Dear Parents

A massive thank you for all your very generous donations of jam jars and chocolate for the Christmas Fayre. The children have clearly enjoyed wearing their own choice of clothes today and there has been a lovely atmosphere throughout the school as they collect all the contributions ready for the Fayre. These are always very popular stalls with the children! The equally popular stall (more with the adults!) is the teacher’s ‘Bottle Stall’. We would be grateful for donations of full bottles next week. An award of extra playtime for the class who contributes the most bottles! Thank you! We are very much aware that we rely heavily on your generosity and understand Christmas is a great expense for everyone. The money you have raised has increased rapidly and Phase 2 of the play area can hopefully be created early in the new year now.

The PTA have already put a considerable amount of work into the Christmas Fayre on Thursday 28 November to ensure that it is a lovely family evening. If you feel you could offer help, before or during the night please contact a member of the committee or any member of staff. All help is gratefully received. The Fayre will open at 6.00pm and as well as many Christmas stalls, food and drink we will also have a varied programme of entertainment throughout the evening.

Thank you to all those parents and friends who supported our Year 2 Mass this morning. We were so impressed by the children’s reverence as well as their fluent, confident reading. Well done Year 2, Please make a note of your child’s Class Mass and we look forward to seeing you there and please stay for a cup of tea afterwards.

A reminder that this Sunday is our school Mass at church at 10.00am .It would be lovely to see as many children as possible at this Mass as our children lead the singing. We look forward to seeing many families, Catholic and non Catholic, as we celebrate our faith together.

Sporting news, this morning the children who qualified from the recent cross country trials took part in the Key Stage 2 Cross Country Competition at the Memorial Park, Stourport. Over 28 schools entered their qualified competitors, with over 400 children competing in the four races. Our children competed in a respectful and sportsmanlike manner, challenging themselves against the best runners from the local area. Whether it was running with a friend or having the determination and drive to run it alone, the children ran with enthusiasm and resilience in what was an excellent promotion of sport within the local community. Well done children!

Next Friday we have an exciting venture planned when 'Jump Rope UK' come into school. All of the children will participate in workshops to learn new fitness and skipping skills and techniques. The children will develop skills using single ropes, longer ropes for group participation and double dutch ropes. It promises to be a fun filled active day which will provide the children with skills to build on fiurther throughout the year. The children can buy their own ropes if uou wish but there is absolutely no obligation to do so. (Details can be found on the school door window). School will have a full set of ropes for the children to use both in lessons or at playtimes. We are looking forward to an exciting day!

The Scholastic’ Half price’ book fair arrives on Monday and will be open before and after school from Monday afternoon. This is a good Christmas shopping opportunity as the books are popular and genuinely half price. A further bonus is the commission we earn to buy library books which the children choose. Please pop in and have a browse.

This week our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes were collected. We were delighted to hand over 30 boxes which the children had donated. Many thanks to everyone who has contributed. We know these boxes will bring great joy and love to children who have so little. Thank you

There was great excitement in school this week as the School Council children started work on decorating our St Wulstan’s ‘trolley’ float which will lead our school in the ‘Three King’s Parade’ next Friday evening. It is hard to believe that this began life as a shopping trolley! With evergreen, lights, candles and vast amounts of imagination and enthusiasm it was transformed into a glorious work of art representing the start of the Advent season. Please come and join us to walk through Stourport and watch as the town’s Christmas lights are turned on. All the staff will be there but children must be accompanied by an adult. This is a lovely traditional community event for all ages. We will be meeting at 6. 15pm outside the Civic Hall carpark and would love to see you there.

Advent and Christmas preparations are now under way and the sound of carol singing will soon resound through the school!  Just so you can put dates and times in your diaries, the Reception and KS1 Nativity play will be performed on Tuesday 10 December at 2.00 pm and again that evening at 6.30pm. The performances will last approximately 35 minutes. Costumes need to be in school by Friday 7 December at the latest. Could the children please return to school at 6.00pm on the evening of the 10 December for the performance to start at 6.30pm.

The KS2 Christmas Service will take place on Wednesday 11 December at 6.30pm at St Wulstan’s Church. The children will need to wear full winter uniform and be dropped off at the church between 6.00 and 6.10 pm. The staff will then take responsibility for the children so that you can take your place in the church. On Tuesday 10 December Years 3,4,5 and 6 will walk down to church to practice. We will return to school for the end of the school day at 3.30pm.

A reminder that we have launched our new St Wulstan's Facebook page. There will be frequent postings sharing and celebrating the many activities that go on within the school day and beyond. We hope you enjoy seeing these postings as much as your children are enjoying their learning and experiences. To visit the page go to https://m.facebook.com/stwulstanscatholicprimary
