Dear Parents

I hope everyone had a restful half term holiday and no one is suffering from this dreadful flooding.

A reminder that next week  is Parents’ Evenings. Please ensure you have signed up for an appointment via the School Life app.  These meetings are so valuable for both parents and teachers to enable us to work together to achieve the best outcomes for your children. Thank you.

It has been an exciting week for every year group with the opening of our new Trim trail , Professor Mc Ginty Time Traveller, Messy Paint Day and a visit from the Animal Man.

The Trim Trail  opened on Wednesday with the ribbon being cut by our oldest and youngest child. An extended playtime enabled every child to have a go at travelling along the trail, avoiding stepping onto the ground or lava river! It was lovely to see the older children helping the youngest to tackle the challenge! It is still an exciting new experience and I know the children will want to play on it after school. Can I remind parents that once teachers have dismissed the children to your care that they must be supervised if they go on it. It is not suitable for children pre school children.  Again a massive thank you to everyone who has contributed to the cost through cake sales, discos , Fayres and sponsored events.

On Tuesday Reception Class and Year 1 were joined by the Ani,al Man. It was an exciting morning learning about and holding a range of animals, owls, giant cockroaches and a snake. We were very impressed with the children’s gentleness towards the animals and also with the sensible questions they asked. Well done children.

Tuesday also saw the return of Professor McGinty, Time Traveller.  All of KS2 children experienced an historical workshop focusing on their history topic. Professor Mc Ginty is highly skilled at delivering information in the most memorable and amusing way. It was a great day!

This Tuesday was Shrove Tuesday and once again the PTA kindly offered to sell pancakes at playtime. My thanks once again to the ladies who organize the preparation and sale of these treats and I am delighted to say raised £42.77.

On Ash Wednesday we will be celebrated a beautiful  whole school Mass and ashes were distributed. The children read, sang and prayed with great reverence. We will be encouraging the children to focus on doing something positive during this season of Lent as part of their preparation for Holy Week and Easter.

Next week the School Book Fair will be arriving and will be open after school each evening from Wednesday 4 March at 3.30 until it is collected again on Wednesday 11 March. It will also be open in the mornings before school, from 8.30 am starting on Thursday 7 March. The standard of reading at St Wulstan’s has always been very high and this is in no small part due to the support and encouragement parents give to their children. So if you are thinking of looking for more reading material for your child, do come and have a look at the books on offer at the Book Fair. Sales from the last Book Fair meant school received free scholastic books These were purchased solely from the commission earned .These are now be available to the children in our school library. Every book purchased by you enables us to enhance the library and hence your child’s experience of reading so thank you.

Next Thursday 5 March ,the whole school will participate in ‘World Book Day’  by dressing up as book characters. This is always an exciting day in school and I am sure this year will be no exception. The children will all receive a £1 book voucher and will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair with their class. If you wish your child to buy a book they can also bring money in on Thursday to put with their voucher.

Next Friday our Under 9 and Under 11 football  teams will be competing against Catholic schools from across Worcestershire in the CTA tournament. The children have been playing together for some time now in their Wednesday club and we have high hopes of success. The football tournament will take place on Friday 6 March at Winterfold school. We wish both our teams the very best of luck and look forward to sharing their news next week.

Dominick , our Olympic gymnast unfortunately had to postpone his visit today due to Olympic training but we look forward to meeting him next Friday afternoon. Monies raised through their sponsorship will go to purchasing further playtime activities for the children. Thank you in anticipation.

This week we welcomed back Mrs Mallinson who has been on maternity leave. It is lovely to have her back leading music and music lessons in the classrooms.

Wishing you a lovely weekend
