Dear Parents

A very warm welcome back to all our children and families. The children have all made a fabulous start back and there has been a really happy and enthusiastic atmosphere throughout the school. The children have settled extremely well, their enthusiasm and their resilience is remarkable and they are a credit to you all.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us by adhering to the arrival and departure time slots. This has enabled us to welcome and dismiss the children calmly and safely. It is a very complex operation to manage and we do need everyone to continue to be so supportive. Many thanks to everyone.

It is also crucial that everyone is also considerate with parking and waiting outside the school site. Please try to avoid arriving too early and park with consideration to our neighbours and to eachother. If you are waiting for your slot please keep away from the pedestrian entrance and off the pavement so families can walk through safely. As all families are leaving through the vehicle exit please do not drive into or park in Elmfield Walk at any time. This system worked exceptionally well last term but I have been made aware of some inconsiderate behaviour so please remember we are all trying to do our best to make life as normal for our children as we possibly can. Thank you.

Sadly, due to the Lockdowns and restrictions we were unable to celebrate our First Holy Communion and First Reconciliation with our present Year 4 children . Father Richard and I have met to discuss ways that we can ensure your children, and our present Year 3 children, will receive these two Sacraments. We will contact parents to discuss plans as soon as possible in the next week or so.  We are also awaiting guidance from the Diocese regarding Year 6 children’s Confirmation in July. As I say we will update you as soon as we possibly can.A reminder than under current restrictions all Masses from St. Wulstan’s Church are live streamed. To view, use the following link. https://camstreamer.com/redirect/17b20f4f2905d01/S-46088. As congregation numbers are presently restricted you may attend any of the weekend Masses by pre-booking a place by texting 07853 120971.

Many parents have commented this week on how much their children have grown. We completely understand and also appreciate how difficult it is to buy uniform ,especially new shoes, at this time. If you are still awaiting uniform or shoes please just let me know on the door in the morning. I am sure we are all looking forward to non essential shops and businesses reopening.

Though it is hard to believe, the Easter break will soon be upon us. When they return the children are able to wear summer uniform of red checked dresses for the girls and red polo shirts with shorts or trousers for the boys. Please note checked shorts/skirts or all in one ‘jumpsuit’ style are not part of our uniform. Red sandals are permitted but please do not send your child in open toe sandals. Summer uniform is not obligatory if your child prefers to carry on wearing white shirt and tie.

I know many parents will take their children for haircuts when hopefully hairdressers reopen in the holidays. Again we remind you that extreme haircuts, shaved or dyed, are not acceptable. Several parents have asked what is the permitted cut and we request a Grade 3 is the shortest. Several children have returned with extreme haircuts and once grown out we request that you adhere to our uniform policy. Thank you for your support,

Week commencing Monday 22 March we will be holding our Spring Parent Evenings. These will be held remotely with a video meeting between yourselves and your child’s teacher. This is a system new to us all but has been proven to be very successful and will give the opportunity to have a virtual meeting rather than a written report. We will send out booking details and further information next week.

After several years as lunchtime supervisor, Mrs Alison Thomas has decided to retire from her role. She has given many hours of her time freely supporting the children in their work, PTA work and helping ‘behind the scenes’ on so many occasions, the extra pair of hands that enables school events to run smoothly and enhance the children’s experiences. I would like to thank Mrs Thomas on behalf of everyone at St Wulstan's for the love and care she has always given to our children.

Wulstan’s Lodge are running ‘Holiday Club’ over the Easter holidays. Activities include Easter crafts, treasure hunts, baking, ‘Bring your Wheels’ days, Easter bonnet parade ,to name a few. There is an Early Bird Offer – book and pay for your child’s place by Friday 19th March 2021 and pay just £22 per child per day- bookings made after this date will be charged at the normal price of £25 per child per day. Parents of children starting school in September 2021 will shortly be receiving offers of school places. If you know of any family who may be doubtful of their school offer please encourage them to contact me. Similarly if any parent has applied for St Wulstan’s and has any queries or would like to visit please do not hesitate to ring or email me.

If at any time you have any concerns at all about your child, be they educational, social or emotional, please do not hesitate to contact their class teacher or myself.

We hope you enjoy a lovely weekend

We received a wonderful gift of a box of books from Morrisons supermarket this week. Thank you Mrs Packwood for nominating St Wulstan's for this lovely surprise !

The children have had an exciting week catching up with their friends. It is lovely to see them so happy and to see and hear them around the school again. Welcome back everyone!
