Message from Mrs Brocklesby
The new academic year has begun with a very positive first week for our children. Everyone has returned to school with enthusiasm, quickly adapting to new routines and engaging purposefully with their learning. It has been encouraging to see everyone settling confidently into their classrooms, building strong relationships with their teachers, and reconnecting with friends after the summer break. Across the week, children have taken part in a variety of activities designed to re-establish learning habits, encourage teamwork, and nurture creativity. From sharing holiday experiences to exploring new topics in class, the atmosphere has been both productive and welcoming. We look forward to supporting every child’s progress and celebrating their achievements throughout the term ahead.
Message from Mrs Warnett
A big well done to all our children for completing their first full week back at school. We are so proud of the effort, smiles, and enthusiasm you’ve shown as we’ve settled back into routines. If parents or carers would like to get in touch with class teachers, the easiest way is by using the email address for your child's year group. These are listed below. Please note that emails will be checked during school hours, and any messages sent after this time will be responded to on the next working day. If there’s something that you’d like to talk about in person, please just give the school office a call to arrange a time, so that teachers can be ready to meet and give you their full attention.

Reception have had a brilliant first full week at school! They’ve loved taking their learning outdoors and have impressed us with their growing knowledge. The children have started learning new sounds as they get ready for writing, and in PE they wowed us with their ball skills during their very first lesson. In art, they created beautiful autumn wreaths and were able to talk about the changes we see in nature at this time of year.
Year 1/2: In science, the Year 1 and 2 children have started learning about seasonal changes. They went on a nature walk, looking for signs that autumn is on the way. They spotted autumn leaves, acorns, blackberries, damp earth, squirrels hunting for nuts and puddles from increased rainfall. They look forward to going back out again soon to continue their investigations! In history, the children have started learning about castles and have been sorting castles by their features. In PE, the children are challenging themselves through OAA games, working in teams to solve problems. Mrs Tasker, Mrs Price and Mrs Harris have been pleased to welcome a student teacher, Miss Giles to the class. Miss Giles is a PGCE student who will be working with the class this term. She looks forward to getting to know our school and families over the coming months.
Year 3/4:
Year 3/4 have completed their first full week and have been excellent all week. The children are confident with new routines and are working really hard in their lessons. In English, the children have been working on paragraph writing and adding description to their writing. Mr Tasker is looking forward to reading through their 'Star Writes' this weekend. In maths, the children have shown an excellent understanding of place value and have been able to count in 1000s and represents numbers up to 10,000 using Base 10, place value counters and part-whole models. The children worked collaboratively in their PE lesson on Tuesday and had to complete challenges working in small teams. This allows children to develop their confidence and communication skills as we start a new school year. In science, the children shared their understanding of electrical appliances that run on battery and mains electricity. The children's computing lesson this week focused on Internet safety and recognising 'Phishing' emails and how to report these.
Reminder: Spellings will begin on Wednesday. Children will be tested on 'Days of the Week'.
Year 5:
Year 5 have made a brilliant start to the new school year! The children have settled quickly into routines and have already shown great enthusiasm for their learning. In Maths, the children have been reading and writing numbers up to one million. In particular working on their confidence of reading and writing six digit numbers. They also enjoyed their first tag rugby session with Miss Gillum, bringing great energy and teamwork to the field. In Science, Year 5 have began planning an exciting investigation to discover the best thermal insulator for a cup of tea. On Monday, the children explored creation myths in RE. The children looked at different creation myths from around the world, focusing on how different cultures explain the beginning of the world. They also took part in their very first pupil-led liturgy session, which was a reflective and thoughtful start to the term. Friday was a creative day as Year 5 worked on self-portraits using continuous line drawing, showing focus and artistic flair.
Well done, Year 5, on a fantastic start—you have all worked so hard!
Reminder: PE days will be Monday and Wednesday.
Year 6:
Year 6 have really had an amazing week. The children have worked so hard, especially in maths, and are really showing the potential they have – it makes this time of year feel very exciting, who knows all of the wonderful things the children will have achieved by July! We were very lucky to have Mr Hodgson join us for a chat this week. He gave the children lots of opportunities to ask questions about secondary school and he was really impressed by the range of questions asked. In English, the children have made steps towards writing their own retell of The Crow’s Tale using adventurous vocabulary and a range of adverbials to extend writing. As Scientists, the children have started learning about light, this week focusing on how our eyes work and how we see. To end the week, a number of Year 6 children stood up in front of their house groups and read their speeches to be voted in as a House or Sports Captain. Every member of staff has said how impressed they were with the children. They all wrote the most amazing speeches and spoke with clarity and eloquence. The rest of the children were then able to vote and on Monday during assembly, House and Sports Captains will be announced. Well done to everyone who put themselves forward, you were all very inspirational and true role models!
