Message from Mrs Brocklesby

Next Friday 27th September our Minnie Vinnies will be organising their first event. They will be hosting a cake and coffee afternoon in school at 2.45pm. It will be a great way to enjoy tasty treats and support people living with cancer. Please try to support us.

The Year 6 children spent a morning today delivering brilliant presentations for the roles of House Captains and Sports Captains. They all put forward wonderfully thought out points with the aim of convincing children  to vote for them. We were all very proud of those children who stood before their peers and presented, showing courage and determination. Please see the below the photographs of the elected House and Sports Captains.

Weekly Round Up From Mrs Warnett

The children in Reception and Year 1 have been looking at creating different types of lines in their art lessons. This week they listened to a piece of music and then created a large-scale piece of art in response to the music. The children were asked to draw lines to represent water using different media. After each group had finished their piece, the children identified the different types of lines they could see in their pictures and talked about what they liked about each group's artwork. The children are looking forward to their art lesson next week where they will explore different media.

Year 2 and 3 have been developing their teamwork and other personal skills during our OAA unit of work in PE. This week, the children have enjoyed solving some brain-teasers and problem solving challenges in teams. Some of the games have been repeated across the week and it was wonderful to see how much improvement the children showed in their strategies and thinking. It was also lovely to see how well the children bonded as teams-working together under pressure without any disagreements. Well done children, this was lovely to see! The children have started some new learning in history and geography on Bournville, as part of our work on local areas. The children were excited to receive a letter about an exciting workshop on this that will be taking place in October. Watch this space for further exciting news on this topic work!

Year 4: Year 4 have had a great week and have been impressing Mr Tasker with their questions and understanding. In RE lessons, the children spread joy throughout the classroom by sharing wonderful qualities their friends have and how they are made in the image and likeness of God. They also recognised Abram from previously learnt Bible stories and enjoyed learning about his links to Judaism. In history, the children looked at the terms 'settler' and 'settlement' and were able to understand why Britain was such an important place for people to settle in history. Swimming lessons started back up this afternoon and the children really impressed Mr Tasker with their resilience when asked to adapt which swimming aids they used and how confident they were in the water. Year 4 look forward to developing this even further over the next few weeks and months.

Year 5: It has been a great week in Year 5 and the children have been working very hard. In PE, the children had to work together to solve problems. It was very tricky, but with excellent communication skills, encouragement and support, the children demonstrated success in the tasks set. In maths, the children have been developing their knowledge of place value and have been ordering and comparing numbers up to 1,000,000! The children have also been learning about sliders and levers in DT in preparation for starting to make their pop up books next week. Year 5 also had a great music lesson with Mrs Mallinson and have started to learn a Blues song. Mrs Tasker will also start her hunt for the next round of librarians next week, so get ready Year 5! Stat thinking about the qualities and skills you have that would make you perfect for the job!

Year 6: The Year 6 children have had a busy week. They started the week analysing and understanding of the structure of the Bible and the forms of literature that are found in the different books.  The children have learnt that the Bible is a library of books rather than one book and it is broken up into different sections. In Maths, they have been busy reading and writing numbers up to 10 million and comparing integers. In Geography, they have naming and locating the different rainforests on a world map. In Computing, the Year 6 children have been learning about how digital footprint will leave a trail online to show their behaviour and how this can have a negative impact. To end the week, they read their house captain speeches to all the children in school and they should be very proud of themselves. Congratulations to all the winners! Year 6, your have worked hard - keep it up!
