15 October 2021

Dear Parents

We are very much looking forward to our Green Week starting this Monday 18 October with our 'Swap the ride for park and stride'. Walking across the park or just parking at the community centre and walking down to school will encourage the children to think of walking as the norm rather than jumping in the car automatically. The children will wear their uniform but also wear a symbolic 'Green' item, a T shirt /jumper/cardigan over their uniform, green hair accessories, green socks /tights, a green tie or green trainers! Over the week each class will spend a day focusing on an environmental activity linked to their recent work on protecting our planet. We are sure it will be a fun way of learning about serious issues and the children and we adults will appreciate how even small changes can bring about significant differences. Thank you for your support.

We look forward to discussing your child's start to the new school year as well as their academic progress at our Autumn Parents ' Evening. Meetings will be held both virtually via School Cloud and in person at school. Face to face appointments will be available on Tuesday 2 November from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Virtual appointments will be available on Wednesday 3 November from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. School Cloud is the website that we used to hold our Spring 2021 parents meetings and the booking process remains the same for both virtual and face to face appointments. The booking form for appointments can be found via the following link: https://stwulstans.schoolcloud.co.uk. As many of you have signed up previously, you may receive an email reminder also. Appointments are available to book from 4:00pm today and will remain open until Monday 1 November. Please note that we will not accept any bookings made after this date in order to give staff time to prepare. A parent guide to using School Cloud will be sent home with your child.

On Tuesday we are also restarting our half termly Cake Sale for the children at playtime, We know they have definitely missed this one! We would be very grateful for donations from Year 5 and Year 6 parents for the sale on Tuesday 19 October which we will sell at 50p each. Please only prepacked cakes to again minimise risk. Year 5 are out on Tuesday on their trip but they will have the opportunity to buy their cake to enjoy as 'Afternoon tea' when they return to school. Thank you in anticipation

We are delighted  that we will be holding our annual autumn disco for the children on Thursday 21 October 6.00-7.30pm. It will be a Fancy Dress Disco open to St Wulstan's pupils only,  £2 entry or £5 for a family of siblings. To maintain COVID safety we will sell packets of sweets and drinks at 50p each but not hot dogs this year. We request that parents drop the children off but do not stay. All teaching staff will be supervising and we will ensure the children have a great time. At 7.30 we will hand over the children in the same way as we dismissed at home time throughout last year, that is following the pedestrian path to the main door.

We are sure the children will be delighted to have a return of this treat after so long!

Sadly today there was a last minute postponement of the Tag Rugby tournament at Stourport High School . So the children were not disappointed Mr Tasker arranged  for our Tag Rugby Team to play two friendly matches against Lickhill school this afternoon The children all played with enthusiasm, sportsmanship and with great respect for their team mates and their opponents. Mr Tasker said it was a delight to see the children having so much fun.

It has been a really lovely week at school and I am reluctant to end on a negative note, however I must mention yet again parking. Many of you will have noticed that I have been outside at drop off and collection time this week due to the number of concerns raised by both parents and local residents. Parking on zig zag lines or double yellow lines is illegal and parking in a manner that means local residents cannot access or leave their own homes is inconsiderate. Children are in real danger of being run over or worse. I ask again, that no one parks illegally, on the zig zag/double yellow lines outside school, on the grass on Field End or across driveways. I am aware that illegally parked cars have been recorded and if such parking continues I have told they will be forwarded to the police.  Please do not arrive at school any earlier than necessary. Lickhill school leave at 3.15pm so after this there is more opportunity to park safely and considerately.

I would like to thank the vast majority of parents who do park safely, considerately and legally.

Wishing everyone a really lovely weekend
