As a Catholic school, St Wulstan's seeks to enable each child to walk in faith with Christ, loving Him and each other. With the help of our families, our parish and our local community, we will do our best to use the gifts that God has given us to make our world a richer place.

Dear Parents

Welcome to our first newsletter published on our School Life App!

Last week every family will have received a letter giving guidance of how to log on to our new school app. As the letter explains, this will give you access to the school website on your phone or tablet and also important notifications from school. This is a more effective way to send messages to parents so replaces our previous text messaging service. On a Friday the weekly newsletter will be uploaded and a notification sent. Please let us know if you have any problems logging on as it is crucial that we can contact every parent using this messaging service. Lunch menus will still be distributed on a Friday for completion. We are hoping to simplify the ordering and payment of school lunches in the near future and further information will be sent out soon. However in the meantime please continue with our usual lunch ordering system.

Preparations have started for our KS1 Nativity and KS2 Advent Service. Please note times and dates on the next page. This is always a wonderful time of the year and we look forward to enjoying the children displaying and sharing their talents. There will be no need for tickets for either the Nativity at school or the Advent service at St Wulstan's Church and letters will be sent nearer the time regarding arrival times etc.

Thank you to everyone who has donated a full shoebox for Operation Christmas Child. The boxes are being collected next Tuesday 28 November so if you would still like to contribute a box we are accepting them in the school entrance until Tuesday morning. Thank you.

On Thursday 15 February our Year 5 children will be performing at Birmingham Town Hall along with children from Hagley Catholic High School and its feeder schools. This will be the 6th annual concert at the Town Hall and they have been absolutely fantastic in previous years and this year's concert I am sure will be equally good. Ticket for this concert will soon be available and then in the new year further details will be sent out regarding a coach for parents on the evening. There is no limit to the number of tickets you can buy so please encourage family and friends to attend.

Thank you to the Year 3 parents who attended the meeting on preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. It is essential that at least one parent attends the course of meetings prepared by Mrs Edwards and Fr Richard as they will help you to support your child. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Edwards who is running the programme this year.

Many thanks to everyone who supported our Book Fair this week. It was a great success and very well supported. We do receive commission on books sold which is then used to purchase books for class and school library. Mrs Tasker is already ordering new books for the library. Thank you.

Christmas Fayre 2017

You may have noticed signs in the playground for the 'Bauble competition'. For £1 the children can purchase a plain bauble before or after school from members of the PTA. The children can then decorate it at home and return it to school for entry into the competition. There will be a prize for each class to the 'Best decorated bauble'. Remembering last year's entrants I am sure it will be a difficult competition to judge as they were wonderful! All the baubles will be kept in school until the end of term and then returned home with your child.

Thank you for all your generous donations of jam jars and chocolate for the Christmas Fayre. These are always very popular stalls with the children. The equally popular stall (more with the adults!) is the teacher's 'Bottle Stall'. We would be grateful for donations of full bottles next week. An award of extra playtime for the class who contributes the most bottles! Thank you! I am very aware that we rely heavily on your generosity and understand Christmas is a great expense for everyone. The money you have raised is increasing rapidly and Phase 2 of the play area can be created in the not too distant future.

The PTA have already put a considerable amount of work into the Christmas Fayre (30 November) to ensure that it is a lovely family evening. If you feel you could offer help, before or during the night please contact a member of the committee or any member of staff. All help is gratefully received.

Wishing you a lovely weekend with your families.
