Dear Parents

Can I begin today by thanking everyone for their donations yesterday towards the appeal for Oscar. I do not yet have the final amount but will let you know as soon as we do. The children were so thoughtful, asking questions and including him in their prayers at school. Let us continue to pray that his treatment will be successful. Thank you again.

The School Sports Partnership’s first events of the year having taken place over the past couple of weeks which have caused great excitement amongst the children. The annual football league commenced last Wednesday with a team of seven taking part. Harriet, Ryan, William, George, Oliver, Oliver and James have demonstrated fantastic teamwork skills and determination while competing against other schools from the Wyre Forest area.

If the noise levels over at The Memorial Park seemed louder than usual last Friday, it was due to the annual cross country trials taking place. All of our Year 4, 5 and 6 children participated against other Wyre Forest schools, with over 600 children taking part in total. Although exhausted and muddy, the children’s enthusiasm shone through as they completed the challenging courses set out by the young leaders and Mrs Hammond from Stourport  High School. It was a really lovely event for all the children.

Next Thursday, 17 October, we will be holding our annual ‘Harvest Thanksgiving’ in school at 9.15am – please join us if you can. As Father Richard is away, we will have a Eucharistic service led by Deacon John O Brien, to which all families and friends are invited. As usual our harvest gifts will be sold and the proceeds donated to the Father Sunny Trust – a charity supported by both school and parish. We would be very grateful for any food items that can be donated for this on the Thursday morning. As well as their harvest gift the children can bring in a pound or two to purchase some of the produce. Any donations, fresh fruit and veg, flowers, bread, packets or tins of food are all gratefully received.Thank you, we look forward to seeing you on Thursday and please stay for tea and coffeee afterwards.

Our next ever popular PTA children’s cake sale will restart this term. The first will be held on Tuesday 22 October. Letters will be sent out soon requesting donations from specific classes. My thanks for both donations and to all the mums who organize and run these sales. For families new to the school a guide to cake sales! Every half term our wonderful mums organize a sale of cupcakes , cake bars etc. Each class in turn receives a letter requesting donations of cakes on a particular day. The children can bring in 30p on that day to purchase a cake at playtime. It is extremely popular with the children and raises funds towards the extras that the school budget cannot cover.

Half term break will soon be upon us. After half term all children will all need to wear full winter uniform. This consists of white shirt and tie and trousers for the boys( Red polo shirts are only for summer). The girls winter uniform is white blouse and tie and grey skirt or pinafore.I know many parents will take their children for haircuts over the half term break. Again we remind you that extreme haircuts are not acceptable. Several parents have asked what is the permitted cut and we request a Grade 3 is the shortest. Several children have had extreme haircuts recently and once grown out we request that you adhere to our uniform policy. Thank you for your support and to the many parents who double check with me before taking their child to the hairdressers

After half term we will be holding our annual Scholastic ‘Half price Book Fair’. The fair will be open before and after school timings to be confirmed next week. This is a good Christmas shopping opportunity as the books are popular and genuinely half price. A further bonus is the commission we earn to buy library books which the children choose. Please pop in and have a browse.

Several parents have asked for dates of Christmas celebrations . Please check the school website calendar for dates and timings. Details regarding practicalities will be sent out nearer the time.

Just a long term date to put in your diaries! On Thursday 13 February our Year 5 children will be performing at Birmingham Town Hall along with children from Hagley Catholic High School and its feeder schools. This will be the 9th annual concert at the Town Hall and they have been absolutely fantastic in previous years and this year’s concert I am sure will be equally good.  Ticket for this concert will soon be available and then in the new year further details will be sent out regarding a coach for parents on the evening. There is no limit to the number of tickets you can buy so please encourage family and friends to attend or buy as a Christmas present!

Finally, a reminder that this Monday, 14 October, our school photographer will be in school. All children will be photographed both individually and with siblings in school. If you would like your child to have a photograph with a pre school sibling please come to the school hall from 8.30am. The children will need to wear full winter unifom for the photograph.

Please remember if you ever have any concerns regarding your child, academic, social or emotional please speak to me or any member of the teaching staff so we can work together to solve them. If you are unable to see me at school or wish to arrange a meeting please contact me via email at secretary @wulsev.worcs.sch.uk or telephone 01299 877808.

Wishing you and your families a lovely weekend.
