Message from Mrs Brocklesby
It has been a real joy to welcome all our pupils back to school. Seeing the children walk through the gates with big smiles, smart uniforms, and positive energy has been truly heart-warming. We’re off to a fantastic start!
We are also thrilled to welcome our new Reception pupils into our school family — we know they will settle in quickly and begin a wonderful journey with us.
Across the school, our children have now met their new teachers and are settling into their classes with eagerness and excitement. We’re delighted the children will study new topics, designed to inspire curiosity, deepen learning, and broaden experiences.
I would also like to take this opportunity to officially welcome Mrs Price to the Saint Wulstan's community. I know that her love of teaching and supporting pupils in her care will enable all pupils to flourish.
As always, Mrs Warnett and I look forward to working in partnership with you to ensure that your child makes the very best possible progress this year. We are deeply committed to nurturing and caring for each and every pupil, so that they not only thrive academically, but also feel valued, safe, and supported every day.
There are many exciting opportunities ahead throughout this academic year. including a range of educational trips and inspiring visitors coming into school. These experiences are carefully chosen to enrich our curriculum and help bring learning to life for our pupils. As ever, parents will be invited to join our whole school community, and will be invited to learn alongside your child in our memorable events held throughout the year. Today it was wonderful to see parents from years 1 and 2 making blackberry and apple crumble with the children.
Thank you, as ever, for your ongoing support. It truly makes a difference, and we are so grateful to work alongside such a positive and engaged community of families.
Wishing you and your child a happy, successful year ahead.

Reception
The Reception children have settled in brilliantly this week. They have enjoyed exploring their new learning areas and have started to build lovely new friendships. We have been so impressed with their fantastic behaviour, positive attitudes, and eagerness to learn. It has been a wonderful start, and we are looking forward to an exciting year ahead!
Year 1 and 2
The Year 1 and 2 class have had a super start to the term, starting off with enjoying getting to know Mrs Price. Mrs Price, who has taught at our school previously, has been so impressed at the hard-working, kind and positive nature of the class and has thoroughly enjoyed getting to know everyone. The class have been working on their handwriting, planning class assemblies with a friend and creating beautiful symmetrical pictures for a class display. The children have been enjoying reading 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit' by Beatrix Potter and have finished off their first week with an exciting day today. The children walked down to the river to gather blackberries (just like Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail!). The children had a lovely walk in the sunshine and even found Peter Rabbit's home! This afternoon, the children worked hard to bake delicious blackberry and apple crumbles. We hope that our Year 1/2 families have enjoyed them for pudding this evening! Mrs Tasker and Mrs Harris were so grateful to the adult helpers who joined us on the walk and for baking. It was lovely for the children to have so many adults supporting them and everyone had a lovely day!
Year 3 and Year 4
The children have impressed Mr Tasker and Mrs Johnson this week with their positivity, independence and effort. Settling in to a new class and new routines always takes a little time, but the children have had smiles on their faces and shown kindness to each other which has created a positive environment in class. The children have hit the ground running with their times tables and have really enjoyed using 'Hit the Button' and 'Times Table Rockstars' to show their knowledge of the times table facts previously taught. We finished the week with their first swimming lesson back after the holidays. The children showed confidence and effort as they showcased their skills from last year and has great fun playing in the pool to finish. Next week, the children will begin their art, history, computing and PE curriculums and are looking forward to exploring these in more detail!
Year 5
Year 5 have a had a fantastic start to the school year. The children have been very busy planning their pupil led liturgy sessions for the Autumn term. The children have created some wonderful artwork for their ‘What God Calls me to be’ wall. Year 5 have also been working hard discussing our virtues and values and what it means to be ‘eloquent and truthful’. As part of the upcoming term, year 5 will be looking at place value up to one million. On Thursday, the children looked at revisiting their knowledge of numbers up to 10,000 and focused on reading numbers up to 100,000. On Friday, the children wrote a letter to their future selves, discussing what they wanted to achieve in Year 5 and what are some things they are looking forward to. What a lovely first week back, well done Year 5!
Year 6
It has been such a positive start to the year for our new Year 6! The children have come back to school recognising the responsibility that comes with being in the last year of primary school and the children have certainly shown that they are ready to accept the challenges that they may face in the year ahead. Miss McGowan has said that the children’s attitude towards their work has been incredible and the children are all looking forward to taking part in the voting for House and Sports Captains next week. We are all very excited to see what can be achieved over the coming months. This week, the children have thought about how Saint Bernadette demonstrated the virtues and values of eloquence and truthfulness and the impact of this. Inn PE, the children were problem solving and developing teamwork skills – very impressive it was too! Next week, we will begin to explore our Year 6 curriculum and will even have a visit from Mr Hodgson – another fabulous but busy week lies ahead!
