A huge thank you to Barbara Teale, who has kindly made three beautiful head garlands for our three statues of Our Lady in school.
Message from Mrs Brocklesby
Bikeability has provided a fantastic opportunity for the children to build their confidence, independence and understanding of road safety in a fun and practical way. It has been wonderful to see the pupils developing these important life skills and enjoying the experience throughout the week.
KIND HEARTS AND A HUNGER FOR JUSTICE
Message from Mrs Warnett
Reception
It has been another action-packed week for the Reception children. In Maths, they have been exploring numbers beyond 10 and have been working hard to practise their counting to 20. In English, the children have been using the story to help them order words and build simple sentences. In Science, they have been investigating floating and sinking through a range of practical activities. During Forest School, the children enjoyed using clay to design and create their own imaginative models. They have also continued to work hard in Phonics and are developing good reading skills. The children have worked incredibly hard this half term, and we wish them a restful and enjoyable week off.
KS1
Year 3 and 4
The children have been superstars again this week and should be very proud of their efforts once again. In maths, the children have complete their unit on 'decimals' this week, having to partition, compare, order, round and divide decimals by 10 and 100. They have also been working really hard to learn their times table facts, particularly the Year 4 children who only have a few weeks left before their Times Table Test. The children researched animal habits in their science lessons this week and developed scientific vocabulary to describe their characteristics. They also had many questions regarding some of the natural changes and human impact on these habitats. Yesterday, the children did amazingly well completed their Level 1 in Bikeability Week. The instructors were impressed with their resilience, confidence and awareness of the importance of safety. They are all now looking forward to completing their Level 2 next year. Finally, this morning we celebrated 'Pentecost' in our class Mass. Father Richard explained the importance of the Holy Spirit and how it can support us through life's challenges, with the children reading and responding beautifully. We hope you all have a safe and relaxing half term break!
Year 5
Year 5 have had a very busy and exciting week with Bikeability running from Monday through to Thursday. The children had such a wonderful time developing their cycling skills and learning important road safety tips. Thank you to our fantastic instructors for taking the children out, come rain or shine! Alongside our busy week with Bikeability, Year 5 have also continued their learning in Maths, focusing on area and perimeter. This week, the children explored how to find the area of compound shapes. Although this was a tricky concept to grasp, the children showed fantastic resilience and resourcefulness throughout their learning.
In English, Year 5 have continued working on their book study of A Tadpole’s Promise, using their writing skills to begin their own retell of the story. This week, the children focused on using figurative and emotive language, as well as speech to advance the action in their writing. Well done, Year 5! In Science, the children learnt about mammals, their life cycles, and the different types of mammals including monotremes, marsupials and placentals. In RE, the children continued exploring the joyful season of Easter, learning about Jesus’ journey to Bethany after His resurrection. In Art, the children explored monoprinting to create unique and abstract prints inspired by their house designs. A very productive and busy week in Year 5 well done!
Year 6
This week has been another busy and successful one as we reached the end of a fantastic half term. Year 6 should be incredibly proud of all they have already achieved this year and all they still have to look forward to during their final half term with us.
A huge well done to the children who helped Mr Tasker during our Walk to School Week. You have been fabulous ambassadors for the school and excellent role models throughout the week – thank you for your enthusiasm and support!
Year 6 also had the opportunity to visit the Year 1/2 Art Gallery and were extremely impressed by the wonderful work on display. The Year 6 children were so kind and patient during the visit, asking thoughtful questions and giving such lovely feedback to the younger children. It was wonderful to see such positive interactions across the year groups.
The children then ended the week with auditions for our upcoming production. Miss McGowan and I were both so impressed by the talented actors and singers we saw and heard. The standard was incredibly high, which certainly made casting a very difficult task! However, we are confident that we have selected a fantastic cast and are looking forward to putting on a brilliant and memorable show.
After half term, Year 6 have so much to look forward to, including Harriers Health Kick, Forest School sessions, our production rehearsals and, of course, our residential trip!
We hope you all have a restful and enjoyable half term break and return refreshed, ready to give it your all for the final few weeks of the year!
