Dear Parents

Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend this week’s Showcase assemblies in Year 3 and Year 5.. Once again it was so impressive to see the children’s confidence in speaking, the quality of their work and the obvious enjoyment they have had whilst learning. Well done everyone!

Thanks also go to all those parents and grandparents who accompanied us on our whole school trip to Dudley Zoo today. There are not many schools who attempt the logistical exercise involved in taking nearly 200 children on a school trip but it couldn’t be achieved without the support of so many parents. We had a brilliant day at the zoo and were blessed with beautiful weather. Thank you all, it is a privilege to spend time with your children who are always polite and well behaved whilst also showing great enthusiasm. Particular thanks go to Mrs Edwards and Mrs Brown for all the organization that goes on behind the scenes.

Year 2 have had an exciting week. On Wednesday they walked down to St Wulstan’s church as part of their classroom work in RE. They were able to recognize both the religious artefacts and gain deeper understanding of their faith. The children were exemplary in their behaviour and learning. I do believe there was opportunity to stop off for a playtime in the park as well! Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who gave up their morning to accompany the children.

The last of our CTA sports competitions was held last weekend in the form of our annual swimming gala. Children from across Key Stage 2 competed against children from all the other Catholic primary schools in Worcestershire with some very creditable performances from our children. As ever, our children tried their very best and got through to the final stages of many of the races. As a school we are very proud of the way our children compete at these competitions as they always try their hardest and show great sportsmanship and this year we have had some great successes, including medals for Freya, Patrick, Erin and  William K.  I would also like to thank Mr Walton for the support and coaching he has given our children in the build up to the gala. Well done to everyone who has represented St Wulstan’s in any way this year – we are very proud of all of you!

On Monday 16 July we will be holding our annual Sports Day. For those of you who are planning to come along we hope to start around 9.30am up on the field.  Please wait in the playground until staff have completed setting up on the field and follow the path around the back of Lickhill school. If it is very sunny we will use the gazebos to provide shade for the children but please ensure that they come to school with sun cream having been applied and sunhats ready, and as always their water bottles. Can I ask parents  not to come across the track to the children during the activities. Mr Tasker has asked me to request some helpers to give out race position cards. Could you please make yourselves known to him  before Sports Day morning if you would like help. Thank you , we look forward to an exciting morning, competing as the houses of St Teresa, St Bernadette, St Francis and St Joseph.

To bring our academic year to a close Fr Richard will be joining us to celebrate our Leavers’ Mass on Friday 20 July at 9.15 a.m. Parents of children in Year 6 are obviously most welcome to attend and we look forward to seeing as many of you then. Please stay for refreshments afterwards.

I finish today with the news that Mrs Brown has been appointed as our new Office Manager. We are extremely grateful to Mrs Brown for the excellent support she has given since Easter and look forward to her taking up the permanent role from September.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and hope to see you at Sports Day on Monday.
