Message From Mrs Bury and Mrs Warnett

What a wonderful first half term we have had! It has been lovely to see the children settle so well into school life, working hard, enjoying new experiences and demonstrating our school values each day. There has been so much to celebrate, and I would like to thank our children, staff and families for making it such a positive start to the school year.

A special thank you to everyone who supported our Harvest Sale and Macmillan Coffee Afternoon. We are incredibly grateful for your generosity and kindness. Thank you also to the members of Stourport and Bewdley SVP for their wonderful support at this event. Our Mini Vinnies were absolutely fantastic, helping to serve refreshments with such enthusiasm, confidence and lovely manners. We are very proud of them!

It has also been really encouraging to see some significant improvements in attendance across the school this half term. Thank you to all our families for your continued support in ensuring children are in school every day and on time. As a gentle reminder, holidays and other absences during term time will not be authorised unless there are exceptional circumstances. Every school day matters, and regular attendance makes such a difference to children's learning, friendships and wellbeing.

As we head into the half-term break, I hope you all enjoy some well-deserved family time and an opportunity to rest and recharge. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 2nd November, ready for another exciting and busy half term.

Thank you, as always, for your continued kindness, encouragement and support. Wishing you all a happy, safe and restful half term!

Autumn Fair

What a fantastic success our Autumn Fair was! It was wonderful to see so many families coming together to enjoy the event and support our school community. A huge thank you to everyone who attended, contributed and helped make the fair such a lovely occasion.

A very special thank you must go to our wonderful St Wulstan's Community and PTA, who worked incredibly hard behind the scenes to organise such a successful event. We are so grateful for the time, energy and enthusiasm they give to our school. Events like this simply wouldn't be possible without their dedication and support.

Thank you once again to everyone involved – what a brilliant example of our school community coming together!

Weekly Round Up

Reception and Year 1

Reception and Year 1 have had another busy and exciting week to finish their first half term! In English, the children have enjoyed exploring The Gruffalo, whilst in Maths, Year 1 have been developing their subtraction skills and Reception have been learning how to compare groups of objects. In History, the children finally discovered what happened to Guy Fawkes and whether the Gunpowder Plot was successful! In Science, they have been exploring seasonal changes, looking at how the world around them changes as autumn turns into winter. The children also enjoyed a crafty and spooky Forest School session to end the half term!

The children have worked incredibly hard over the past eight weeks and have settled into their new routines beautifully. They have shown such enthusiasm, kindness and determination in everything they have done. Every single child should feel very proud of what they have achieved so far. They are a real credit to their families and the school, and they thoroughly deserve a lovely, restful half-term break. Well done, Reception and Year 1!

Year 2 and 3

Year 2 and 3 have enjoyed a sweet and spooky tale this week: I'm Not Scary! by Raahat Kaduji. The children learnt about friendship and why we shouldn't make assumptions about others who are different from ourselves. Year 2 worked on using conjunctions in their writing, such as 'and', 'that' and 'because' whilst the Year 3 children started learning how to use speech in their stories and punctuate it correctly. We also enjoyed sharing our wonderful writing by sending postcards to our friends and family during our 'Postcards and Pastries' family workshop session. We have been so impressed with the children's progress in writing this half term and know that those who have already received postcards feel the same!

In science, the children continued to learn about habitats, creating a food chain for the Arctic to discover how different living things depend on each other in a habitat. We finished off the half term by celebrating our Harvest Festival. The children sang beautifully and enjoyed buying some delicious produce to take home. Thank you so much to our families for their kind donations to support the local food bank.

Well done children on a super half term! We look forward to sharing some exciting news about our Christmas celebrations when you come back after half term!

Year 4 and 5

The children have had an excellent end to a busy half term. This week, the children learnt how to make and cook bread at Forest School. They had an interesting experience with sticky dough, but wrapped their dough around their sticks effectively and filled their bread with some delicious jam! In science, the children were exploring different processes that separate materials. In their next lesson, the children will investigate these processes and which ones are best for for sorting certain materials. In design and technology, the children completed their pop-up Jack and Jill books by using a 'step' to make Jack pop off the page. The children will now share their books with Reception and Year 1, who have been creating their own story books.

The children have had an excellent start to the year and deserve a restful half term. They can look forward to Bikeability, hockey and cross country in Autumn 2.

Year 6

Year 6 have had a fantastic end to a very busy half term! This week, the children have taken their first steps in long multiplication and have done an amazing job. In RE, they explored how metaphors in the Bible help us develop a deeper understanding of God's message. In Geography, they investigated how land use in the Black Country changed before, during and after the Industrial Revolution, with some areas coming full circle. In English, the children produced excellent retells based on Jim from Street Child buying a shilling pie which really showed off their developing vocabulary and author's voice.

Year 6 also helped to lead our Harvest Mass today. They read beautifully and were wonderful role models for the younger children. Thank you and well done!

Well done on a fabulous half term, Year 6! Have a well-earned rest and come back ready for another brilliant half term. Parents, please look out for a letter after the holiday explaining how you can further support your child with SATs preparation. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
