Message from Mrs Brocklesby

It has been wonderful to welcome everyone back to the summer term this week. Mrs Tasker and Mrs Mallinson have enjoyed teaching year 3 and would like to thank the children and families for such a warm welcome.

I hope you all enjoyed celebrating Easter Sunday and remembering the risen Christ.

We have an exciting term ahead of us, packed full of great experiences to enhance the children's learning and understanding of the world.

Please see any new dates and events added to the calendar.

Weekly Round Up From Mrs Warnett

Reception Class have had an exciting first week back in school. To launch their new topic ‘Come Outside’ they have had a delivery of 5 caterpillars! The children were very excited to receive this parcel and couldn’t believe how tiny the caterpillars were. The children thought it would be a good idea to give them names, so they are now responsible for Jake, Sparkles, Daisy, Spotty and Coco! The children will be watching the caterpillars grow and turn into butterflies, enabling them to see them lifecycle of a butterfly first hand. Each week the children will record the changes that have happened to them in their caterpillar diary. The children have enjoyed looking at a range of non fiction book about various minibeasts and have been conducting their own minibeast hunts in our outdoor area.

KS1

KS1 have had a fantastic start to the Summer Term.  In PE they have begun their cricket topic, and this week were practicing sending and receiving balls.  In Art and Design the children have been learning all about primary and secondary colours.  In Science they have been learning about plants and bulbs.

Year 3

Year 3 have had a great start to the Summer Term and have quickly settled in with their new teachers. Both teachers would like to thank the children for their hard work and support this week as we all get used to each other-they have been super!
A particular highlight was in Science where they looked very closely at parts of a plant and discovered various functions. This involved finding, removing, examining and replacing the daisy plants outside the classroom.
The children were also very imaginative and inventive in Art when they discussed 'What is Sculpture?' then created their own 3D sculptures using 2D pieces of card.
Well done Year 3, keep up the good work!

Year 4

Year 4 have had a really positive start to the term. The children have developed their understanding of proportion and composition when looking at still life paintings and were able to sketch their own compositions ready for painting next week. In maths, the children have been recognising hundredths as decimals and factions, using their understanding to complete questions. The children have really enjoyed their PE lessons this week and have started their units for cricket and tennis. They looked at the 'ready' position in tennis and how to throw the ball powerfully and accurately. In history, the children had to look at four theories of why the Indus Valley Civilisation declined and had to decide what evidence has been found to support these theories. Well done!

Year 5

Due to the rain earlier this week, Year 5 were unable to do their Wednesday PE lesson outside, so instead Miss Morgan led an amazing yoga session in the hall. The children used the lesson time as an opportunity to check in with themselves and calm their minds and bodies down after a busy few days after a long holiday! The children showed great balance in this lesson holding poses such as tree pose, child's pose and rag-doll pose. Miss Morgan has said it was a lovely lesson as the children really focused and could feel the benefits of yoga afterwards.

This week in computing, Year 5 have started creating their own computer games. They had to use 'screenshots' to create the floors, walls and decorations before creating challenges for levels one and two. Next time, they will move on to levels three and four, adding more detail and challenge as their games progress. The children honed their perseverance and problem-solving skills in this lesson and all succeeded with creating at least one level of their game. A great first week back, well done Year 5!

Year 6

It has been a great start to the summer term because Year 6 have been introduced to new topics. In P.E., the children have been learning about they can get ready, grip a tennis racket and how to place themselves into a sideways position to strike a ball. The new class novel is 'The Letters from the Lighthouse' by Emma Carroll and the children will be reading about the bombing raids that took place in London in February, 1941. This novel is linked to the World War II topic. The children have also been working hard towards their assessment that will be taking place in the next few weeks. They ended the week with a celebration of Mass with Reception and KS1 class. Fr Richard reminded all that it is paramount to love all and all actions are to carried out with love.

Design an Egg Competition

Thank you for the ‘eggcellent’ entries in the egg decorating competition.  The teachers were impressed by the children’s creative ideas and the effort put in. Mrs Brocklesby explained that the judging proved very difficult. Congratulations to all the fantastic winners!

Dear Parents,
During this season of Lent we have been taking part in Cafod's 'Big Lent Walk'. Our target is 200km and as a school, we have walked over 1000km.
🚶‍♀️🚶🏃‍♀️🏃
This is how we've accumulated such an incredible amount of walking/running:
💜Children have walked to town for their bell-boating event;
💜Children have walked laps of the playground;
💜Some classes have walked in the local community;
💜Some members of staff are training for Birmingham's Half Marathon (May 2024);
💜Some members of staff enjoy their weekly runs;
💜Most members of staff have pets that they walk on a daily basis;
💜Many members of staff enjoy their family walks at the weekend;
💜We also have Mrs Brown who is just very inspiring and walks ALL the time.
Please support us with our fundraising. We need to raise £200 by Friday 29th March (Good Friday). We have a 'Just Giving' page and we will be very grateful for any donations. Please help us meet our target. The link is below. ⬇️Thank you!
