Message from Mrs Brocklesby

Last Sunday, we celebrated Pentecost, often called the birthday of the Church. This important feast marks the moment the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles, filling them with courage and guiding them to share the Good News with the world. It reminds us of the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives today.
This weekend, we reflect on Trinity Sunday, a celebration of the central mystery of our faith – One God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These two special Sundays remind us of God’s presence, love, and unity, and invite us to grow deeper in faith as we continue our journey through the Church year.
This Sunday is Father’s Day, a special time to say thank you to all the dads, grandads, and father figures in our lives. It’s a chance to celebrate the love, support, and care they give us every day. Whether it's through a card, a kind word, a homemade gift, or simply spending time together, let’s show our appreciation for everything they do.

We wish all our wonderful fathers and father figures a very Happy Father’s Day.

Have a lovely weekend.

Message from Mrs Warnett

Reception and Year 1

It’s been another busy and exciting week! The children have had great fun learning football skills during a session led by Kidderminster Harriers, while also continuing to develop their cricket skills in PE. In Science, they’ve been exploring the different parts of trees, and in Geography, they've been learning all about London. In Maths, Year 1 have been continuing their work on fractions, focusing on finding halves and quarters of quantities. Meanwhile, Reception have been learning to recognise and create patterns using 3D shapes.

Year 2 and 3

Year 2 and 3 have been enjoying their cricket coaching sessions this half term. They enjoyed playing a traffic light game this week, testing their reflexes! They worked hard on their bowling technique, as you can see in the photos! In RE, the children have been learning about Pentecost and have been re-telling the story. They celebrated Mass on Friday with Father Richard and impressed us with their beautiful reading, as always. In maths, the children have been learning about halves and quarters, with some starting to apply this to their times table understanding. The children enjoyed designing and creating Fathers' Day cards and tried hard to think about things their dads enjoy when choosing their designs.

Year 4

Year 4 have been challenging themselves to tell the time on analogue and digital clocks in their maths lesson this week. Firstly, they recapped o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to and then they looked at converting some of these time to digital form. In French this week, the children started their new unit 'Ma Famille' and they verbally recalled some key nouns for people in our families and then they had to recognise these nouns in a text using their detective skills. In PE, the children continued looking at their 'Health Related Fitness' unit by using yoga as a tool to develop flexibility and focus. The children also used the 'pull' technique in their athletic sessions as they threw javelins over varying distances. The class have been really enjoying reading Charlotte's Web in class and are becoming more confident answering questions in our reading VIPERS sessions. The children are looking forward to writing about 'Off to the Fair' next week and have enjoyed sharing their own experiences of fairgrounds.

Year 5

This week Year 5 have been further developing their skills as historians with a virtual visit with the Mary Rose Museum. The children spoke to a Mary Rose expert and asked questions about everything from why the Mary Rose was built to why were only men allowed on board! The visit was fascinating and Lucy, the expert the children spoke to, was stunned by the amazing questions that the children thought of. They really enjoyed looking at artefacts from the Mary Rose and thinking about what they were and why they might have been onboard. In DT, the children have now completed their designs for a stuffed toy and the next step will be to begin making - very exciting! The children also finished their work on Hamlet this week. Their maturity and understanding have been incredibly impressive and it really has shown Miss McGowan just how far the children have come since September, both in terms of their English work and understanding but also as young people. In Science, the children used their research skills to find out about the life cycles of mammals and considered how these differed or were similar between species. Next week, the children have Sports Day to look forward to and are ready to take part in the events that they have selected next week and they will start to explore their new (and final) text of Year 5. Well done for a great week!

Year 6

This week, our Year 6 children have been working  hard across all areas of the curriculum. In English, the children have been exploring the novel Letters from the Lighthouse by Emma Carroll, which ties in beautifully with our World War II topic in history. They delved deep into the characters and events, particularly focusing on Olive’s perspective. As part of their writing, the children stepped into character and created vivid diary entries describing the emotional experience of being evacuated from London to Devon following the outbreak of war. In addition, they produced  missing person’s reports, using their inference skills and imagination to consider the impact of war on families. In Science, the children have been learning about the importance of healthy eating. They investigated the different food groups and explored why a balanced and varied diet is essential for maintaining good health. Discussions and activities have helped them understand how nutrition supports both physical and mental well-being. In P.E., the focus has been on developing fundamental cricket skills. The children practised key techniques such as batting, bowling, fielding and catching, as well as learning about teamwork and strategy within a game setting. To round off the week, the children took part in auditions for their end-of-year production: Oliver Twist. The teachers were impressed with how committed, confident the children were. It was wonderful to see so many of them stepping out of their comfort zones and embracing the auditions with enthusiasm. It’s been a busy, exciting and productive week. Well done, Year 6!

Year 2 and 3 Mass

This week Fr Richard came into school to celebrate Mass with the younger children. The theme was the Holy Trinity, which reminds us that God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Fr Richard explained how the Trinity shows us love, unity and friendship and he encouraged the children to think about how they can show these values in their own lives. It was a prayerful celebration and the children participated with great reverence and understanding. Thank you to Mrs Tasker and Mr Dudley for preparing the children.

We would like to wish all our dads and grandads in our St Wulstan's community a very happy Father's Day for Sunday.  To celebrate this day, our school Mini Vinnies are organising a special tea next Wednesday 18 June from 2.30pm-3.30pm.  All dads, grandads and  uncles are invited to come along to have a doughnut and a cup of tea or coffee with their children.  We ask that only one adult attends per family so that we can accommodate as many families as possible in the school hall.  Tickets must be purchased in advance (£3 per adult, £2 per child).  These can be obtained from the school office.  So that we can buy in the correct amount of doughnuts, the closing date for purchasing a ticket will be on Monday 16 June.    All money raised will be donated to a charity chosen by the Mini Vinnies.

If your child is due to start school in September 2025 (and was born between 1 September 2020-31 August 2021) the closing date for applying for a place was 15 January.  However, you can still apply for a late application by visiting www.worcestershire.gov.uk/schooladmissions.

If you require assistance, please contact Mrs Brown in the school office.
