Below is the Ofsted report from our recent inspection in February 2025, which reflects the hard work of the children and staff in our school and also the support you give your children in their learning and development.

News from Mrs Brocklesby

This week it has been wonderful to share our Ofsted report. We have achieved Good in every area which reflects the school's dedication to providing a high-quality education. The inspectors praised the ambitious curriculum, and the supportive and inclusive environment that fosters both academic achievement and personal growth. The children achieve well in lessons, enjoy school and are happy. Our commitment to creating a safe, nurturing space for learning was evident, and the positive relationships between staff, children and their families were highlighted as key to its success. This result is a testament to the hard work of the entire school community.  THANK YOU

Purple Day!

Wednesday 26th March is Worldwide Epilepsy Awareness Day. In order to raise awareness and funds for a charity that has supported some of our families. The Daisy Garland, we would like the children to wear purple on Wednesday 26 March 2025 and bring in a donation to school to support this wonderful charity. Money that is raised by and for The Daisy Garland goes towards funding life-saving monitors, family support groups and their Daisy Garland Ketogenic support. For more information, click on the following link: The Daisy Garland

News from Mrs Warnett

Reception and Year 1

It’s been another busy week for Reception and Year 1.  On Monday Year 1 enjoyed making jam sandwiches as part of their English work on instructional writing.  Reception have been writing about the Very Hungry Caterpillar.  As part of science week, the children completed some underwater yoga!  In History they began their new topic on civil rights and enjoyed a hands-on lesson looking at fairness and equality.  Their skills and confidence are really developing in computing.  Well done all!

Year and Year 3

Year 2 and 3 have been working hard in art to create abstract sculptures. Inspired by the work of Robert Morris, the children have experimented with folding, concertinering and creating slits in cardboard to create sculptures. In science, the class had a wonderful time doing some outdoor investigations! In PE, the children have been developing their tennis skills and have learnt how to return to a 'ready position' after each return. In English, the children have been learning how to use short sentences to create effect. They have enjoyed choosing a fierce animal from the Stone Age to plan their own dramatic animal story! In swimming, the children have started working on their water skills. Some have been learning how to kick effectively, raising their legs and trying to lie in the correct position in the water. Some children were able to work on different swimming strokes. Well done everyone on another busy week!

Year 4

What a busy week! On Monday, the children enjoyed a 'BBC Live Lesson' with Tim Peake to start our Science Week in school. The children learnt about life as an astronaut on the International Space Station, looking at diet, exercise and hydration to stay healthy. Lots of lovely questions were asked by the children and they were really interested by the topic. On Wednesday, the children took part in a bellboating session on the Severn basin and canal. They really enjoyed working as a team and seeing their locality from a different view point. In art, the children looked at mixing paint to show 'tints and shade'. The children will the use this skill to paint an object to make it look 3D. We finished our Science Week carrying out an investigation to answering the question 'Should it be flushed away?'. The children had different materials, swirled them in water and made observations. In conclusion, we learnt that some materials break down into smaller pieces and can be flushed away while others do not. Next week, the children are looking forward to visiting Bishops Wood for the Saxon Day and look forward to sharing their trip.

Year 5

It’s been another exciting week in Year 5 with bell boating, debates, CAD design and much, much more. As part of British Science week, Year 5 took part in the BBC Live Lesson and found out about how and why astronauts exercise while they are in space as well as how they eat, sleep and even go to the toilet! The children also had a wonderful time bell boating on the canal and were great working with Year 4 and Year 6. It was lovely to see how their technique and stamina had developed from last year, well done Year 5! As geographers, the children researched and then developed arguments to debate whether a new hotel should be built on Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). The children put forward compelling arguments for either side and spoke with confidence and eloquence and shared their arguments respectfully.  In music, the children continued their work on chords and were practising playing a chord progression. In DT, the children had a go at using Tinkercad, a programme that allows children to begin to use CAD to create a 3d simulation of the Lego Micro:Bit casings made for their animal enclosure temperature sensors. The children were great at using the programme and their designs looked very impressive! Next week,  Year 5 will be starting a new art unit linked to retrofuturism and printing techniques.

Year 6

It's been a great start to the week with our Science investigation as part of Science Week. The Year 6 children have been leading an experiment on how to change contaminated water into clean water. As a class, they are working on purifying water using a few items found in the school kitchen. They are excited to share their results soon. The Year 6 children have been exploring area and perimeter in their maths lessons. They have been working on calculating the area and perimeter of different shapes, including rectangles, composite shapes, and triangles. Recently, they have learned how to find the area of any triangle. The Year 6 children have also written a detailed non-chronological report on foxes, inspired by the book Leila & The Blue Fox. Their writing focused on the fascinating journey of the blue fox as it travelled from Norway to Canada, exploring its adaptations, habitat, and the challenges it faced along the way. They worked on structuring their reports with clear headings, factual information, and technical vocabulary to make their writing informative and engaging. The highlight of the week was an exciting bell-boating adventure on the canal in Stourport. The children had a fantastic time improving their paddling skills, working together as a team and building their confidence on the water. As they navigated the canal, they also had the chance to take in the beautiful scenery and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Everyone had a great time! Thank you to Mr Tasker for organising the event.

British Science Week 2025

British Science Week is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths. The theme this year was ‘Change and Adapt’. As part of this year’s celebration, we started the week with a special assembly to discuss what the theme might mean and why it is such an important theme. The children recognised that the theme of ‘Change and Adapt’ has many links to the world around us and talked about how we all need to change and adapt to ensure that our world is cared for. The children also recognised the links to our Catholic Social Teaching, in particular Stewardship. Our incredible St Wulstan Scientists also noticed how the seasons change around us and talked about adaptions in plants and animals in order to survive. In addition to this, we talked about Scientists who have led the field in this area and how one day, they could be one of the Scientists that we talk about with a discovery that they have made – with Science, the possibilities are endless!

Many children also took part in an exciting BBC Live Lesson, which focused on how astronauts have to change and adapt to live in space. Major Tim Peake was part of the lesson, and the children even found out how a ‘bacon sarnie’ had been adapted to be made and stored in a tin so that Tim could take it to space with him!

In classes everyone from Reception to Year 6 took part in a special Science lesson linked to the Change and Adapt theme. From Sea themed yoga looking at how animals adapt to live on the ocean, to finding out what can and can’t be flushed down the toilet to investigating which materials are moist effective at filtering microplastics!

As always, the children worked incredibly hard, made their own amazing discoveries and had fun whilst doing it! Well done, what super Scientists! 😊

At St Wulstan's, we are committed to minimising missed educational opportunities. We firmly believe that a strong community is one where all our children are present in school, on time, every day unless they are too unwell to do so. By adhering to this principle, we not only impart valuable life skills and help to foster enduring friendships, but we also prepare your child for future success. We will be launching a new reward in school called 'Attendance Achievers' - a scheme where at the end of each month, we will celebrate pupils who are showing an achievement within attendance such as improved attendance, improved punctuality, sustained excellent attendance etc. The children who receive an 'Attendance Achiever' reward will receive a certificate and will be able to choose a prize from the prize box!

If your child is due to start school in September 2025 (and was born between 1 September 2020-31 August 2021) the closing date for applying for a place was 15 January.  However, you can still apply for a late application by visiting www.worcestershire.gov.uk/schooladmissions.

If you require assistance, please contact Mrs Brown in the school office.
