Message from Mrs Brocklesby

On Sunday, we pause to celebrate the incredible love, guidance, and kindness that mothers and mother figures bring into our lives. Whether through gentle words, unwavering support, or quiet acts of care, their presence shapes our hearts and communities in countless ways.

We give special thanks to all who nurture and inspire us every day. In a special way, we also honor Mary, our Mother, whose example of love and compassion continues to guide us.

Thank you to all the mothers and mother figures who make the world brighter with their grace and generosity.

KIND HEARTS AND A HUNGER FOR JUSTICE

Next Thursday, our Minnie Vinnies are hosting a Mother's Day Tea and Scone event from 3:30pm-4:30pm in the school hall.

Tickets must be purchased in advance on Arbor. All adults and children will require a ticket. Tickets must be presented on arrival and we ask that only one adult attends per family, so that we can accommodate as many families as possible.

The payment items, on Arbor, can be found under the 'trip' section of your home page. There is a payment item for the adult ticket and a separate one for the children's tickets.  If you require a login reminder for your Arbor account, please contact Mrs Brown in the school office.

A Special Moment for Our Pupils
Tomorrow at 10:00 AM, several of our Year 3 and Year 6 pupils will celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation at Church. Let us keep them in our prayers as they take this meaningful step in their faith journey, and offer them our support and encouragement on this special day.

Attendance Matters!

FORMING CHRIST CENTERED PILGRIMS OF HOPE

We are inviting parents and carers to take part in a short attendance survey. Your views are really important to us, as they will help us better understand any challenges families may face with school attendance and how we can best support children to attend regularly. The survey will only take a few minutes to complete, and your feedback will help us improve the support we offer to pupils and families.

Please click on the link below to access the survey on Microsoft Forms.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.

QUESTIONING MINDS

Message from Mrs Warnett

Reception

This week in Reception, the children have been busy exploring lots of exciting learning opportunities. In Maths, they have been learning about doubles and practising how to recognise and represent them in different ways. In English, the children have been enjoying the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears, using the text to support their speaking, listening, and early writing activities. During Forest School, the children created their own picture frames by tying string to sticks and then used natural materials they found around them to make beautiful pieces of natural art. In RE, the class explored the idea that everyone has special talents given by God and discussed how they can use these talents to help others. The highlight of the week was attending the Out of This World Music Festival on Thursday, where the children had a fantastic time singing, dancing, and playing along to the music.

Year 1 and 2

Year 1 and 2 have enjoyed an exciting science lesson this week. They worked in groups to investigate and sort materials by their properties. It was lovely to hear their discussions and finding out what great prior knowledge they had. Well done! It computing, the class have moved on to spreadsheets, starting to create their own. The children were enthused by this new challenge and felt they were doing 'proper grown up work like my mum does!'. In DT, the children used their knowledge of healthy eating to create balanced and unbalanced food plates. The children were keen to tell us how much they like broccoli! In RE, the class read The Parable of the Lost Sheep and planned their own versions of the story. The children have also been busy created some beautiful surprises for their mothers for Sunday. They can't wait to share them! Happy Mothers' Day to all the mums!

Year 3 and 4

The children have worked tirelessly this week to complete their end of term tests and should be very proud of their efforts. In computing this week, the children programmed mirco:bits as night lights. They were tasked with entering code that allowed their micro:bits to sense changes in light levels and then display LED lights once it dipped below certain levels. In PE, the children have been working on developing their passing in tag rugby and hockey. Developing technique and communication skills allows the children to be more effective teammates and invade the opposition's space more effectively. In geography, the children were tasked in researching the climate, seasonal weather patterns, temperature changes and daylight changes in the Scandinavian countries of Denmark, Sweden and Norway. They will use this information to compare it to Italy and the United Kingdom over the same seasons, giving them a greater understanding of the similarities and differences between countries in Europe. The children celebrated Mass this morning with Father Richard. The Gospel spoke about having trust in God to provide us with all that we need and this was an appropriate message to hear with several children receiving their First Reconciliation tomorrow. We hold those children in our thoughts and prayers this weekend.

Year 5

This week, Year 5 have worked incredibly hard during Assessment Week. Every child gave 100% effort and they should be very proud of the determination and resilience they showed throughout the week. Alongside their assessments, the children continued developing their leadership skills with Miss Gillum and enjoyed an exciting Forest School session with Mr Tasker, where they worked together to build shelters. In Art, Year 5 explored different textures and materials while creating their own collagraph printing plates, experimenting carefully with a range of shapes and surfaces. Next week, the children will be using their plates to begin printing their backgrounds and seeing their creative designs come to life. Well done, Year 5, for another fantastic week of hard work and enthusiasm!

Year 6

This week, Year 6 have been working extremely hard during assessment week. They have really shown how much progress they have made, not only in their work but also in their attitude towards their own learning. They demonstrated great determination, focus and perseverance throughout the week, and they should all be very proud of themselves.

In Maths, the children have been working hard to develop their understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages. They have shown great effort when tackling some challenging concepts and have approached their learning with increasing confidence.

In Science, the children really impressed Miss McGowan by thinking like scientists when explaining their reasoning. They have been learning about the criteria needed in order to classify something as a living thing. The class will continue their work on classification in future lessons.

The children have also been working hard on their Confirmation preparation. This week, they wrote about their own lives as followers of Jesus and reflected on their personal journey of faith so far.

To end the week, the children enjoyed a lovely yoga session – a wonderful opportunity to relax and de-stress after such a busy week.

Well done, Year 6!
