Reception & Year 1

What a fantastic end to a busy and exciting week for Reception and Year 1! The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about VE Day, marking the occasion with a festive street party lunch and an afternoon full of creative crafts. In PE, they enthusiastically took part in invasion games, developing their teamwork and strategy skills. In computing, the children tackled maze-style challenges by exploring direction and position, sharpening their problem-solving abilities. Science lessons focused on typical summer weather—perfectly timed, as the sunny conditions this week brought their learning to life!

Years 2 & 3

Year 2 and 3 have had a wonderful week! On Monday, Year 2 and 3 had another great trip to Stourport Library. After a walk in the beautiful sunshine, the class arrived at the library and were greeted by the wonderful staff who helped them find topic books for their new history topic on the Ancient Egyptians. The children were also shown how to write their name in hieroglyphics and learnt some interesting new facts about Ancient Egypt. The children had time to browse and choose their own library books for home, which they always enjoy doing! Thank you, as always, to Stourport Library for making us so welcome and helping us develop our love of reading! In DT, the children carried on their sewing lessons and learnt how to use cross stitch and a running stitch to applique onto fabric. The children started using proper needles and tried very hard when threading their needles. Well done! The class loved celebrating VE Day today and had a great time designing VE Day themed tea sets in small groups. We can't wait to use them to create a beautiful display!

Year 4

Year 4 have had a busy week and have been fortunate to spend lots of time outside enjoying the lovely weather.  Earlier in the week, the children completed their athletics trials for the CTA Competition that will be taking place on Monday up on the field. Over the past two lessons, the children have completed jumping, throwing, sprinting, long distance and relay events to see who would make the squad for the competition. As always, the children gave their all and really supported each other throughout. The children then visited the Stourport Canal Basin for their local history trip where they got to open and close locks, climb aboard 'Bramble' the famous narrow boat, built canals using models and visit the Old Ticket Office as a step back in time discussing artefacts and routines from over 200 years ago. In design and technology, the children had to select a target audience and design a torch to certain specifications. The children are looking forward to assembling their components and trying out their final products next week. Finally today, the class had the opportunity to celebrate VE Day and took part in a picnic lunch, danced the 'Lindy Hop' and drew fighter planes to add to our celebration wall. Next week, the children will take part in Bikeability Week and work towards completing their Level 1 on Friday. Good luck!

Year 5

What a busy week it has been! Year 5 started the week developing their tennis skills, trying to work with a partner to keep a rally going and making sure that control was the focus! The children also continued the theme of control in cricket, where Year 5 had to work together to throw with accuracy to make sure the ball could get back to the bowler quickly and efficiently during a game of continuous cricket. In art, the children have started to think about the composition of their final piece, considering how their line drawing, print and collage will all work together to create their final masterpiece! In maths, the children have completed their work on shape, thinking about names and properties of shape, to include faces, edges, vertices, as well as angles and side lengths and how we can use these to identify them. It was also a lovely end to the week with our St Wulstan’s VE Day celebration. The children enjoyed their picnic style lunch in the sun and then spent the afternoon being artists creating their own interpretation of ‘Blitz’ artwork. Next week, Year 5 will have another exciting week as they will be taking part in Bikeability! All the children should know what day they will be doing this and if you are in doubt, please check the letter that came home with them last week or contact Miss McGowan through the class email. Children must have a drink and ensure that they have suitable clothing and sun cream if it is due to be warm day!

Year 6

It's been another busy week! The Year 6 children have now completed their assessments, and everyone is incredibly proud of the resilience and determination the children have shown. Throughout the assessment week, the children approached each challenge with focus, perseverance and a positive attitude. Their hard work and commitment have been clear to see, and they should feel very proud! Mrs Freitas would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents for their ongoing support and encouragement. It has played a vital role in helping the children do their best. Year 6 children, please have a fun-filled weekend, doing activities you love and making the most of your free time. Whether it’s playing outside, spending time with friends or family, or simply relaxing, remember to enjoy every moment. More importantly, don't forget to indulge in plenty of ice cream! You’ve earned it!

Year 6 Mass - Believe in Jesus

Today, Fr. Richard visited the school to celebrate Mass. He spoke about the importance of being a true follower of Christ and encouraged us to live out our faith through kindness and service to others. He also congratulated Year 6 on completing their assessment week, commending them for their resilience and hard work. Thank you to the readers and the altar servers for their dedication. A special thank you to the families who joined us. It was lovely to see you all!

National Walk to School Week - We will once again be taking part in the annual five day walking challenge which takes place next week. This is a fun way for children to learn about the important reasons to walk or wheel and its benefits for individuals, communities and the planet.  In addition to walking, children are also encouraged to come to school on their bike or scooter.  These will be stored safely in the little playground during the school day.

If your child is due to start school in September 2025 (and was born between 1 September 2020-31 August 2021) the closing date for applying for a place was 15 January.  However, you can still apply for a late application by visiting www.worcestershire.gov.uk/schooladmissions.
