Year 5 2021 - 2022

St Chad's Cathedral Visit with Year 6

Year 5 and 6 were incredibly lucky and had the opportunity to visit the beautiful St. Chad's Cathedral in Birmingham. We had a tour and learnt some incredible facts about the building and it's history and even attended Mass. It was a memorable day for all and our St. Wulstan's children were an absolute credit to us with their wonderful manners and thirst for knowledge. Well done Year 5 and 6!

Lent Retreat with Dan and Emily

We absolutely loved taking part in the Lent retreat with Dan and Emily. It was a lovely afternoon of reflection. We really enjoyed learning the songs - words and actions - and we also learnt more about the Stations of the Cross.

Bikeability

Year 5 took part in Bikeability training to help us learn how to be more confident and safe when riding our bikes on the road. It was a great week and we all learnt so much. We spent one day riding our bikes on the playground and then headed out into the local area to put our learning to the test. The instructors were wonderful and were incredibly impressed with Year 5 and how brilliant their listening and behaviour was. You were fantastic Year 5, well done!

Mummifying Tomatoes!

As part of our Pharaohs topic and as part of science week, Year 5 became embalmers and we had a go at mummifying tomatoes. We tried to follow a step by step process as close as we could to the ancient Egyptians. We then stored them away in their 'tomb' and in 40 days time, we will see what has happened to our tomatoes and whether our mummification process has been successful!

Science Week Investigations!

As part of our science week, Year 5 investigated  levers and tried to explain how they worked. After we had investigated, we sued our new scientific knowledge to design a lever based machine that could have helped the ancient Egyptians lift water from the River Nile on to the banks.

Bellboating

This has been a super busy half term for Year 5! We have been incredibly lucky and have had SO many amazing opportunities and new experiences! Bellboating was a new skill for many of us and quite tiring! But we had a wonderful trip along the canal in Stourport and even travelled through a lock!

Tag Rugby Training and Tournament

We had a brilliant time taking part in a tag rugby training session before heading off to a tournament. We were up against Year 6 teams, but we worked wonderfully as a team and remembered our training tips and played some great rugby! The weather for the tournament unfortunately wasn't on our side, but it didn't dampen our spirit! A job well done Year 5!

Visiting Stourport Library

We had a wonderful time visiting Stourport Library and found some truly amazing books! There was definitely something for everyone! The staff were super helpful and we enjoyed reading to each other and seeking out books by our favourite authors. It was a great morning!

Building Pyramids!

To start off Year 5's new topic of Pharaohs, we were set the challenge of creating the tallest freestanding pyramid using only cocktail sticks and jelly sweets! It was a lot of fun, but really tricky!

WELL DONE YEAR 5!

A huge congratulations to Year 5 for an amazing performance at Birmingham Town Hall for our pyramid concert. This year's theme of Brit Pop was a lot of fun and you all worked incredibly hard over 6 months to produce a wonderful performance. All of the grown ups at St. Wulstan's could not be more proud! Thank you for all of your hard work! A day of wonderful memories was made!

Children's Mental Health and Wellbeing Week 2022

Year 5 absolutely loved their "Well Being Walk" with the whole school and some of our Year 5 grown ups. It was a beautiful day and it was so lovely to go and visit the trees that we planted a few years ago - they had grown almost as much as we have!
