FORMING CHRIST CENTERED PILGRIMS OF HOPE
Throughout the season of Lent, the children have been thoughtfully preparing for the celebration of Easter. This special time in the Church’s year has given them the opportunity to reflect, pray, and grow in their faith.
As part of their journey, the children took part in meaningful Masses, coming together as classes in prayer and reflection. They have also participated in the Stations of the Cross, where they reverently followed the journey of Jesus, helping them to deepen their understanding of Holy Week.
We are very proud of the children for the respect and thoughtfulness they have shown during these experiences. Their participation has helped them to appreciate the true meaning of Easter and to prepare their hearts for this important celebration.
As we enter Holy Week, we invite all parents and carers to support their children as they continue their journey of faith. This is a very special and reflective time in the Church’s year, and your encouragement at home can make a meaningful difference.
You may wish to take time to talk with your child about the events of Holy Week, join in prayer together, attend Mass as a family. These shared experiences help children to deepen their understanding and appreciation of the true meaning of Easter.
Thank you for your continued support in nurturing the children’s spiritual growth.
KIND HEARTS AND A HUNGER FOR JUSTICE
Decorate the Egg Competition!
We were blown away by all the lovely entries this year, especially from Years 5 and 6 – it made choosing the winners incredibly difficult! Every egg showed creativity, effort, and lots of Easter spirit.
Winners:
A special mention to Heidi from Year 6, who correctly guessed the number of eggs – 135!
And our raffle winner was Jack Price in Year 1 – congratulations!
Thank you to everyone who took part – the standard was amazing, and every egg was a little masterpiece!

Reception
Reception have enjoyed another exciting and enriching week. On Monday, the children took part in a Bikability session, where they developed their confidence and skills in bike riding. They had a wonderful time and showed great enthusiasm throughout. Despite the chilly weather, Wednesday’s Forest School session was full of creativity. The children worked collaboratively to create their own paintbrushes and natural paints, using these to produce a beautiful piece of artwork together. This week, Reception have also been learning about Holy Week. They particularly enjoyed acting out key events, which helped them to imagine themselves in these roles and think carefully about how the people involved may have felt. We also say goodbye to Miss Phillpots, the student teacher who has been with us over the last half term. She has been a wonderful addition to the classroom, and we wish her the very best of luck as she continues her teacher training journey. We are so proud of how hard the children have worked this term. They have grown in both confidence and ability, and we wish them all a restful Easter.
KS1
Year 1 and 2 have had a busy and exciting final week of term. The Year 1s had a lovely time doing Balanceability and wowed the instructors with the super progress that they made during their sessions. Well done! Year 2 have also been making wonderful progress in swimming and are proud of their achievements so far. Some are learning different strokes and some are able to put their face into the water more often to perform strokes more easily. Well done, everyone! In science, the class have been sorting different materials, choosing their own criteria to sort. The children are so confident using more challenging scientific vocabulary and could debate their thoughts in a group, making sure that they took it in turns to listen and responded politely and positively, even if they did not agree. This is so grown up and a pleasure to witness. In English, the class have been enjoying reading and sharing riddles with each other. The class then used their own ideas to plan their own fruit riddles. We had great fun trying to guess the right answers and loved the original ideas the children have to create so many different poems. The class have enjoyed making Easter cards this week, trying hard to develop their shading skills, including shading in one direction to create an effect. The class finished the week with an exciting Easter egg hunt and were thrilled to find one hidden by the older children! We said goodbye this week to Miss McComb, our wonderful student teacher and wish her lots of luck in her next school placement. We also said farewell to Mrs Phillips, who has been working with the class on Tuesdays this term. We wish her lots of luck in her next steps and look forward to seeing her in our school community still. Have a lovely holiday and a well-deserved rest, KS1!
Year 3 / Year 4
Year 3 and Year 4 have worked incredibly hard this term and should be very proud of themselves. This week, the children have been sequencing the events of Holy Week and looked closely at Palm Sunday and the Last Supper. They had some very insightful comments to make about people's feelings and emotions during this turbulent week. In maths, the children started their unit on 'Mass and Capacity'. They have started looking at measuring mass using grams and kilograms, comparing and converting between measurements. The children really enjoyed their computing lessons this week and programmed their micro:bits to become dice. The children then used their micro:bits to play games instead of rolling traditional dice. In PE, the children concluded their hockey and tag rugby units. They have shown a development of key skills but also improved on their awareness of tactics and teamwork. In geography, the children looked at some key geographical elements of Scandinavia and compared it to Stourport and the Midlands. They were asked to collect information about physical features, natural resources, trade and human geography, making some interesting comparisons in the process. A huge 'Well done' to the children for their consistency and efforts during this term and have a lovely, well-earned Easter break!
Year 5
The children have worked so hard this term and should be extremely proud of all the progress they are making. This week has been a particularly busy and successful one!
In English, the children have written amazing non-chronological reports about World War II. They have also been thinking carefully about what they need to include to become a Year 6 “Clever Writer,” showing great maturity and attention to detail in their work.
In RE, the children have worked very hard learning about the events of Holy Week. They have explored Jesus’ thoughts and prayers in the Garden of Gethsemane, created playscripts to demonstrate Peter’s denial of Jesus, and studied the words of Jesus on the cross. They thoughtfully considered the meaning of these words and compared how they are presented in the four Gospel accounts. To deepen their understanding, the children also reflected on why the death of Jesus is described as a sacrifice, studying scripture from Ephesians and Hebrews to explore this idea further.
To end the term on a joyful note, Year 6 took a trip down memory lane by making Easter baskets and taking part in a fun egg hunt!
Miss McGowan would like to remind the children how proud she is of all the hard work they have shown since the start of Year 6. There is a busy summer term ahead, but they have shown they are more than ready for the challenge.
Just a reminder that, alongside relaxing and having fun over Easter, the children have access to Century, TTRS, and Spelling Frame to help to continue to boost their learning and confidence.
Well done, Year 6 – have a wonderful Easter!
Tempest Photography will be visiting school on Monday 13 April (first day back after the Easter hols) to take class photographs.
