Message from Mrs Brocklesby

Thank you to everyone who attended the meaningful Year 4 Mass today. It was wonderful to hear  and see the children participate  reverently and read so well. The theme of the Mass was peace and we all reflected on how we can bring peace into our own lives during the Jubilee Year.

The Jubilee Prayer

Father in heaven,
may the faith you have given us
in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,
and the flame of charity enkindled
in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed hope
for the coming of your Kingdom.

May your grace transform us
into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel.
May those seeds transform from within both humanity and the whole cosmos
in the sure expectation
of a new heaven and a new earth,
when, with the powers of Evil vanquished,
your glory will shine eternally.

May the grace of the Jubilee
reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope,
a yearning for the treasures of heaven.
May that same grace spread
the joy and peace of our Redeemer
throughout the earth.
To you our God, eternally blessed,
be glory and praise for ever.

Amen

Over the next few weeks we will be launching a recycling initiative for everyone in school. It is a great way for children to contribute to a more peaceful and sustainable environment.

From Monday we will be encouraging children to take their food waste home. This is a simple yet effective way to reduce waste at school and promote sustainability. It also teaches children responsibility for their own actions and the impact those actions have on the environment.

We will have dedicated bins for recycling, general waste, and food waste around the school and this will definitely make it easier for everyone to sort their waste properly. It will also help to visually reinforce the message about sustainability.

The Wildlife Warriors will help us by creating some educational signage near the bins, explaining what can go in each one and why it's important.

Board Games Night - Join us for a fun board games night after school from 3.30pm-4.45pm next Wednesday.  Tickets are £3.50 per child (on Parentpay only) and include a snack and a drink.  If you would like to order your ticket, please contact Mrs Brown in the school office.

Egg Decorating Competition and School Council Easter Egg Hunt

This year, we will once again be hosting the very popular 'Decorate an Egg Competition'.  Please bring  your creations into school on Friday 11 April.  All entries will be displayed in the school library.  One entry per child.  Please make sure that your child's name and class are clearly marked on their entry.    Prizes to be won.   Good luck!

On Tuesday 8 April, the School Council will be running an Easter Egg hunt to raise money for a reading shed for the playground. Please bring in 50p by Friday 4th April to sign up for the hunt.

Message from Mrs Warnett

Reception and Year 1

Reception and Year 1 have had a fantastic week full of learning and creativity! In Science, the children have been exploring the importance of recycling and how it helps our planet. In RE, they have been thinking deeply about the concepts of choices and forgiveness. The lovely weather has made their Tennis sessions even more enjoyable as they continue to develop their skills. Meanwhile, in DT, the children have been putting their knowledge of wheels and axles into practice by designing and making their very own pull-along toys. Well done, everyone

Year 2 and 3

Year 2 and 3 have been working hard in swimming, with some taking plunges into the deep end and swimming without a 'push off'. Others have progressed in backstroke, using a noodle, floats or just a ball. Well done! In PE, the children have continued to work on their backhand and have developed in accuracy as they work to hit balls over the net using a backhand. In PSHE, we have had an interesting week looking at life cycles. The children had some deep questions about the circle of life, which they discussed with care and maturity. The children have enjoyed looking at photographs of their lives so far, from baby, to toddler and beyond. It has been wonderful to see their life journeys so far!

Year 4

The children have had a really busy week this week but have continued their efforts and enthusiasm through it all. After completing their maths tests for the Spring term, the children started their fractions unit looking at mixed numbers and improper fractions. The children are really staring to see the benefit of learning their times tables facts as this has really helped them this week. In art, the children created a composition of objects that they will now use to paint applying some new techniques taught in previous lessons. They are looking forward to trying to replicate their compositions using paint. In geography, the children looked at naming and researching the different biomes found around the world. They were interested to find out about the climates, animals and plants found in each biome. On Tuesday, we had the exciting opportunity to meet the author Cat Weatherhill. The children really enjoyed listening to her stories and advice about writing stories and sharing them with others. The children were very grateful to Mrs Tasker for providing them with such an exciting opportunity. This morning, the class celebrated Mass together with Father Richard, Mrs Savage and friends and family of the children. The children read beautifully and behaved reverently taking the message of 'Be at peace with everyone' through the rest of Lent and remainder of the school year.

Year 5

As we edge closer to the end of a busy term, Year 5 have been keeping up their hard work this week. In maths, the children finished their work on area and perimeter and will be beginning to find out about statistics – thinking about line graphs, two-way tables, conversion graphs and much more. In art this week, the children continued creating their ‘same image, four ways’. This was helping the children think about how artists make decisions, but then also allowing the children to time to reflect upon their choices and consider which were their favourites and why. In PE, the children have continued to develop their leadership skills with a focus on communication and clarity this week. The children have realised that it is not always easy to lead and that they need to consider how they can best support the people they are working with, and this is often done in a number of ways, an excellent skill to develop. In History, the children were thinking this week about the lasting legacies of Ancient Greece, from the Olympics, to language and the alphabet to the development and study of medicine and mathematics, the children were very surprised to think about how our lives may be different today if some of these thee things had not been developed thousands of years ago. Year 5 were also very lucky this week as they were able to visit a French ‘pop up’ café in our very own outdoor classroom! The children all got to visit the café owner, who had prepared many lovely snacks for children to order and enjoy. It was wonderful to see and hear the children order in French and I am sure they will tell you that the snacks were très délicieux !

Year 6

Year 6 have been working incredibly hard as they complete their assessments, showing great determination as they prepare for their upcoming SATs. In maths, they have been focusing on interpreting various types of graphs, including pie charts and are also taking the initiative to design their own. This hands-on approach has deepened their understanding of data representation and mathematical concepts. Alongside their maths work, the Year 6 children have been diligently developing their presentation skills, creating professional PowerPoint presentations. Through this, they have learned how to effectively communicate ideas and use technology to enhance their work. In P.E., they have also been focusing on carrying out yoga poses, improving their flexibility, balance, and concentration, while developing a greater sense of mindfulness and body awareness. The effort and dedication they have shown across all subjects reflect their readiness for the challenges ahead.

At St Wulstan's, we are committed to minimising missed educational opportunities. We firmly believe that a strong community is one where all our children are present in school, on time, every day unless they are too unwell to do so. By adhering to this principle, we not only impart valuable life skills and help to foster enduring friendships, but we also prepare your child for future success. We will be launching a new reward in school called 'Attendance Achievers' - a scheme where at the end of each month, we will celebrate pupils who are showing an achievement within attendance such as improved attendance, improved punctuality, sustained excellent attendance etc. The children who receive an 'Attendance Achiever' reward will receive a certificate and will be able to choose a prize from the prize box!

If your child is due to start school in September 2025 (and was born between 1 September 2020-31 August 2021) the closing date for applying for a place was 15 January.  However, you can still apply for a late application by visiting www.worcestershire.gov.uk/schooladmissions.
