Message from Mrs Warnett
Reception
This week, the Reception children have been learning all about the Hindu celebration of Diwali. They enjoyed creating and decorating their own diva lamps, designing beautiful mendhi hand patterns, and exploring the traditions behind this special festival. In phonics, the children have worked incredibly hard and have now learned all of the Set 1 sounds. They are beginning to blend these sounds to read and write simple words — a fantastic achievement! In maths, the focus has been on grouping objects and comparing them to see whether the groups are equal, or if one has more or fewer.
KS1
Year 1 and 2 have been enjoying learning about Hinduism this week. The children learnt about Hindu weddings and Diwali. The children especially enjoying creating natural rangoli patterns outside. The children enjoyed visiting Year 3 and 4 to help them test their instruction writing skills. The children listened carefully to instructions to try to create an electrical circuit. The class were thrilled when they managed to successfully light their bulb. Thank you to Year 3 and 4 for being such super teachers and instruction writers! In science, the class have been learning about growing up and had a visit from a toddler this week! The children asked lots of interesting questions and enjoyed sharing their own knowledge of toddlers and babies. Well done!
Year 3 / Year 4
This week, the children have been learning about Hinduism in their lessons. Firstly, the children looked at the origins of the faith with the story of Rama and Sita and acted this out very enthusiastically. The children then researched the religious festivals of Holi, Navaratri and Diwali, created art and crafts linked to these special events. Finally, the children researched some of the symbols and their meanings linked to Hinduism and how these help individuals follow their faith. In maths, the children have been working hard on their written methods for adding and subtracting, using place value charts, column additions and subtraction to complete calculations. In writing, the children have written instructions to build a simple electrical circuits and shared these with the Year 1 and Year 2 children this morning. The children were able to assess the accuracy of their instructions and edit any work. Well done!
Year 5
Year 5 have had a very busy and productive final week of the term! The children have consolidated their learning in science by completing their end-of-unit assessment on materials. They have demonstrated their fantastic scientific understanding, using careful observation skills to describe different states of matter, explain irreversible and reversible changes, and reflect on the exciting experiments they have carried out throughout the term. In maths, Year 5 have worked extremely hard exploring prime and square numbers, showing great perseverance and enthusiasm. In English, the children have applied their historical knowledge of the Mayans to produce engaging and informative non-chronological reports. They have focused on the key features of this text type and discussed what makes a report both clear and captivating for the reader. What a fantastic half term it has been – Year 5, you should all be very proud of your hard work and achievements. Well done!
Year 6
Well done Year 6 for completing your first half term and for working so hard throughout! This week, you have had the opportunity to demonstrate all that you have learnt through your end of unit assessments. From talking about the changes that happened in Britain through the Industrial Revolution to applying the chiaroscuro technique to create a powerful piece of art, to showing all that you have learnt about light and the eye – you should all be so proud of all that you have achieved. It has also been a week where it has been really clear to see you all stepping in to that Year 6 leadership role. Part of that, was a number of children taking part in the Wellbeing Champions or Sports Leader training – roles that we know you will be wonderful at. After half term, we look forward to Jumping Jacks training, where Year 6 will be able to support younger pupils with lunchtime games. This week the children also had the opportunity to learn about Hinduism. Year 6 really enjoyed learning about the story of Creation and the importance of the River Ganges. Well done also to a number Year 6 pupils who represented St Wulstans as part of the Wyre Forest Schools Sports Partnership Football Festival – it sounds like it was a wonderful experience.
