Dear Parents

I hope you have all had a good and relaxing weekend and have enjoyed some of the lovely weather before the return of rain this week! This term will be a busy one with many of our children involved in statutory testing (SATs), Year 3 receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion, various sporting events, our end of year play etc! We also have a number of information evenings planned including Induction evening for new parents, information for parents in our current Years 4 and 5 to talk about the residential trips to Manor Adventure and Alton Castle planned for September. Also on Tuesday 8 May at 6.30pm we will be holding a meeting at church for the parents of children in Year 3 who will be receiving the Sacrament of First Holy Communion in June. It is important at least one parent attends these meeting.

On Tuesday 1 May our Year 6 children are invited to join children from other Worcestershire Catholic schools to celebrate the Good Shepherd Mass at St George's Catholic Church in Worcester (parents of Year 6 children will receive a separate letter). The children will present a cheque to Fr Hudson's from their Lenten donation boxes. If you still have your collection box at home please send it in on Monday. Thank you to everyone who has sent a donation already.

Well done to the children in Year 5 who celebrated their class Mass this morning. It was a lovely Mass and an opportunity to welcome parents and parishioners to join us.

Yesterday we said a very sad goodbye to our little ducklings who have now gone to live in a beautiful duck pond in the countryside. They had grown and blossomed so much over the last week it was time for the next stage of their lives. Well done to the children of Year 1 who took such great care of them ensuring that the early days of their lives were so safe and happy.

Congratulations to Frances Ginns in Year 4 who recently passed her G2 piano exam. Not only did Frances pass but she achieved 100% in every section. This is an extremely rare occurrence in a music exam and a great achievement. Well done Frances!

Last Thursday Year 3 had a great day of learning at Chedworth Roman Villa. This week it was the turn of Year 5 and Year 4 to enjoy their learning outside of school.

Year 5 were very excited to participate in a Tag Rugby tournament organised by West Mercia Police. During the Spring Term they received three coaching sessions from PCSO Simon in preparation for this tournament as well as practising skills during their games lessons. On Wednesday morning they travelled to the Kidderminster Carolians ground to take part. There were 24 other schools from the Wyre Forest area. The children enjoyed playing eight games, four in the morning and four in the afternoon, against a variety of different schools. Everyone played exceptionally well, worked well as a team and showed excellent sportsmanship. A wonderful day was had by all.

As part of this term's exciting new topic 'Blue Abyss', the Year 4 children visited the Sea Life Centre in Birmingham, exploring the weird and wonderful world of the deep. The children observed and asked questions about the behaviour, diet and habitats of the different species and had the opportunity to have a 'behind the scenes' tour of how the breeding and feeding programmes work at the centre. The class were particularly interested by 'Mo' the giant sea turtle and 'Jeff' the giant ray, with many still talking about them in amazement today! We look forward to hearing more as their learning progresses. Look out for further photographs on our school website.

It is becoming apparent that a number of children are being dropped off and left unaccompanied in the playground from before 8.30am. This is extremely worrying as any one of them could wander out of the gate or similarly anyone could wander into the playground and approach them. Staff take responsibility when the school doors open at 8.50am so please ensure you child is not left either in the playground or the school foyer. Wulstan's Lodge run a morning Breakfast Club from 7.30am every day at extremely competitive rates. Please contact Sally Bache on 01299 829032 for further details. Thank you.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.
