Message from Mrs Brocklesby

Tomorrow at Saint Wulstan's Church our Year 3 children will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first-time during Lent (previously referred to as Confession or Penance). In school children have prepared to celebrate this sacrament for the first time by developing their knowledge that they are always loved by God and that God always forgives us. There are many ways in which the children are helped to do this, not least by experiencing the unconditional love of their parents and guardians. Your child knows that you will always love and forgive them and so they are helped to see God as one who loves and forgives us in a way that we can only begin to imagine.

Please pray for the children receiving the sacrament and the families supporting them.

Loving God,

You love us totally and unconditionally.

Please help all children to grow in love and to learn how to say sorry, knowing that You always forgive.

Give families the courage to pray together and to share faith as we journey together.

I ask this through Christ our Lord.

 Amen.

I would just like to thank Father Richard, Families and all staff who have supported the children.

Weekly Round Up From Mrs Warnett

Reception: This week the children in Reception have been learning about how to look after the world. The children have been reading stories about the importance of throwing litter in the bin and have found out the effect that littering can have on our environment and the things that live in it. The children showed real maturity when they discussed how animals can be injured due to littering and came up with some great ideas for how they could help. The children have also been learning about recycling. They have looked at the different materials that can be recycled and have been sorting 'rubbish' in the classroom into the correct recycling piles. The children made posters to tell others about the importance of looking after our planet and plan to put them up around school to remind everyone about the important role we all play in keeping our world clean and tidy.

KS1: This week KS1 have completed their Art and Design unit by creating their own clay tile houses.  The children had to follow their previously created design and use joining and shaping techniques to add on detail. In Music they have been looking at call and response and how instruments can be used to create sounds to a given theme.  In RE the children have been continuing their learning on Lent with Year 1 writing affirmations and Year 2 looking at forgiveness.

Year 3

It’s been a very busy week in Year 3. In PSHE the children have had to work in groups to design their dream gardens. They had to discuss with each other what roles they would each do and make decisions as a group. The children have come up with some fantastic ideas so far and have really impressed Mr Whitcombe and Miss Morgan with their teamwork. In science this week, Year 3 conducted and experiment to see which type of soil was the best for absorbing water. Having collected the data, next week they are going to analyse the data and draw their conclusions.

Well done Year 3 on another excellent week!

Year 4

What a busy week! The children started their week by learning about what an ostinato is and when it might be used in music. They then had to sing a vocal ostinato and work in groups to perform four ostinatos rearranging the order of them. The children really enjoyed their last science lesson looking at conductivity within a circuit. They were able to confidently share what materials are the best conductors and insulators along with recognising the importance of having both types of materials when working with electricity. In art this week, the class looked at creating different effects with paint. They used brushes and materials to show applying paint to paper using dabbing and stippling techniques, paint washes, pointillism and texture. Yesterday, the children experienced bellboating for the first time. They were exhausted after the session, but really enjoyed paddling along the canal and working together as a team. Great effort everyone!

Year 5

It has been another action packed week in Year 5! The children have worked so hard this week completing their end of term assessments and all of them should be proud in their approach to their learning. The children also had a very adventurous time exploring the canals on a bell boat! It was hard work, but all of the children managed to play their part in their crews and even travelled through a lock! What an experience! Today, the children have ended the week exploring texture with a range of material as artists. They have made a collagraph tile which they will then use to print and create their own mixed media masterpieces!

Year 6

This has been a very busy week in Year 6. In Science, the children have been learning about the circulatory system. They have learnt to identify and name the main parts of the human circulatory system, and describe the functions of the heart, blood vessels and blood. The boys and girls have also been working really hard on their Spring term assessments. They have all done incredibly well and Mrs Freitas is very impressed with their determination and perseverance. Please do ask them to share their results with you. Year 6 families will be very impressed too (and proud)! To end the week, Mr Tasker had a lovely sporting event planned for the KS2 children. Year 6 took part in bell boating and it was a fantastic reward, especially after such a tiring week. It has become the highlight of the week.

Year 6 Fundraising - Lent

In our R.E. lesson this term, the Year 6 children have been learning about the different types of poverty and why it exists. They have also been thinking about their roles as disciples of Jesus and what they can do to fight poverty. The children have decided to hold some fundraising events in school and the money raised will be to support impoverished areas around the world. They have organised:

Guess the name of the bunny competition (Reception class and KS1 children) - 50p per entry.
Guess the number of Easter eggs in the basket (KS2 children) - 50p per entry.

The events will start on Tuesday 12 March and the winners will be announced on Friday 22 March.

Year 3 Mass - Love Everyone

This week Father Richard came in to celebrate Mass with Year 3. Father reminded us to follow Saint Pauls' letter by being kind, supportive, loyal, hopeful and trusting. Well done to the children who were prayerful and reverent. Thank you to Mr Whitcombe for preparing the children. Thank you to Fr for celebrating Mass with the children.

The Big Lent Walk

During this season of Lent, the children and staff will be undertaking CAFOD's 'The Big Lent Walk'. The school has signed up to walk 200km in 40 days to help fight global poverty.
