Message from Mrs Brocklesby

✝️ The Stations of the Cross – A Journey Toward Easter 🌿
As a family of Emmaus Schools, walking through the Stations of the Cross this week has been a powerful way to prepare our hearts and minds for Easter. Each station has been led by a different Emmaus School. At each station we have been invited to reflect deeply on Jesus’ journey to the cross — a journey filled with love, sacrifice, and hope.
Through prayer, performance, art, and quiet reflection, we have come together as a school community and the Emmaus Community of faith to remember the meaning behind Holy Week. This experience has helped us grow in compassion, understanding, and gratitude, reminding us of the true message of Easter: new life, forgiveness, and the promise of resurrection.
Wishing You a Happy & Holy Easter ✝️
As we come to the end of this Lenten journey, all staff would like to wish all our families a very happy and holy Easter. May this special season be filled with peace, joy, and the hope of the Resurrection.
We warmly encourage all families to celebrate Easter by attending Mass at Saint Ambrose Church, where we can gather as a faith community to rejoice in the Risen Christ.

I would just like to thank all families who entered the egg decorating competition.  The effort and creativity that went into the entries was amazing. The judges had a hard time choosing a winner and this speaks volumes about how talented everyone was! It was so exciting to see all the different and well thought out designs.

Please see a selection of the designs below.

Congratulations to our 'eggcellent' winners!

Message from Mrs Warnett

Reception and Year 1

Reception and Year 1 have had a wonderful end to the term.  The children have worked incredibly hard all week.  In RE they have been learning about Holy Week and have written beautiful prayers and made some lovely Easter cards.  In Design Technology the children have finished making their pull along toys and are looking forward to their next unit.

Year 2 and 3

The class have really impressed us this half term with the superb progress seen in swimming. Many children have progressed from being beginners to swimming a length of the pool using just a noodle, one or two floats or no support at all! Wow! Meanwhile, some other children have been jumping into the deep end and trying trickier strokes, such as the butterfly. It has been wonderful to see their confidence build over the first 7 weeks as well as their enjoyment. The children have been learning about Holy Week in RE and thought very hard about the feelings of different people in the stories. In maths, the children have been developing their knowledge of column addition as they worked to add different lengths and heights together. Some children needed to convert mm to cm to answer questions and thought hard about this deeper understanding of units of measure. The class had a lovely time today celebrating the end of term with an exciting Easter egg hunt! We hope that you have a lovely holiday and we look forward to sharing some exciting new topics with you next term!

Year 4

What a busy end to the Spring term! This week, the children continued to work through their fractions unit in maths looking at converting mixed numbers to improper fractions. They have really noticed how knowing their times tables facts confidently has made understanding fractions easier and quickened up their ability to convert. In geography, the children have developed their understanding of the world by looking at the Tropics. They researched key features of the climates along with countries and produce found from this area. In RE, the children have developed their understanding of Holy Week not only in their lessons but by gathering as a key stage and class to watch the events unfold as they were retold by class from the MAC. The children had lots of thoughtful questions about people's feelings, reactions and choices throughout the events. In history, the children looked at the Saxon site found at Sutton Hoo. They used the artefacts and findings from the excavations to compose a detailed overview of the type of person who was buried there. In art, the children applied the painting techniques they had learnt over the course of the unit to paint their own compositions. There were lots of lovely examples of texture, tones and shades in the children's work. Finally, the children were thrilled to meet two, furry friends thanks to Mrs Bianco. A surprise visit from two newly hatched ducklings was an offer we couldn't refuse and the children were thrilled to hold and stroke our lovely visitors.

Year 5

What a busy term this has been! And this week has been no different as it has been jam-packed for Year 5! The children were lucky enough at the start of the week to have a visitor. Mrs Parton came to Year 5 and bought with her Sphero Bolts. These were small robotic balls which the children had to programme using IPads. This was an amazing afternoon, and the children were brilliant at coding the Sphero to move in squares and triangles, scroll their name, flash up a picture that they had chosen or created and even speak! It was such a great experience and a huge amount of fun, and the children were so thankful to Mrs Parton for coming to see and spend time with us! In PE, the children began to create their own ‘lessons’ that they will then deliver to younger children after Easter in order to put their leadership skills into action! Later in the week, the children also had a surprise visit from Mrs Bianco with some ducklings! It was such a lovely experience, and the children loved meeting the ducklings! To end the week, the children took part in our Emmaus Mac Stations of the Cross. The children listened and responded with reverence, and it was a particularly proud moment for Year 5 as James and Heidi were reading. An excellent job, well done Heidi and James! What a busy way to end half term! Well done Year 5, you now need to make sure you get a good rest over Easter, ready to head into your last term. There are exciting new topics ahead and plenty of opportunities to continue to challenge yourself and achieve amazing things!

Year 6

This week the Year 6 children learned about co-ordinates, reflections, and translations in their maths lessons as part of their geometry topic. They began by understanding how to read and plot coordinates in the first quadrant, before progressing to all four quadrants to challenge their thinking. When studying reflections, the children used mirrors to reflect shapes accurately across the x- and y-axes, and they discussed the properties of symmetrical figures. During translation activities, they learned how to move shapes horizontally, vertically, and diagonally on a grid, using language such as "4 right and 3 down." In RE, the children learned about two powerful Bible stories: Lazarus and the Rich Man and Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan Woman at the well. While studying Lazarus and the rich man, they explored the message of fairness and the consequences of ignoring those in need. When learning about the Samaritan woman, the children reflected on how Jesus broke social barriers by speaking to her and offering her “living water,” showing acceptance and forgiveness. To bring the story to life, the children wrote diary entries from the perspective of the Samaritan woman, imagining her thoughts and emotions before, during and after her encounter with Jesus. This week, Mrs. Bianco came into school with two adorable ducklings. The Year 6 children were delighted and couldn’t wait to see them up close. The visit sparked curiosity and excitement, with many children eager to learn more about how ducklings grow and develop. It was a joyful experience. Year 6 ended the week by revising for their SATs, showing great focus and determination as they worked through many practise questions.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and holy Easter, filled with hope, joy and the blessings of new beginnings. May this season bring light to all as they continue as pilgrims of hope.

WFSSP Wellbeing Easter Newsletter

At St Wulstan's, we are committed to minimising missed educational opportunities. We firmly believe that a strong community is one where all our children are present in school, on time, every day unless they are too unwell to do so. By adhering to this principle, we not only impart valuable life skills and help to foster enduring friendships, but we also prepare your child for future success. We will be launching a new reward in school called 'Attendance Achievers' - a scheme where at the end of each month, we will celebrate pupils who are showing an achievement within attendance such as improved attendance, improved punctuality, sustained excellent attendance etc. The children who receive an 'Attendance Achiever' reward will receive a certificate and will be able to choose a prize from the prize box!

If your child is due to start school in September 2025 (and was born between 1 September 2020-31 August 2021) the closing date for applying for a place was 15 January.  However, you can still apply for a late application by visiting www.worcestershire.gov.uk/schooladmissions.
