Dear Parents

We’ve had a wonderful few days in school with two fabulous Christmas celebrations. We have enjoyed a lovely festive atmosphere as we celebrated Advent and Christmas with two fabulous productions of the beautiful KS1 ‘Nativity’ and an exceptional KS2 Christmas Service. Both these celebrations highlight how talented the children of St Wulstan’s are, and how they rise to every occasion. The children spoke with clarity and confidence and sang beautifully. I, along with all the staff, am incredibly proud of our children as I know you, their parents, must also be. Well done children! I would like to thank all the staff who worked so hard to prepare the children for these events. Well done everyone!

On Wednesday the children from Year 2 to Year 6 experienced a wonderful opportunity to work with the District Council’s Ranger Service planting trees at the Riverside Meadow in Stourport. The project has been organized by one of our parents, Adam Hamilton ,who is Biodiversity and Conservation Officer for the Wyre Forest. The trees have been specially chosen as they are important to the nationally scarce Hornet Clearwing moth which is found close by.

After walking down, following the riverside the children helped plant several trees each. I  believe there are over 2000 in total. It will be lovely for the children to watch the trees they planted flourish and grow over the years. Thank you to all the parents who accompanied us during the day, your help and support was very much appreciated. It really was a lovely learning experience and we hope to do more environmental work with the Rangers over the year.

Saturday afternoon was another exciting day as fifty children and families attended the British Police Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Hall in Birmingham. The tickets were given freely and we are extremely grateful to Mr Paul West, retired Chief Constable of West Mercia police and a past parent, for inviting St Wulstan’s to participate. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience the spectacle of Symphony Hall as well as to listen to such an impressive orchestra. There was plenty of slapstick humour to entertain us as well! Mr West and two musicians also joined us on Friday morning to introduce the children and their families to some of the instruments they would hear and see. My thanks to Mrs Edwards for organising this trip, which we both thoroughly enjoyed also.

Today was ‘Christmas Jumper Day’ and there were some lovely and very imaginative jumpers on display. Thank you to all those parents who made such generous donations to our local foodbank. Mr Greg Kelly, our Parish food bank collector has previously expressed his deep gratitude for your generosity and said this will make the difference to many people this Christmas. We will take your donations to church this weekend and I know they will be very gratefully received. Thank you for your generosity.

On Tuesday our popular half termly cake sale will take place. Thank you in advance to our Year 5 families for cake donations. If you would like your child to buy a cake please send in 30p on Tuesday morning. My thanks to the PTA mums and grandmothers who set up and sell at the cake sale.

Thursday 19 December is our Christmas Party Day- a major highlight in the life of St Wulstan’s children (and staff!) Children come in their party clothes and an exciting day of festivities ends with a visit from a very special person! Please remember lunch is sausage and chips, with a vegetarian option too, all provided from school so your child will not require a packed lunch on Thursday.

On Friday 20 December Fr Squires will be joining us at 9.15am to celebrate the last Mass of the year, our Christmas Mass. Any parent, family or friends who are able to join us for Mass will of course be most welcome and please join the staff for a cup of tea and mince pie afterwards. This is traditionally ‘Toy Day’ at St Wulstan’s when the children are allowed to bring in a toy to play with friends. Please no electrical or expensive toys but toys that encourage others to join in, for example dolls, board games etc.

We do not anticipate inclement weather but please be aware of the procedures for school closure due to snow. This guidance can be found on the school website under parent information tab. Thank you.

It has been a very busy term and I think the children are all ready for a well -deserved break. We look forward to a lovely last week of term enjoying the children’s excitement. School closes on Friday 20 December for the Christmas holiday and re-opens on Tuesday 7 January.
