Message from Mrs Brocklesby -
During our final Mass of the term we celebrated the commitment and dedication of Mrs Portman and Mrs Harris to Saint Wulstan's School. They are leaving
us to move on to new ventures. We thank both Mrs Portman and Mrs Harris for all their hard work and we wish them well as they move on to their new posts.
The Christmas term is always so busy, but also a real joy. It is always so beautiful to spend this time of year in the company of youngsters; with the building excitement and looming gifts from Santa, tinsel hanging from their hair and Christmas songs ringing out. I truly do love it.
However, as an adult we also know that this can be a really difficult time for individuals and families, for a whole host of reasons. This is when a community must (and should) come together to support each other. If you are finding anything difficult at this time; please reach out—to school, or to the community. Remember that we are here to love and serve all our families, and if I can help in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me.
As always, the pupils have been working really hard. On behalf on everyone at Saint Wulstan's, I would like to wish you and your family a Happy and Holy Christmas, filled with love and good health and I look forward to welcoming you all back in 2025!
In January we welcome Mrs Gall who will be teaching Year 1 and Mr Dudley who will be joining our Year 2/3 team. In January we will be inviting year 1, 2 and 3 families into school to meet Mrs Gall and Mr Dudley. I know they are both looking forward to teaching at Saint Wulstan's.
I am delighted to inform you that Saint Wulstan's has achieved the LiveSimply Award. Pupils and staff have achieved the LiveSimply Award validating they are living simply, sustainably, and in solidarity with the world's poorest communities. I would like to thank Mrs Freitas who led the initiative ensuring we achieved the award reaching the highest standard. WELL DONE EVERYONE!
Message from Mrs Warnett
Reception and Year 1 have enjoyed a festive yet busy week! It was lovely to see so many families join us at the start of the week for the Christmas story and cookies morning, they children loved the Polar Express Day and Party Day was another huge success especially when a special visitor dropped in! We wish you all a Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you again in the New Year.
Year 2 and 3 have had a wonderful last week of term! They have enjoyed some exciting Advent Calendar activities, including a festive treasure hunt, some Christmas tree games, elf-names and finally Christmas crackers to send us off for the holidays today. The children loved sharing a Beatrix Potter Christmas story with family members on Tuesday for 'Christmas Tales and Cookies' on Tuesday, making lots of links to other Beatrix Potter stories that they had read and showing some great inference skills. The children then enjoyed a cosy day in their pyjamas for Polar Express Day. The children had a wonderful time celebrating on Party Day and especially enjoyed the pass the parcel! We wish everyone a relaxing Christmas break.
Year 4
What an end to the term! Year 4 have been really busy and kept going all the way to the end of the day today. On Monday, the children sang beautifully and read confidently during the Advent Service at church. Mr Tasker was particularly pleased with how mature and reverently the children behaved through the whole service. The children all spoke about how lovely it was sharing Christmas stories and our class text on Tuesday for 'Christmas Tales and Cookies' with family members, a big 'thank you' from Year 4 for all those who joined us. The class had a really lovely day yesterday for Party Day. They enjoyed listening to Christmas songs, playing party games, eating their sausage and chips and they loved their new books from Father Christmas. Finally, as is tradition at the end of the Autumn Term, the children shared their toys and games today in a kind and respectful way. Having finished the day with a Christmas sing-along, they are ready for a restful and excitement break. We wish you all a very happy Christmas!
Year 5
After a long and busy term, Year 5 have got to their well deserved break! This week has been no exception and the children started the week taking part in the KS2 Advent Service. All the teachers were so proud to see the children read and sing so beautifully, a really lovely way to end the year and celebrate this special season. In class, we have had an arty week, creating our beautiful stained glass effect Christmas cards and 2025 Calendars. The children also got very creative when designing and making their spectacular Christmas hats, it seems that a tall hat was this year’s fashion trend! It was also wonderful to see so many grown ups join us for Christmas stories and Cookies on Tuesday, the children then loved their popcorn and movie afternoon. What a wonderful week and a fabulous way to end 2024. Have a restful break Year 5 and come back ready to work hard and achieve amazing things in 2025!
Year 6
The autumn term has been very busy, and the Year 6 children have worked exceptionally hard. Not only did they have to settle in quickly, but their days have also been packed with a variety of lessons. Every child has fully embraced Year 6, showing resilience, enthusiasm, and a commitment to their learning. They have celebrated numerous achievements with a sense of pride and teamwork. This week, the children have been focused on finalising their assessments, reflecting on the progress they've made throughout the term. They've also been wrapping up their engaging Rainforest and Mayan topics, with some impressive projects and presentations showcasing their hard work. In addition, they’ve enjoyed designing and making their Christmas cards, which have added a festive touch to the classroom. Another exciting highlight of the term has been their Design and Technology project. The children have worked diligently on designing and building playground structures, using a range of materials and techniques. They’ve demonstrated great problem-solving skills and teamwork as they brought their ideas to life, creating models that reflect both their creativity and engineering abilities. As the term draws to a close, Year 6 can be proud of all they've accomplished and they are ready for the exciting challenges that the new year will bring. Have a happy and holy Christmas Year 6! See you all in the New Year!
The staff would like to express their thanks for all the kind gifts and Christmas wishes.
Peggy would like to wish all the children a very happy Christmas!
