Message from Mrs Brocklesby
Confirmation at Saint Wulstan’s Church
We are delighted to share that many of our Year 6 pupils received the Sacrament of Confirmation at Saint Wulstan’s Church on Tuesday, 3rd June at 7:00 PM, by Bishop David.
Our candidates, who were prepared by Fr Richard and Mrs Freitas, received the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit in a beautiful and reverent ceremony.
Following the Mass, families returned to school for a joyful celebration. It was a wonderful evening of faith, fellowship, and community.
Please continue to keep our newly confirmed pupils in your prayers.
Message from Mrs Warnett
Reception & Year 1
Reception and Year 1 have had a wonderful start to the new half term. In Science, the children continued their topic on plants by exploring the different parts of a plant. They also planted their own sunflower seeds and are looking forward to observing their growth over the coming weeks. During PE, the children took part in a fun and energetic cricket skills lesson, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. In Art, the children showed great creativity as they recreated Clarkes Cliff plates, producing some beautiful and imaginative work. Maths learning has also been in full swing, with Year 1 beginning to explore fractions, while Reception have been learning all about 3D shapes. n RE, we have started learning about Pentecost and the important messages it teaches us.
Well done to all the children for such a brilliant first week back!
Year 2 & Year 3
Year 2 and 3 have been enjoying writing their own riddles this week. They have looked at the features of a riddle to help them plan and write their own. The children have created beautiful copies of the riddles to place around school for others to enjoy! How exciting and a lovely purpose for writing. We wonder whether the rest of the school will find them easy or difficult to guess! In PE, the class have started a half term of cricket coaching through Worcestershire Cricket. They enjoyed getting to know the basics of the game and developing the necessary skills to play successfully. In maths, the children have completed some work on temperature and are now moving on to fractions. The class have been identifying equal and unequal groups. In RE, the children discussed the idea of being 'hopeful' and enjoyed working with Year 4 to share hopes and affirmations to boost confidence. Thank you to Year 4 for all the kind things they thought to say! In geography, the children have been learning about rivers and compared the River Severn with the River Nile, linked to their history work. They enjoyed using Digi Maps. What a busy week!
Year 4
The children have enjoyed being back at school these week and have been busy learning about some new topics in their lessons. In PE, the children looked at the word 'stamina' and completed a series of activities that were designed to test and improve their ability to carry out a task for a period of time. Over the next few weeks, the children will receive opportunities to learn how to improve their physical and mental health. In Music, the children looked at some of the sounds and instruments linked to 'Samba'. The children were really interested by the origins of this music and enjoyed seeing examples of carnivals from Brazil. In maths, the children have been developing their understanding of coin and note values and how to calculate costs using money. This is such an important life skill and the children have really impressed with their knowledge and understanding. Finally, the class celebrated Mass this morning with the theme being 'Believe in Jesus'. The children recognised how the gifts of the Holy Spirit can be used in our lives to make the correct choices or in times of challenge. We also had some wonderful readers who read with clarity and confidence. Well done, everyone!
Year 5
This week Year 5 have been busy yet again! The children have continued their learning about the Tudor period and have delved further in to the life of Henry VIII finding out why he broke away from the Catholic Church. The children will continue exploring the life of Henry VIII next week during their virtual visit with an expert from the Mary Rose museum. On Tuesday, the children were lucky enough to take part in a fun football session with Kidderminster Harriers. All the children had a great time and were fabulous, showing off their excellent football skills. In DT, the children have started to think about designing a stuffed toy which they will be making in the coming weeks. To end the week, the children went to St George’s in Worcester and took part in a very special Mass. Thank you to Mrs Freitas and Mr Joyner for accompanying the children, They said that Year 5 were fantastic ambassadors for St Wulstan’s. We are also all very proud of Heidi, who did a reading during the Mass, well done!
Year 6
As part of our science lessons on the circulatory system, the Year 6 children took part in a heart dissection activity. Using pig hearts, the children were able to examine the heart’s structure and function through a practical activity. The children were guided through the dissection process and were encouraged to observe, ask questions, and make connections to what they had been learning in previous lessons. Last Tuesday, the Year 6 children received the Sacrament of Confirmation in a beautiful ceremony led by Bishop David and Fr. Richard. It was a special and meaningful occasion for the children, their families, and the school community. Bishop David took the time to speak with the children and was impressed by their knowledge. He praised their thoughtful responses and the way they had prepared for this important step in their faith journey. It was a heartfelt and meaningful day that will remain a highlight in the children's journey of faith. Congratulations to the children!
Year 4 Mass
Today, Year 4 celebrated Mass and the theme was 'Believe in Jesus.' The children were asked to reflect on what it means to truly believe in Jesus and how they can show that belief through their actions, words and choices each day. They read beautifully and listened attentively. It was a meaningful and prayerful occasion and we are so proud of how they represented themselves and our school community. A special thank you to Fr Richard for leading us in the celebration, and to all the families who were able to attend and support the children.
