Message from Mrs Brocklesby

FORMING CHRIST CENTERED PILGRIMS OF HOPE

Yesterday it was a joy to come together as a community to prepare our hearts for Christmas at Mass. The school was filled with a spirit of warmth, reflection, and shared faith as we all gathered in anticipation of the coming celebration. Father Richard offered a thoughtful and inspiring reflection on the true meaning of Christmas, reminding us that it is a season rooted not only in tradition, but in hope, humility, and God’s gift of love to the world through Christ. His words encouraged us to slow down amid the busyness of the season, to welcome Christ more fully into our lives, and to carry that love beyond school. It was a meaningful time of prayer and unity that beautifully set the tone for the days ahead as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus together.

This week, our Key Stage pupils led a beautiful and reflective Carol Service that truly captured the spirit of the season. The children sang with confidence and joy, that created a calm and prayerful atmosphere. Through carefully chosen readings and moments of reflection, they delivered a powerful message about hope, love, and the true meaning of Christmas. Their thoughtful words were a credit to all their hard work and preparation. It was a moving service that allowed everyone present to pause, reflect, and appreciate the deeper message of Christmas, and we are incredibly proud of all the children involved.

On behalf of everyone at Saint Wulstan's School I would like to wish you all a Happy and Holy Christmas.

QUESTIONING MINDS

Message from Mrs Warnett

Reception

Reception Class have had a fantastic week to end their first term at school. On Monday and Tuesday, the children got creative as they made some lovely Christmas crafts. Wednesday brought an exciting trip to the Safari Park to support their learning about animals, where they were delighted to see so many different species. Highlights included watching the penguins glide through the water and being joined by a lion while they ate their lunch! They even managed to squeeze in a magical trip to the North Pole to meet Father Christmas himself.

Thursday was party day, starting with a delicious North Pole breakfast. The children danced, played games, enjoyed a traditional sausage and chips lunch, and joined in with the whole-school sing-along — what a fun-filled day it was! On Friday, they finished the term with a special Mass followed by the much-loved traditional toy day. What a wonderfully festive and fun-filled week they had!

KS1

Year 1 and 2 have had an amazing term and have impressed us continually with their hard work and motivation to succeed. We have enjoyed seeing the children grow in independence and curiosity for learning. Well done, everyone! This week, the class have enjoyed creating beautiful calendars, Christmas cards and party hats. We hope that you enjoyed seeing their creations at home! In RE, the class have been learning about Advent. They have created their own Advent wreaths and read the very interesting stories of Zechariah and Elizabeth and John the Baptist. The children especially enjoyed learning about angels and asked lots of thoughtful questions. The children showed great team spirit during Party Day and cheered each other on when they won, which was lovely to see! Well done on a super term and enjoyed the holidays with your families. We can't wait to welcome you back in January!

Year 3 and 4

What a way to end the first term. The children sang and read beautifully on Tuesday night at our annual Advent service. We were so proud of their hard work and efforts, which resulted in a wonderful retelling of the Christmas story and start to our festivities in Key Stage Two. The children completed their torch builds in class on Wednesday and were proud of their efforts. They used design criteria to evaluate their designs and reflected on the easy and hard parts of the build. On Thursday, it was lovely seeing the children in their party clothes for Party Day. The children played musical chairs, musical statues, sang Christmas songs and even had a visit from Father Christmas. It was lovely seeing the children's eyes light up when they saw him and they were very polite after receiving their presents. This morning, the children sang and listened beautifully during our end of term Mass and reflected on their efforts over the past term. The children have worked incredibly hard and deserve a well-earned break. We hope you have a safe, happy and enjoyable Christmas and will look forward to welcoming you back in the new year!

Year 5

Year 5 have had an amazing first half term and there is so much to celebrate. The children should be incredibly proud of everything they have achieved in such a short time, from tackling new challenges in their learning to working together with confidence and enthusiasm every day. A real highlight was the Key Stage Two Carol Service, where the children shone brightly and filled the room with festive cheer – well done to all the children for their hard work, beautiful singing, and positive attitude. It has been wonderful to see how much they have grown, both academically and personally, and how supportive they are of one another. Miss Homsin is incredibly proud of the effort Year 5 have put in and how determined they have been to do their best. It has been a joy to watch their confidence grow, and this half term is a brilliant reflection of just how much they can achieve when they work together. We look forward to welcoming the children back in 2026!

Year 6

Year 6 should be incredibly proud of all they have achieved in their first term. They have worked extremely hard and accomplished many wonderful things, and this week has been no exception.
The children sang and read beautifully as part of our Advent Service at church and also led our Christmas Mass wonderfully and reverently – well done to everyone involved. They also represented St Wulstan’s superbly when they visited a local care home to spread some Christmas cheer by singing beautiful carols. Staff and residents commented on how well-behaved the children were and how angelic they sounded!
Afterwards, the children were treated to some lovely festive treats, which they thoroughly enjoyed.
The children really should be proud of everything they have achieved this term and throughout 2025. Miss McGowan is extremely proud of them and would like to wish all the children and their families a wonderful and restful Christmas break. She would also like to say thank you for your kindness and generosity for the lovely cards and gifts received. We all look forward to welcoming the children back in the New Year, ready to achieve even more amazing things in 2026!
