Dear Parents

Congratulations go to our Key Stage 2 children for their wonderful production of ‘Into the Woods’ this week. Children from across the key stage entertained us with their wonderful singing and dancing but the stars of the performance have to be the Year 6 children who really excelled. It is hard to believe that their performance was the result of just under four week’s work! My thanks must also go to Miss Hill and Mrs Mound for masterminding the whole production but also to all the staff (too numerous to mention here) who worked quietly in the background to make the production such a resounding success. A special thank you to Sally Spencer who came in regularly to assist with the music. My congratulations and thanks go to you all. It was absolutely fabulous and I am sure will be remembered by the children for many years.  Well done everyone! Look out for a selection of photographs on our school website.

The whole school trip to the Dudley Zoo is next Friday 12 July, details of payments can be found on Parentpay. Final payments must be made by this evening, 5 July, in order for arrangements, group lists and coaches to be finalized. Thank you to everyone who has offered to come as helpers. Parent payment details have been added to ParentPay and a safeguarding meeting regarding the trip will be held on Wednesday 10 July at 3.35pm .Thank you.

The last of our CTA sports competitions is this evening in the form of our annual swimming gala. Children from across Key Stage 2 will compete against children from all the other Catholic primary schools in Worcestershire. We wish our competitors good luck and look forward to hearing of their good sportsmanship and success.

Thank you to all the Year 1 and Year 4 parents who were able to attend this week’s Showcase assemblies. Once again I was really impressed with the children’s confidence in speaking, the quality of their work and the obvious enjoyment they have had whilst learning. Well done children. Please ensure you check the school website calendar for Year 3 and Year 5 ‘s Showcase Assembly dates which are coming up over the next two weeks. We are looking forward to seeing and hearing about all the children have achieved over the last year.

This coming Monday is ‘Move up’ day. Our new Reception children who will be joining us in September will be visiting their new school for the morning. For children in Years R - 5 they will have the opportunity to meet their new teacher for next year and spend the day in their new classroom.

On Thursday 11 July you will receive your child’s annual school report. For children in Years 1, 2 and 6 this will include the results of statutory testing in phonics for Year 1 and end of Key stage assessments for Years 2 and 6. Having started to read many of the children’s reports it is clear to see how hard they have all worked this year, and also how kind and caring our children are. Well done everyone. We don’t hold a formal Parents’ Evening in the summer term as parents obviously receive the written report but if you do wish to discuss something further please contact me via the school office.

It was with great sadness we heard this week of the death of one of our school community. Mrs Mary McDonnell was a dinner lady for many, many years at St Wulstan’s and I am sure there are many parents who remember her from their own childhood. Mary was a fabulous character, firm but kind and very much loved and respected -never a sandwich crust left or an apple uneaten under Mary’s grandmotherly watch. Please remember Mary and her family in your prayers. Her funeral is at St Wulstan’s Church at 11.30 am on Wednesday 10 July.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and  we look forward to an enjoyable last few weeks of term.
