Message from Mrs Brocklesby

On Remembrance Day our Year 6 pupils led a thoughtful and moving Remembrance Day assembly this week. They guided the whole school through the significance of the 11th of November, sharing prayers, poems, reflections, and key moments from history with maturity and respect. The assembly concluded with a two-minute silence, during which pupils and staff joined together to honour those who have served and sacrificed in conflicts past and present. We are incredibly proud of Year 6 for their leadership and the compassion they demonstrated throughout.

As part of our Anti-Bullying Week celebrations, children today wore odd socks and shoes alongside their normal school uniform. This fun and colourful activity helped highlight the theme of celebrating individuality and showing that it’s great to be different. The whole school embraced the message with enthusiasm, creating a wonderful display of creativity while reinforcing the importance of kindness, respect, and standing up against bullying.

Three Kings' Parade 2025

On Friday 21st November, the school will be participating in the annual Three Kings' Parade in Stourport. Our trolley has arrived and we are looking forward to decorating it over the coming week, ready to proudly wheel around the parade on Friday! We would love as many of our families to come and join us for the parade (and help push the school trolley, of course!). This is always a lovely way to start the festive celebrations as a school community. Families will meet us with the school trolley at 5:30PM on the car park behind the Civic Centre. The parade finishes in front of the Civic building on New Street. The parade ends with a Christmas carol service, followed by a firework display at approximately 7.15pm. Please note that all children must be with an accompanying adult as staff cannot supervise children during the event. Wrap up warmly (and add some festive tinsel or decorations if you like!) and we look forward to seeing you all there!

Reception

This week, Reception have begun rehearsals for their Nativity play, and it has been lovely hearing Christmas songs filling the classroom—it’s definitely getting us all into the festive spirit! In RE, the children have been learning about people who help us, while in science they have been exploring different habitats. In maths, they have been comparing mass by estimating which items are heavier and then testing their predictions to see if they were correct.

KS1

Year 1 and 2 have been enjoying their science lessons on humans and animals this week, comparing measurements of different body parts to make predictions on how their bodies might change as they get older. The children tried so hard to use the tape measures correctly and worked with their partner to record their results. There has also been great excitement as preparations for the Nativity have started! The children are enjoying learning the words to the new songs this year and can't wait for the stage to go up! In English, the children have been reading 'The Smartest Giant in Town' and have been working on time openers and conjunctions in their writing. It has been great to see the children starting to apply all the different skills they have learnt so far this year in one piece of writing. The children finished the week with their first Class Mass. We were so proud of how beautifully the children read, including some very challenging words!

Year 3 and 4

The children have had an excellent week and have produced some wonderful pieces of work across the curriculum. In Writing, the children used similes and prepositions to describe a setting from the book 'The Bear and the Piano'. They created some very detailed descriptions and were keen to share their ideas and experiences of forests. In PE, the children looked at spinning on points and patches. They were asked to created three different spins and put them together in a short sequence, with some very confident and controlled sequences shared. The children started their French lessons this week and impressed with their recall of words and phrases from previous units. It was lovely to see how enthusiastic and engaged they were in this lesson. The children created several pieces of artwork over the course of the week. They created beautiful poppies for Remembrance day and respectfully participated in the service. A piece that represented 'The Wise and Foolish Builders' was created to help them understand the virtues and values 'Learned and Wise'. Finally, to celebrate 'Odd Socks Day' for Anti-Bullying Week, the children designed odd socks that celebrated them as a person and what made them unique. Next week, we are looking forward to our local history trip to the canal basin led by the Canal and River Trust.

Year 5

This week, Year 5 have thrown themselves into their new learning with brilliant enthusiasm. The children began a brand-new unit that continues their work on the Maya civilisation, this time focusing on the wider region of Central America. They explored the climate of the area and discussed how the land, weather and location helped the Maya people to thrive. The class showed excellent curiosity, asking thoughtful questions about how environment shapes a civilisation.

In science, Year 5 started their new physics unit on forces. The class have been developing setting descriptions inspired by the atmospheric animation The Lighthouse. Their writing has been full of drama, detail and tension, resulting in some truly gripping Star Writes. Year 5 should feel very proud of the descriptive techniques they have used this week. In maths, the new topic on fractions has begun. The children have been working confidently with unit fractions and have started to recognise and represent equivalent fractions. Their resilience during challenging reasoning questions has been fantastic. During gymnastics with Miss Gillum, the children have been focusing on balances, showing great control, teamwork and creativity in their routines.

Year 5 have worked incredibly hard across all subjects this week. Well done for your effort, focus and enthusiasm—keep it up!

Year 6

It’s been another busy and brilliant week of learning for our Year 6! This week, the children have written amazing setting descriptions inspired by the ice fields of Norway. Their creative writing has truly transported us to the icy, shimmering landscapes! They have also begun researching the Arctic Fox in preparation for writing a non-chronological report next week — we can’t wait to see what fascinating facts they uncover.
In our OAA (Outdoor Adventurous Activities) session, everyone demonstrated fantastic teamwork and communication skills. It was wonderful to see the children supporting each other and working together to solve challenges. In maths, the children have been working hard on fractions this week, showing resilience and a great attitude to problem solving. Keep it up!
In RE, the children wrote beautiful prayers to Our Lady and the children also watched the BBC Live lesson which helped them to reflect thoughtfully on how we can use our “Power for Good” as part of Anti-Bullying Week 2025. Their ideas showed great empathy and understanding of how kindness can make a difference. I would also like to thank the Year 6 pupils who read so beautiful as part of our Remembrance Service. You did an excellent job Year 6, thank you. What a wonderful week of learning, teamwork, and creativity — well done, everyone!

E-scooters: Do you know the law?

Although electric scooters are available to buy, they are currently illegal to use on public roads, pavements, cycle lanes and pedestrian-only areas unless part of a legal e-scooter loan scheme. As there are no legal schemes in place in Herefordshire or Worcestershire, e-scooters can only be ridden on private land with the permission of the land-owner.

West Mercia Police are actively trying to reduce the anti-social behaviour caused in the community by the illegal use of e-scooters, as well as raising awareness of the law. Anyone found using them in public areas risks having the e-scooter seized by the police.
