FORMING CHRIST CENTERED PILGRIMS OF HOPE
This week we’re building on the strong start to the year, with key activities underway. Thank you to everyone for the continued energy and commitment, it has been great to see such positive momentum across the school. Saint Wulstan’s Day was a wonderful way for our whole school community to come together and celebrate our feast day. The children enjoyed taking part in special activities, learning about our Patron Saint, and sharing in the joy of this important day.
This week we’d like to remind everyone how important it is to be in school on time. Being on time means you can join in from the very start and make the most of all the exciting lessons and activities planned for the day. It also helps everyone settle in quickly, keeps the day running smoothly. Thank you for helping us make sure every child can enjoy everything school has to offer. You will be receiving a letter soon with more information about our inclusive attendance approach and how we can work together to support all children in coming to school regularly and on time.
I am delighted to inform you that Mr. Pitt is now the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCO) across both Saint Wulstan’s and Saint Ambrose.
Mr. Pitt brings a wealth of experience supporting children with a wide range of learning needs. He will work closely with teachers, support staff, and families to ensure every child receives the individual guidance and support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
As SENDCO, Mr. Pitt will:
Oversee and coordinate support for pupils with additional needs across both schools.
Work with staff to develop personalised learning plans and strategies.
Support families in understanding the school’s SEND provision and accessing external resources when needed.
Serve as a key point of contact for any questions or concerns regarding special educational needs.
If you would like to discuss your child’s needs or arrange a meeting, please contact Mr. Pitt via email at dpitt@emmausmac.com. He is available to meet on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.

Reception
Reception have had a very busy and special week!
On Monday, the children came together in their houses to celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Wulstan, enjoying a creative afternoon of arts and crafts. In English, the children have been enjoying the story Dear Zoo and wrote letters to the zoo to request animals they would like to have in class. In RE, they explored the topic of Baptism, looking at items associated with it and comparing a modern baptism with the baptism of Jesus. In Science, the children described the properties of different materials and suggested suitable uses for them. In Maths, they explored circles and triangles, while in PE they practised their throwing and catching skills. The children also enjoyed learning about birds this week in preparation for our bird survey next week as part of the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch. In Forest School, they created bird biscuits to help attract more birds. Reception were also inspired by a visit from Olympic judoka Nekoda Smythe-Davies and enjoyed demonstrating their skills to her.
Well done, Reception!
Year 1 and 2
Year 1 and 2 have had a busy week again this week. In English, they have been enjoying the story 'Where the Wild Things Are' and enjoyed pretending to be Max in their diary entries. In maths, the children have been using base ten to add and subtract some very big numbers. Well done! In DT, the Year 1 and 2s have been developing designs for moving monsters. This week, they started making their final creations. They look wonderful! In history, the class have been learning about James Brindley as part of their local history work. They wrote fascinating fact files on him, showing what they have been learning. To finish the week, the class took part in a multi-skills workshop with Olympic judoka Nekoda Smythe-Davies.
Year 3 and Year 4
This week, the children composed a winter themed poems containing interesting adverbs and adjectives. The children drew upon their recent experiences of snow and used images of snow scenes to produce some lovely descriptive pieces of work. In maths, the children started looking at written strategies for multiplication and have been using these strategies to complete mathematical problems. At Forest School, the children came across the elusive fairies and stumbled into an area covered in fairy breath. They then gathered these breaths to create fairy friendship bands by working with a partner. In art, the children used black and white paint to create 'tints' and 'shades' by adding it in small amounts to yellow, red and blue. The children began looking at states of matter in science, grouping objects and materials into solids, liquids and gases. Finally, the children rounded off a busy Friday by completing their physical activity with our Olympic visitor Nekoda Smythe-Davies. It was really lovely seeing the children but lots of effort in to complete the activities but support each other along the way. Well done!
Year 5
Year 5 had a great week packed with lots of exciting learning.
In Maths, the children have started a new unit on multiplication and division. They kicked the week off by learning how to tackle long division and showed real focus and determination when trying out new methods.
This week also marked St Wulstan’s feast day. Year 5 spent time learning about his life and wrote their own prayers to St Wulstan. The children showed wonderful reverence and reflection, and their thoughtful prayers were a real highlight.
In RE, Year 5 are beginning a new unit on Baptism. The children have shown lots of interest as they start to explore what baptism means and why it is important.
In English, the class have been reading The Way Back Home, focusing on setting, atmosphere and character description. The children have worked hard to use modifiers and figurative language to bring their descriptions to life and really engage their readers.
On Friday, the children enjoyed a special visit from Nekoda Davis, who shared her journey through judo. The visit was inspiring and encouraged the children to think about perseverance and working hard to achieve their goals.
Well done, Year 5 – keep up the great work!
Year 6
This week, Year 6 have completed their learning on ratio and proportion in maths, using their knowledge and skills to solve a range of challenging problems. In science, the children explored what it means to live a healthy lifestyle and investigated the impact this has on our bodies.
In history, the children continued their World War II studies by learning about rationing, why it was introduced, and how it affected people’s everyday lives. They impressed Miss McGowan by thinking like historians and asking thoughtful, insightful questions. In RE, the children reflected on the first prayer they ever learned before studying a range of traditional prayers, considering their purpose and meaning.
In art, the children began learning about different artists, with a focus this week on David Hockney. They explored his painting My Parents and even recreated their own photographic versions inspired by the artwork. In English, Year 6 have started reading Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman, which has already prompted lots of discussion and thoughtful reflection.
This week has also been particularly special as we spent time in our Houses celebrating St Wulstan. The Year 6 Sports Crew also had the exciting opportunity to support our visiting athlete, Nekoda Smythe-Davies. They did a fantastic job supporting the event and encouraging other children throughout the day. Well done, Year 6!
Year 6 Booster
This week, children in Year 6 will have received letters inviting them to booster learning sessions in preparation for KS2 SATS. These sessions will start next week. Miss McGowan and Mrs Warnett will be delivering the afterschool sessions. Miss McGowan will review the sessions after half term and these may change as we get closer to SATS. This will be communicated by letter.
These sessions are there to give our children even more support as they head towards the end of KS2. If you have any questions regarding these, please do not hesitate to contact Miss McGowan. We thank you all for your continued support.
