Message from Mrs Brocklesby

This week I have attended two key events that celebrate the achievements of our children.

Firstly I attended a writing moderation meeting with Mrs Freitas to moderate the achievements of our Year Six pupils. I am delighted to inform you all our judgements were agreed and the quality of every child's work was praised. This is down to the hard work of the Year Six team and every member of staff, every child and every parent/guardian. THANK YOU

Today I attended the Reception Class Mass. During Mass I witnessed for my self the wonderful community we have at Saint Wulstan's. The Reception children were supported by family members, staff and children from years 3-6. Father Richard also praised the children for their responses, reading and reverence. He also reminded us Jesus is always there for us and we can ask for help in our prayers.

WELL DONE EVERYONE

Weekly Round Up From Mrs Warnett

Reception - 21.6.24
This week the children in Reception have enjoyed having Mass in their classroom. The children sat and listened so reverently and said their prayers with confidence. The staff were very proud of everyone. The children have also enjoyed a football session with Kidderminster Harriers this week. They loved learning some new ball skills and impressed staff with how well they engaged with the session.

Key Stage 1 21.6.24

Key Stage 1 have really enjoyed their English lessons which have been based on the book Dread cat! In Science, Year 1 have been recapping their knowledge on animal groups whilst Year 2 have been looking at micro habitats.  In Geography, they have been looking at the characteristics  of the countries of the United Kingdom.  They had great fun in PE this week practising standing long jump. In Art, they used their knowledge of creating secondary colours to do some observational painting.

Year 3

Year 3 have continued developing their athletic skills this week, looking at the skills required for the high and long jump. The children learnt how to use their arms for jumping and how to use an arc shaped run up in the high jump to help them jump sideways on. We were very impressed by the bravery of the children and how quick they were to ask their group members to raise the jump ropes to provide more challenge! It was also lovely, as always, to see how supportive the children are of each other, cheering each other on.

The children have written some beautiful acrostic poems this week, thinking carefully about their word choices. The children were able to use dictionaries to help them, but also showed a great range of vocabulary knowledge of their own to prompt their thinking. Well done!

In Computing, the children have been learning how to email. It has been lovely for the staff to have received emails from pupils via our Purple Mash learning platform. Lots of emojis were sent, as you can imagine!

The class have also enjoyed some rather gruesome work on mummification as part of their History work on Ancient Egypt. Using 'Horrible Histories' as inspiration and for information (rather than trying it themselves!), the class have written detailed instructions. They have worked hard to include fronted adverbials and the features of an instruction text in their writing.

Year 4

This week Year 4 have been developing their athletics skills by learning to develop their jumping techniques. Once the children had explored different types of jumping, they applied their knowledge to try and consistently use the 'scissor kick' technique in high jump. In this week's class liturgy, a group of children created PowerPoints to support their delivery. The children really impressed with the content and delivery of their liturgy. In science, the children began looking at some key organs and functions of the human digestive system. The children had lots of interesting questions and found lots of facts linked to this topic. Today, the children started to design and make their torches in D&T. They have really developed their social and technical skills over the year and are working more consistently in their collaborative work. Finally, the children were treated to ice lollies for all their hard work preparing for their Times Table Test last week. Thank you for all your hard work!

This week Year 5 have been learning about the Viking invasions of England and the impact this had on the Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms at the time. They have also started to write their biography all about Harriet Tubman. In maths, they children came to the end of their unit on negative numbers. They have worked so hard on this unit and have been able to answer many tricky reasoning questions using their knowledge of these numbers. In RE, the children have been finding out about the Sacraments of Marriage and Holy Orders. As part of this, the children found out about Archbishop Bernard Longley and his role in the Diocese. Miss McGowan was also very proud of the Year 5 Mini Vinnies who supported Reception during their Mass. Thank you and well done Mireya, Rupert, Roxy and Isla.

Year 6
This week Year 6 have been busy preparing for Confirmation. In R.E., the children have learnt that Confirmation is the sacrament that completes Baptism; in it the gift of the Holy Spirit is bestowed upon them. This sacrament is called Confirmation because the faith given in Baptism is now confirmed and made strong. During Baptism, parents and godparents make promises to renounce Satan and believe in God and the Church on the child’s behalf. At Confirmation, those same promises are renewed, this time the child is speaking for themselves. The children also had the opportunity to analyse the meaning of the words in the promises.  This year Year 6 were selected for writing moderation by the local authority. The moderator analysed standard of writing across Year 6 and she commended the “significant amount of quality writing” that she was able to look at. The children have worked very hard on their writing and Mrs Freitas couldn't be prouder. To end the week, Year 6 were delighted when they realised the scripts for the Year 6 play had arrived. They have been busy auditioning and rehearsals will start next Monday. More details to follow soon.

Sports Day: Thank you to all of our parents who contributed to the Sports Day survey. We can confirm that Sports Day will be on Tuesday 16 July between 9:00am and 12:30pm. More details to follow!

Weekly Mass
Reception had their first class Mass. The Mini Vinnies were fabulous role models (and faith friends) to Reception and Reception were exceptional in showing reverence and respect during this very special time of prayer! Thank you to Father Richard for celebrating Mass in school this week. A special thank you to Mrs Harris, Mrs Portman and Mrs Freeman for preparing the children so well.

Mini Vinnies Fundraising
A few weeks ago, these two Mini Vinnies suggested a new fundraising initiative. The girls were hoping to create some bracelets and sell them to their school friends for 50p each. Not only was their fundraising successful, but they have managed to raise £60.00. The chosen charity is 'Make a Wish'. This charity provides critically ill children with life-changing wishes. Thank you to our Mini Vinnies for giving up their time and resources to create the bracelets. Thank you for your kindness!⭐️
A very special thank you to all the boys and girls for purchasing the bracelets. This fundraising event wouldn't have been successful without your support!
