End of Year Reflections and Reports

It's hard to believe we're already approaching the end of the school year! The time has flown by, and we are incredibly proud of everything our children have achieved over the past year.

On Monday, you will receive your child’s end-of-year report, which provides a summary of their progress, achievements, and areas for development. These reports are a valuable way to reflect on the learning journey and celebrate the hard work and growth your child has shown throughout the year.

Please take some time to read through the report with your child and discuss their successes and goals for the future. If you have any questions or would like to arrange a meeting to discuss the report, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Thank you for your continued support this year – we look forward to celebrating the end of term together!

Bellboating Regatta – A Wonderful Day Out

The Bellboating Regatta today was a fantastic experience for all the children involved! Every child had the opportunity to participate, and judging by their smiles and enthusiasm, they thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

A special thank you goes to Miss McGowan, Mr Tasker and Mrs Mallinson, who were out on the boats with the children. Their commitment and energy was a great example to the children.

The children were all wonderfully behaved and really keen to compete. They were a credit to the school.

I would like to thank a group of parents who treated the children to a delicious selection of ice creams. This was an incredibly thoughtful gesture in the heat. It was a wonderful way to finish the day.

Reception and Year 1

Reception and Year 1 have had another productive and exciting week of learning. The children have completed their Design and Technology unit and proudly decorated their puppets—each one unique and full of character! In Computing, they have continued developing their E-books and have now successfully added sound effects, bringing their stories to life. In Maths, Year 1 have been learning about time, exploring how to tell the time to the hour and half hour. Meanwhile, Reception have been focusing on number bonds, building a strong foundation in early number skills.

Well done to all the children for their hard work and enthusiasm!

Year 2 and 3

On Monday, Year 2 and 3 had a fantastic day at Worcestershire Wildlife Trust at Lower Smite Farm, developing their scientific knowledge on plants. The children explored the site, identifying different types of flowers and finding out why there are lots of purple flowers. The children dissected plants to help them identify the different plants of a flower and their functions. The children then played a pollination game, being fuzzy bumblebees! The children investigated soil and created different structures, using LEGO. The children learnt lots and enjoyed a day amongst the beautiful flowers. They especially enjoyed walking through ‘Lavender Lane’ and learnt to find the buzzing of hundreds of bees peaceful rather than alarming! Thank you so much to the amazing staff at Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, as always, for making our science learning so interesting and easy to understand. In art this week, the class have been learning about 3D artwork, looking at how artists such as Emma Johnson create 3D maps as artwork. The children used different art tools to create their own maps, ensuring they represented the features of real maps. Later in the week, they used different materials to turn their designs into 3D maps. They have used tissue paper, fabric, card, wool and string so far to make their 3D maps. They can't wait to carry on their designs next week and have been suggesting materials they would like to add. Well done!

Year 4

Year 4 have had a wonderful end to the week by taking part in the Stourport Bell Boating Regatta for the very first time. Despite the warm whether, all three teams made it into the Year final with two boats finishing second and third. The children showed great team work and improved their paddle skills throughout the day to impress the teachers, parents and those at the helms of each boat. In maths this week, the children finished their unit of coordinates and showed great confidence and accuracy when describing the locations of points and shapes. They were then introduced to the game 'Battleships' and they enjoyed applying their skills to try and sink three ships that belonged to their partner. The children have created two excellent PowerPoints this week in different subjects. Firstly, the children researched how different cultures celebrate liturgical seasons in RE and made comparisons to how we celebrate them. Secondly, the class were asked to compare the physical geography of Greece and the UK and describe their similarities and differences. Mr Tasker has been very impressed by the children's improved confidence to create PowerPoints and the level of variety they have shown in the details and formatting of their work. Well done!

Year 5

Today, Year 5 attended the Stourport Bell Boating Regatta and, despite the hot weather, worked their socks off paddling in their teams! Every single member of Year 5 tried their best and worked their hardest and should be very proud of what they achieved on the water – well done! The children have also been working hard in the classroom and have written brilliant news bulletins this week about our book Holes, where the main character Stanley Yelnats has found himself in trouble for stealing a pair of sneakers. In maths, the children have started looking at converting units and have had to use their previous knowledge of multiplying and diving by 10, 100 and 1000 to help them with this. The children have also continued developing their art portraits and have started to create the poem portraits over their watercolour wash. It’s been a very busy week as Year 5 also attended the Hagley MAC sports afternoon. The children took part in either football, athletics, tennis or rounders. All children played incredibly well and picked up some news skills along the way, but James and Colby managed to fend off the competition and came first in the Tennis competition! A wonderful result! Well done boys!

Year 6

Over the past two weeks, many of our Year 6 children have attended their transition days at their new secondary schools. These visits gave them a taste of what's to come in September, and they’ve come back full of excitement and curiosity about the new opportunities that await them. It's been wonderful to see them sharing their experiences with peers and Mrs Freitas. It’s clear that they are beginning to embrace this next step in their educational journey. Alongside preparing for secondary school, the children have been showing great commitment and enthusiasm as they rehearse for their upcoming production of Oliver. From learning lines and perfecting songs to mastering stage directions, their dedication has been impressive. With the dress rehearsal scheduled for next Monday, anticipation is building, and the whole cast is eager to bring the story to life. They’re especially looking forward to performing in front of their families and celebrating their hard work together. To end the week on a high note, the children took part in a regatta, which was a fantastic opportunity for them to showcase their teamwork and determination on the water. Whether they were rowing, cheering on their teammates or simply enjoying the atmosphere, everyone played their part in making the event a memorable experience. It was a wonderful way to round off a busy week! Well done, Year 6!
