Message from Mrs Brocklesby
Dear Parents, as the weather is forecast to be very hot for the next week or so, could you please ensure that your child has sun cream applied before they come to school and that they remember to bring a sun hat and water bottle. Our playgrounds have water fountains so that the children can have access to water on a regular basis.
We are delighted to inform you that a number of our Year 3 children will be celebrating a very special milestone in their faith journey — their First Holy Communion at 10 am on Sunday at Saint Wulstan's Church
This sacred occasion marks an important step in your child's spiritual growth. We invite all families to attend and share in this joyous celebration.
On Sunday, we will celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi, a special day in the Catholic Church that honors the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. "Corpus Christi" means "Body of Christ" in Latin.
It’s a time for us to remember and give thanks for the gift of Holy Communion.
We encourage everyone to talk about the meaning of the Eucharist and the joy of sharing in Jesus’ love.
A huge thank you to the PTA for organising a fabulous Summer Fair—your hard work and creativity made it a wonderful day for all! I would also like to give a big shoutout to Mr. Tasker for a fantastic Sports Day—so much fun was had by everyone!"
Message from Mrs Warnett
Reception and Year 1
Reception and Year 1 have had another action-packed week, which began with a very warm and sunny Sports Day on Monday. We are incredibly proud of how well the children participated in all the activities—they showed fantastic effort, teamwork, and enthusiasm!
In history, the children have continued exploring the themes of equality and fairness. This week, they learned about Martin Luther King Jr. and the historic March on Washington. Inspired by his famous speech, the children even wrote their own wonderful versions of “I Have a Dream”—a truly thoughtful and inspiring activity!
Year 2 and 3
On Sports Day, the children had a wonderful time exploring roller ball, javelin and long jump activities as well as their races. It was wonderful to see the pupils being supportive of each other and enjoying exercise for fun as well as being competitive. In English, the class have worked hard to research the Ancient Egyptians, linked to their recent history work. They have learnt about the features of a non-chronological text and used their knowledge to create some beautiful posters! Many of the children needed to join several A3 pages together to showcase all the information that they had learnt! Ask a Year 2/3 for a fun fact about Ancient Egypt and see what they can tell you! Reading 'Horrible Histories: Awful Egyptians' helped give the children lots of information as well as reading for pleasure. The children were able to use their knowledge of alliteration from this book to create fun subheadings on their posters. We look forward to sharing them with the rest of the school! In computing, the class have started learning about spreadsheets and have been creating their own formulas to make their own.
Year 4
Year 4 have had an excellent week embracing being active and working as part of a team. On Monday, the children took part in Sports Day and it was so wonderful to see every child challenge themselves, show determination and supportive each other in such a positive way. On Tuesday, we continued being active with our fun session with Kidderminster Harriers. The children explored some skills with different activities and then took part in some small sided matches to finish. Again, it was lovely to see the support and enthusiasm showed by the children during this session. In computing this week, the children researched the positive and negative impacts Artificial Intelligence can have on some aspects of our lives. The knowledge shared and questions asked by the children really impressed Mr Tasker and Mrs Gibson. In science, the children started their new unit of classifying animals. The children enjoyed recapping some of the key language used in previous years and researching some of the animals found in the key animal groups such as mammals. Rehearsals are underway for the Year 6 production and the children are embracing their songs for the play. The children will continue to work on these over the next few weeks and are encouraged to do the same at home. Next week, Year 4 are looking forward to their workshop with the Wildlife Trust which will see them use their classifying skills to group animals found a pond habitat and they will also create some bold collages themed around insects.
Year 5
Year 5 started the week participating in a very successful Sports Day, where every single member of the class approached the day with a great energy and team spirit, something to be very proud of. Following on form this, a number of the children were also a fabulous help for the KS1 sports day and others super helpers in preparing for the Summer Fete. After a busy Monday, Year 5 have not slowed down! This week, they have started to read their new text, ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar and are loving the story so far, finishing the week by writing about an encounter with a deadly yellow spotted lizard! In maths, the children have been continuing with the work on decimals, this week focusing on how we multiply and divide decimal numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. As Scientists, the children have been learning about the life cycles of amphibians, insects and birds and considering the similarities and differences between these. This week the children also began sewing their stuffed creatures. Although this was quite challenging, there was much success and the toys are now ready to be stuffed and embellished next week.
Year 6
This week Year 6 children took part in an exciting Harriers session where they practised fundamental football skills, including passing, dribbling and teamwork. Alongside improving their physical abilities, the session also focused on educating the children on making healthy food choices. They learned how nutrition plays a vital role in supporting both general health and sporting performance. They also learned about balanced meals and how they can enhance stamina. In Science, the children learned about the differences between legal and illegal drugs and how they can affect their bodies and minds. They explored how certain chemicals in these substances can change the way people feel, think and behave. Year 6 ended the week with a visit to St Mary’s College in Oscott, a seminary where they learned about vocations and the important role of priests in the Catholic Church. The children had the opportunity to explore the beautiful grounds, ask thoughtful questions and gain a deeper understanding of how some people are called to serve God and others through the priesthood. The children enjoyed the day and their behaviour was impeccable throughout. The seminarians were particularly impressed, commenting on how knowledgeable, respectful and polite the children were. They truly made themselves, their families and the school incredibly proud. A special thank you to the readers and to those who led the offertory with such confidence and reverence.
