18 October 2019

Dear Parents

Our next ever popular PTA children’s cake sale will restart this term. The first will be held this Tuesday 22 October. This term, letters will be sent out requesting donations from Year 6. Thank you in advance. If you would like your child to buy a cake please send them with 30p on Tuesday morning.

On Thursday 24 October the day before we break up for the half term holiday the PTA are holding a Disco for all children from 6.00 – 7.30pm priced at £2 per child or £5 for a family of 3 or more. The children are invited to dress up, look out for posters in the playground for more details. As always, parents of younger children are very welcome to stay. Can I just remind parents that only children who are pupils of our school are able to attend these events. Thank you.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Harvest celebration this week and your generous donations of food. The remaining tinned and packet goods will be donated to the local food bank. We are very impressed with the children’s kindness and thoughtfulness appreciating that the £1 they spent will impact on another child’s life. Thank you for your generosity as we raised £177.80 in total which will go towards CAFOD and Fr Sunny Trust. The remaining tinned and packet goods will be donated to the local food bank.

Can I remind the parents of Year 6 children that applications for high school must be made by 31 October. If applying to Hagley Catholic High school a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate must sent along with your application. Any queries please contact the school office .

It has been a very exciting and rewarding week for Chloe in Year 5 . On Tuesday evening she attended West Mercia Police Young Good Citizen Award ceremony for 2019. Chloe received her award for her work on litter clearing and protection of the environment. Then on Wednesday Chloe was invited today to a formal presentation at the Palace of Westminster  where she received a British Citizen Youth Award for her positive litter picking effort in her community and for Chloe being a positive role model in her community of Wyre Forest District for all her volunteer work with The Junior Pickup Artists. The purpose of the BCyA programme is to recognise individuals that are making a positive contribution to their community, society or chosen cause, in the hope that it encourages them to continue and others to emulate their good deeds. It is important to the BCyA that young people are recognised as widely as possible for the good that they do, to help change perceptions of young people often portrayed negatively in the media.  They come from all over the country to be honoured at the Palace of Westminster. We are extremely proud of Chloe, well done.

Please let us know if your child has successes or interests outside of school that we can share and celebrate. We are always very interested to hear and celebrate with you as their families.

Well done to all our enthusiastic footballers who over the last four Wednesdays have competed in the Stourport Schools Partnership league. Our teams from Year 4, 5 and 6 have participated competitively and with great sportsmanship, both admirable qualities. Thank you to Mr Tasker and  to the many parents who have attended and supported the children. This afternoon some Year 4 and Year 6 children participated in the Wyre Forest Schools Sports Partnership Tag rugby competition at Stourport rugby club. The children were a credit to their school showing great teamwork and tactical understanding finishing in fifth and third place respectively. Well done children!

Parents Evening will be held onTuesday 5  November 4.00-7.00pm and Wednesday 6 November 5.00 - 7.00pm. If you have not already done so please sign up for an appointment via the school life app. Please also check the school website for updated calendar dates.

After half term all children will all need to wear full winter uniform. This consists of white shirt and tie and trousers for the boys( Red polo shirts are only for summer). The girls winter uniform is white blouse and tie and grey skirt or pinafore. Can I just remind parents that culottes or trousers are not part of our girls uniform and should not be worn.  I know many parents will take their children for haircuts over the half term break. Again we remind you that extreme haircuts are not allowed. Several parents have asked what is the permitted cut and we request a Grade 3 is the shortest. Several children have had extreme haircuts recently and once grown out we request that you adhere to our uniform policy. Thank you for your support and to the many parents who double check with me before taking their child to the hairdressers.

On Wednesday 23 October we are holding our second Sacramental preparation meeting for Catholic parents of Year 3 and Year 6 children. The meetings will take place in the Year 3 and Year 5 classrooms . It is essential that at least one parent attends these important meetings. We look forward to seeing you then.

Next Friday we break up for half term and I am sure the children will be looking forward to their week's holiday. Friday is also a significant day as we say goodbye to Mrs Jones and Mrs Smith. Mrs Smith is leaving us to take up a new post and career change and on behalf of all the children , staff and Academy Committee, I would like to thank her for the time and work she has put into the education and care of many children over the last few years. Mrs Jones is retiring after many years at St Wulstan's and hopefully she and her husband will enjoy some travelling and also precious time with their two daughters. I have worked with Mrs Jones for many ,many years and our youngest daughters were in the same class, so we are mums as well. She has done so much to not only support our children's learning but to also support them emotionally. She is always there with a motherly concern and the ability to say just what is needed to lift a child's mood. Her cheerfulness and positivity is infectious! She will be greatly missed by us all. Thank you both.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend with your families.
