FORMING CHRIST CENTERED PILGRIMS OF HOPE

With the arrival of spring and brighter weather, our Key Stage 2 pupils and staff took part in an exciting bell boating experience in Stourport, led by Andy Train.

March in Stourport can only mean one thing, bell boating! We are, as always, very grateful to Andy for providing such an enjoyable and well-organised activity. We were especially fortunate to have beautiful weather for the sessions this year.

The activities are carefully designed to build teamwork, confidence and resilience. Pupils worked together to navigate turns, bends in the canal and passing boat traffic, listening attentively to Andy’s technical guidance and applying it with great enthusiasm. Please visit our Facebook page to see pictures and videos.

We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to our parent helpers for their support throughout the day. We look forward to welcoming many of you again for the summer regatta on the River Severn.

KIND HEARTS AND A HUNGER FOR JUSTICE

Thank you for attending our Mother’s Day afternoon tea. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the tea and scones, so beautifully served by our fantastic Minnie Vinnie.

The lovely atmosphere, along with the flowers on the tables, made the occasion extra special. A big thank you to Mrs Brown and the Minnie Vinnie team for helping create such a memorable afternoon.

Reception

Reception have had another busy and productive week. In maths, the children have been developing their problem-solving skills by finding missing parts of a given number. They have also continued to make great progress in phonics and English, showing increasing confidence in their learning. In science, the have been building on their understanding of life cycles, demonstrating curiosity and engagement during lessons. In PE, the children have been developing their movement skills, focusing on galloping and changing direction with control. The class have also enjoyed plenty of time outdoors this week, making the most of opportunities to explore and learn through play.

KS1

Year 1 and 2 have been enjoying lots of practical lessons this week. In DT, the children have been learning different techniques for food preparation, learning spreading, snipping, cutting and grating. The children listened carefully to safety instructions and food hygiene rules and worked hard to perfect their techniques. They especially enjoyed sampling the food at the end! In science, the class have been investigating materials to find out which ones are waterproof. They made sensible predictions, using their own life experiences to justify them. They then followed instructions for fair testing to see if their predictions were correct, recording their results with care. In English, the class have been reading 'Little Red Train to the Rescue' and working on using the conjunctions 'and' and 'or' in their writing. In maths, the children have finished their unit of work on length and height and have worked hard to ensure that the vocabulary they use to describe these is precise and accurate. The children have greatly developed their understanding of units of measurement and can say when they might use cm or m for different requirements. The children celebrated Mass on Friday morning and impressed everyone there with their beautiful reading and concentration. Well done, everyone!

Year 3 and Year 4

What an exciting week the children have had this week. On Monday, the children used their micro:bits and coding knowledge to play 'Rock, Paper, Scissors' against other micro:bits and themselves. They tracked how many times they were able to beat the other micro:bits compared to other children in the class and were surprised with the results. On Tuesday, the children started their bellboating journey at school. The children were confident, hardworking and enthusiastic while making their way down the canal system. In their D&T lesson this week, the children followed a basic shortbread recipe and made some adaptions to their own liking. They then created a marketing package and chose a target audience to try and encourage to buy their product. In science, the children compared the teeth of different animals and had to decide whether they belonged to carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. The children then researched different animals from each group and looked at what food they ate. Finally in their geography lessons this week, the children researched geographical features of Scandinavia and familiarised themselves with glaciers, fjords, lakes and waterfalls. Keep up the great work!

Year 5

This week, Year 5 have had a very busy and exciting time. On Tuesday, the children took part in bell boating, where they enjoyed the beautiful sunshine and showed fantastic teamwork while preparing for the upcoming regatta. In Maths, the children have been focusing on Fractions (Unit B), developing their understanding of finding fractions of an amount and working backwards to find the whole. Back in the classroom, the children have begun their non-chronological reports on Earth and Space, thinking carefully like real authors about how to present engaging and informative content for their readers. In Art, Year 5 have been creating collagraph prints for their final pieces, exploring their ideas about what the world might look like in 50 years’ time—there have been some incredibly imaginative and thought-provoking designs. Please note that there will be no spellings or homework set this week; these will be sent out next week in preparation for the Easter holidays.

Well done Year 5!

Year 6

This week in Year 6, the children have been working hard on their grammar, focusing on the use of the passive voice, using colons to add extra detail, and incorporating brackets and dashes effectively in their writing. Next week, the children will continue developing these skills as they begin writing their WWII non-chronological reports.

In Science, the children have continued their work on grouping and classifying. This week, they looked closely at how animals can be grouped and classified based on their features. They used scientific vocabulary brilliantly to do this!

In Maths, the children have finished their unit on fractions, decimals and percentages, and will now be moving on to learning about area, perimeter and volume. Keep practising those times tables Year 6, these will come in handy!

In PE, the children developed their leadership skills and have continued their excellent work in yoga – always a lovely way to end the week!

This week, the children were also introduced to a new online learning platform called CENTURY. This is now where homework will be set as well as some time in school which will support children’s learning and progress. Please look out for a letter with more information.

At the start of the week, the children also had an excellent trip out bell boating. Year 6 worked incredibly well and were amazing role models to the younger children. The Minnie Vinnies were also incredible this week supporting the Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea. Thank you for all of your help and hard work!

A really successful week, Year 6—well done!
