Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Open Morning today. It was lovely to welcome prospective pupils and families both new and those more familiar to us. If at any point you would like a second visit or you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us via the school office 01299 877808 or via email enquiries_wul@emmausmac.com The closing date for Reception Class 2023 is 15 January 2023 so if you know of anyone who is looking for a place or indeed in any other year group please do encourage them to contact us for a tour of our lovely school. We welcome families of all faiths or no faith.

Year 2 joined with our Faith Friends from Year 5 on Monday for a PE session in the sunshine. Year 5 taught Year 2 a variety of games and through this the children got to learn and grow together. The children developed a range of skills, not only in PE but also in leadership and teamwork. It was so lovely to watch the Year 5 work with the younger children and to ensure that fun and learning was achieved by all.

The children have really settled into their learning and are enjoying their topic work this term as you can see from all the photographs .This week Reception and Year 1 have been looking at spiral patterns in Science as they explored the sense of sight. They then took the spiral patterns into their artwork.

This week, Year 4 started creating their Anglo-Saxon weaving artwork. After spending a lesson looking at the historical elements of the process, the children got the chance the make their own.

This term, as part of the Rainforest topic, the Year 6 children have been learning about different animals that live in the Amazon Rainforest, including the poisonous dart frog. These creatures are 2.5 cm long and live in the rainforests of Central and South America.  But don’t let their tiny size fool you…. They are one of the most poisonous creatures on earth. The venom of just one poisonous dart frog could kill around 20,000 mice.

The children have drawn a template of the frog on felt, cut out the body parts and sewn them together using the backstitch so that the stuffing doesn’t fall out. Finally, they have added some googly eyes, colourful patterns and voilá! These are the Year 6 poisonous dart frogs beanbags! We are hoping to have them all ready for parents’ evening so that we can have a little poisonous dart frog exhibition.

Next Friday 21 October we will be holding our annual Harvest Mass in the school hall at 9.15am – please join us if you can. As always we would be very grateful for contributions towards our 'Harvest Sale' after Mass - fruit, vegetables, bread, pasta, packaged and tinned foods. The children can bring in some money to buy an item or two each, a pound or two is plenty. It is three years since we able to celebrate this Mass together and it would be lovely to see as many parents and families as possible. Tea and coffee will be served after Mass and an opportunity for you too to buy harvest goods .Thank you very much. As usual our harvest gifts will be sold and the proceeds donated to the Father Sunny Trust – a charity supported by both school and parish. Fr Sunny is well known in the parish and works with the poor and disadvantaged especially with supporting medical provision for families in the Garo Hills region of North East India. If you would like to find out more about Fr Sunny log onto www.thesunnytrust.org.uk

This morning, some of our Year 4 children went to a tag rugby festival at Kidderminster Carolians RFC organised by the Wyre Forest School Sport Partnership. In the first part of the morning, children learnt new skills and rules through drills with other schools. In the second part of the morning, the children applied the skills learnt playing matches against other schools. The children had a lovely time and the drills and matches were played in good spirits with the focus on participation and not competition.

Next Friday we break up for half term holiday. Mrs Brown has asked me to remind parents to book hot lunches before this Sunday for the week we return to school. Thank you

Winter Uniform: After half term all children will all need to wear full winter uniform. This consists of white shirt or blouse and tie and grey skirts, pinafores or trousers. All shoes must be black school shoes and trainers are not permitted. Again we remind you that extreme haircuts and dyed hair are not acceptable. Several parents have asked what is the permitted cut and we request a grade 3 is the shortest. Thank you for your support and to the many parents who double check with me before taking their child to the hairdressers.

If you have any queries or concerns regarding your child’s academic, social or emotional needs please do not hesitate to contact me or their class teacher. Many thanks for your continued support and enjoy a lovely weekend with your families.
