. Well done, Year 5!

Free School Meals – Check if you are eligible

The Department for Education has recently updated the eligibility criteria for Free School Meals. This means some families may now qualify, even if they have not been eligible in the past.

If you receive Universal Credit, you should apply. We strongly encourage all families to check their eligibility and submit an application.
