Dear Parents

We continue to be extremely vigilant in school regarding hygiene in light of the present Coronavirus outbreak. Visitors who enter the main entrance of school are asked to immediately wash their hands and communal areas are cleaned with anti bacterial sprays throughout the day by staff. We ask again that children have a packet of tissues in their pockets to help keep us as germ free as possible. To limit any risk of unnecessary contact we have suspended all After School Clubs- Harriers, Football, Netball and Skipping - for the coming week as our external providers are in contact with many other schools, teams and groups. We have also postponed the Year 4 trip to the Sea Life Centre in Birmingham.                  We will monitor the situation and update you next week if this is to continue. Money for trips will be reimbursed and club payments will either be reimbursed or deducted from subsequent bookings. Please bear with us in a situation that is constantly changing. Thank you for your support.

It has been another very busy week in school. At the beginning of the week two of our Year 4 children, accompanied by Mrs Freitas, attending a Prayer Leaders training session with other Worcestershire children at Blessed Edward Oldcorne High School in Worcester. They have returned with some new ideas of how they can plan and lead prayer in our school and develop a team of leaders. Every Wednesday each class worship is planned and led totally by the children and these liturgies are a joy to experience. The children’s reverence and enthusiasm brings so much to everyone involved. Our leaders will hopefully now further enhance this with their future plans.

Last Monday evening as part of our participation in the Stourport Sports Partnership, the Under 11 netball team took part in week one of the local schools netball league. We couldn’t be more proud of our team as they always show excellent sportsmanship and determination to do their best and are very worthy competitors. We hope you enjoy seeing the CTA football photographs at the end of ths letter. Many thanks to Mrs Trickett for  being team photographer!

As many of you have seen on our Facebook page, yesterday our Year 4 and Year 5 children participated in bell -boating on the canal. They experienced using their oars as a team to travel through lock system and along the canal. Although the children found it physically demanding they were also exhilarated by the experience. Our sincere gratitude to all the parents who accompanied the children, Mr Tasker, Mrs Freitas and Mrs Berry.

Thank you to all the Year 3 parents who attended our Sacramental Preparation meeting on Wednesday evening. If at any point you have any queries regarding your child’s preparation please do not hesitate to speak to Mrs Warnett. A reminder that Masses at St Wulstan’s church are 5.30pm Saturday and 10.00am on Sunday mornings. Holy Family church, Bewdley, also have Mass at 8.00 am on Sunday mornings.

Yesterday morning, Lucy from Fr Hudson’s Charity visited school to launch our annual Lenten charity appeal. The charity carries out a tremendous amount of work supporting children and their families throughout the Birmingham Diocese. Today your children have brought home their Good Shepherd Appeal box to raise money over Lent. The money raised will then be presented to the charity at the Good Shepherd Mass in Worcester in June. We are very conscious of asking for money and appreciate the generosity shown by our families. Fr Hudson’s ask that the children aim to simply put odd change, pennies or two pences into the box over the Lenten period. Over time this amounts to a sizeable amount across the school so we are very grateful for all donations. The children keep the boxes at home and can return them after the Easter holidays. Thank you.

As part of continuous self evaluation the Academy Committee and staff have been reviewing the school’s Mission statement.  Our present Mission statement is quite lengthy and too difficult for the children to understand. We have simplified the language and focused on enabling everyone to understand and know our Mission. Our present Mission statement is:

As a Catholic school, St Wulstan’s seeks to enable each child to walk in faith with Christ, loving Him and each other. With the help of our families, our parish and our local community, we will do our best to use the gifts that God has given us to make our world a richer place.

Our proposed new Mission statement is:

We learn and grow with Jesus to love, inspire and serve others

We would like now to put it out to consultation with all stakeholders- children, parents, staff, Academy Committee members and Directors. If you feel you would like to contribute to this consultation please email your comment to secretary@wulsev.worcs.sch.uk by April 20 2020. Thank you.

Wishing you a lovely weekend with your children.
