Celebrating Harvest and Our Scarecrow Competition!

Next week, in school we will be focusing on celebrating harvest and the gift of food. We are delighted by the fantastic number of entries to the scarecrow competition, organised by our Reception class.

Monday is the final day to bring in your scarecrow entry, so don’t forget!

To showcase the scarecrows, they will be on display on the school bank area overlooking the playground on Wednesday from 3:00 pm.

Please come along to see the amazing creations and enjoy a hot drink and a biscuit while celebrating the creativity of our pupils. Winners will be announced after the Harvest Mass next Friday.

Celebrate Harvest with Us!

We warmly invite you to join our Harvest Mass on Friday 24th October at 9:10 am. Together, we will give thanks for the gift of food and celebrate harvest as a school community.

We ask families to bring in food donations on the day. All contributions will be donated to the Kidderminster Foodbank, helping to support local families in need.

Come and share in this special celebration with us, it’s a wonderful way to give thanks, share joy, and help others!

The closing date for the scarecrow competition is Monday 20th October.  Scarecrows can be any size and made from any material.

Next Wednesday, they will be displayed on the grassy bank by the playground.  Parents and families are invited to come along at 3pm day to view all the wonderful creations.  Tea/coffee and refreshments will be served.  We look forward to seeing you there.

The winning scarecrow will be announced at the end of Mass next Friday.  Good luck!

Attendance Matters!

Being at school every day helps our children learn, have fun, and make friends. We love seeing our pupils arrive on time and ready to start the day. Keep up the hard work everyone.

Our school’s aim is for everyone to understand every single day really does count. If your child is unwell, please let the school office know as soon as possible.

Thank you for helping us make sure every child can enjoy school and reach their full potential. Let’s keep up the great attendance!

Today it was wonderful to see the whole school take part in the, "Get Green for Dwarfism” campaign. It  is a great way to raise awareness and show support. Wearing green together at school not only creates a sense of unity but also helps us start important conversations about dwarfism and inclusion. Thank you to everyone for your support.

Reception

Reception have had an action-packed week! In Science, the children explored the importance of our thumbs through fun investigations. They also put their culinary skills to the test by making vegetable soup, showing great care and control while chopping the ingredients. They impressed us all with their teamwork and enterprise as they organised and ran a cake sale for Nursery and the rest of the school, raising money for an exciting opportunity later in the term. During our Oracy Morning, the children took part in a carousel of activities that showcased how we develop questioning and conversation skills in Reception. In Music, they have been tuning into the world around them, learning to identify and describe different environmental sounds.

KS1

Year 1 and 2 have been learning how to use expanded noun phrases as they retold the story of 'Elmer and Wilbur'. In science, the children have continued to make scientific observations of trees on the school site as well as starting a new unit of work on animals. They managed to name some animals that even the staff had not heard of! During our Oracy Morning, the class discussed important behaviour when speaking and listening and worked on using these skills as they had fun conversations in groups about topics such as 'What would your superpower be if you could choose one?' The class have finished a lovely week with a trip to Stourport Library. The children were on the hunt for topic books about their history work on castles. The staff there were so helpful, as always, and the children are excited to read their new books! Those with a library card were also able to borrow books for home. Please let us know if your family would like to have their own library card as we can help you open an account.

Year 3 / Year 4

The children have completed some lovely diary entries in their writing this week, adding 'show not tell' and interesting openers in their writing. They really captured the feelings and emotions of the character from their story and loved acting out some of the examples. In art, the children used the different techniques learnt in the unit so far to design patterns to use for a print. The children enjoyed using string, card, bubble wrap, hatching and cross hatching techniques to create a figurative or abstract print. The children are looking forward to sharing their final piece of collaborative artwork next week. In science, the children had to research sustainable ways of generating electricity and how these ways have a reduced impact on our planet compared to coal or nuclear generated electricity. Finally, some of the children took part in the Sports Partnership Tag Rugby Festival this morning at Kidderminster Carolians. The children developed their confidence and communication skills while working as part of a team and even tested their skills against other school in matches. Well done, everyone!

Year 5

This week, Year 5 have really enjoyed Outdoor & Adventurous Activities (OAA). All children have participated in team-building challenges, problem-solving games, and orienteering exercises. Emphasis was placed on developing teamwork, communication, and resilience. They also explored self-portraits, learning how to observe and capture facial features accurately paying attention to detail. In science they investigated which materials are conductors and insulators of electricity to help them understand electrical safety, material properties, and scientific testing methods. Well Done Everyone!

Year 6

It has been another busy week in Year 6 and the children have taken part in many exciting activities. On Tuesday, the children had the opportunity to go to Stourport high school and take part in a basketball morning, where they focused on developing several skills and then took part in small sided games, applying the new skills that had been taught. The children were fantastic and were a credit to Saint Wulstans. They listened well to instructions given but also supported each other beautifully, well done.

In art this week we have been discussing what makes art, art. They thought about what art should be and what art shouldn't be. This led to a very interesting discussion, and it was lovely to hear the children sharing opinions and respectfully challenging each other when their opinions differed.

At the start of the week, the children took on the role of advisors and townspeople from the text, The King Who Banned the Dark and took it in turns to present ideas to the King in either support or opposition of his proposal. The children had wonderful ideas and really thought about the formality with which they would address the king. These ideas will help the children next week when they write formal letters to the king to express their opposition.

For Class Liturgy this week, Year 6 were joined by the Year 1/2 class, so that the younger children could participate before having a go at leading prayer time themselves. The Year 6 children were excellent role models and it was a real pleasure to be part of.

Miss McGowan has also told me how proud she is of the children this week as they worked hard to master long division. Their focus and resilience really paid off and it was lovely to see how confident they felt in this area. Well done Year 6!

From next Monday, we will once again be selling poppy related merchandise at play times to support the Poppy Appeal.  If you would like your child to purchase one of these, please send money in an envelope with your child's name on it.  Children can buy poppies (50p), bracelets (£1), key rings (50p) and snap bands (£1) with the poppy logo on them.
