Message from Mrs Brocklesby

Yesterday evening it was great to have our first virtual PTA meeting of the year. It was very productive as we have already started planning a number of fundraising events, including the Glow Disco for all year groups on Thursday 14th November 5.30-6:30pm. Information about the disco and tickets will be available after half term.

A Christmas Fayre has also been planned for Monday 2nd December 3:45-5:45pm. We have some great ideas but would love more ideas and help. Please email Mrs Brocklesby ebrocklesby@emmausmac.com to be added to the PTA WhatsApp group. We can't run the PTA without your support-every little helps!

Over the next few weeks we will be gathering children's and parent's/carers views to gain fundraising ideas. We will then share our wish list and fundraising goal.

Mrs Warnett's round up

The children in Reception and Year 1 have spent some more time this week thinking about the Our Father prayer as part of the Year of Prayer. This month the children have been looking especially at the words 'Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us'. The classes have been thinking about the word sorry and sharing some of the things that they are sorry for. The Year 1 children have been learning about the 'Act of Sorrow' prayer and have written things that they are sorry for onto strips of paper. These have been decorated and joined together in a chain to symbolise coming together when forgiving others. Well done Year 1 and Reception!

Year 2 and 3 have been delighted to receive lots of post this week in response to their Beatrix Potter style story letters. The children have learnt the power of written communication and have been thrilled to see what is in each envelope or parcel! We have received lots of wonderful compliments on the children's writing, some lovely messages and stories back and even some sweets as treats for the class! We even had a carrot sent from Mr McGregor's garden! Thank you to our very kind families and friends. The children have also been learning about democracy as they took part in elections for the School Council. The children read carefully prepared speeches and impressed us with their confidence and clarity. Congratulations to all and especially those elected to the School Council. We can't wait for you to share our exciting suggestions! In computing, the children have started learning about coding and have already managed to start creating their own instructions for a programme to follow. The children love computing and have even started sending each other emails on Purple Mash (with plenty of emojis, of course!)

Year 5 have begun to learn about the Miracles of Jesus this week, starting with the Calming of the Storm. In groups, the children performed their own retelling, demonstrating their understanding of how the Disciples would have felt to witness this miracle. The children have also been studying this miracle as part of their PSHE sessions, thinking carefully about the importance and impact of faith in our lives. In Science, the children used their learning about air resistance to investigate the effects of water resistance. They made predictions about which of a range of shapes would move fastest through water and considered why. The children have also been focusing on their presentation this week and have been given their handwriting home learning to  further support their hard work in school. Miss McGowan has been speaking to the children about the importance of always trying their best and having high expectations and how this a very important part of being proud of all that we achieve when we are at school. Next week, Year 5 should look forward to beginning to add captions and colour to their pop-up books, ready to share with their friends in KS1.

Year 6 have had a great week! In maths, they have been learning to carry out long division. The children are loving the new skill and are hoping to become more confident with long division.  In PSHE, the children re-visited the story of Zacchaeus and were reminded that no matter what has happened, Jesus cares for us and can change us. In Science, the children learned about Carl Linneaus who was a Swedish naturalist that created two scientific systems: the system for classifying plants and animals and the system for naming all living things. In Art, the children used photography to design and recreate a famous painting. In P.E., the children have been learning about passing and receiving a pass at speed in a game situation. A special thank you to all the children who led the Harvest Liturgy this morning.  They helped us to reflect on this important time of the year, where we focus on sharing what we have with those less fortunate than ourselves.

Harvest Liturgy

Thank you to all our families for your generous Harvest donations. The Harvest liturgy was led by the Year 6 children and they helped us to reflect on this important time of the year, where we focus on sharing what we have with those less fortunate than ourselves. The Mini Vinnies are looking forward to taking the donations to Kidderminster Food Bank. They will be used to help many families in the area.

Rosary - One Million Children Praying the Rosary

October is for the Church in a special way the month of the rosary. This year we have been invited to take part in the “One Million Children Praying the Rosary” campaign. The aim of the prayer initiative “One Million Children Praying the Rosary” is to show that the trusting prayer of children can fly like an arrow straight to the heart of God and therefore has such great power. The worldwide common prayer of the rosary by children brings many graces upon the world and is a great blessing for families and the Church. Today at 3:00 pm, the children came together to pray the rosary for peace and unity.
