Following on from feedback from a number of parents regarding concerns over parking due to a number of schools in a close proximity. I would like to organise a safer walk to, and from school for our children and families. One idea I have is to organise a walking bubble by parking just 5 minutes away from school and allowing children to walk, scoot or cycle.

One reason for this is we are continuing to witness and receive notifications from local residents and parents about cars parked unsafely and on double yellow lines and zig-zags on both mornings and after school. By doing this, you are endangering the lives of our children and families! Please be considerate of others and park legally in a safe area.

Please can you email ebrocklesby@emmausmac.com if you would be willing to help establish a walking bubble.

In the meantime, I urge you to park safely and thank you for your support.

The Starting Well Partnership is organising an event on Tuesday 21 November at Wolverley Memorial Hall, Kidderminster (DY11 5TN), from 9am-12pm, where parents and carers of school aged children can receive advice and support. If you can't make the event but would like support, you can contact the organisation by phoning 01562 827207 or emailing: admin.wyreforest@barnardos.org.uk.

Weekly Round Up From Mrs Warnett

Reception: This week the children in Reception have had their first multi skills session with Sonny from the local school sports partnership. The children had lots of fun developing gross motor skills, team work and exploring different ways of moving. Reception have also been focussing on people who help them in the community. This week their focus has been nurses and they started their learning by finding out about a very famous nurse from the past; Florence Nightingale. The children were surprised to hear about what hospitals were like in the past; and couldn't believe that electricity hasn't always been around! Inspired by Florence and her lamp, the children made their own lamps during their provision time which required them to use lots of key skills.

KS1 Children in Key Stage 1 began their multi-skills sessions as part of PE this week, their first session was all about archery, the children had a great time firing their arrows at the targets.  In Design and Technology, the children had to use their problem solving skills to work out why some of the wheels wouldn't turn. In English, the children have been focusing on Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak and they completed their Star Write on Thursday. Their Star Write this week was absolutely fantastic with lots of different sentence starters and type of punctuation; KS1 staff are very proud of you! Well done children!

Year 3 have worked really hard this week. They have all produced some amazing work in English, adding speech to their retelling of The Hare and The Tortoise. In PE the children’s new topic is dance. They have been creating a series of actions and then working out how then can travel between these actions to create a dance. The children have shown great confidence in performing their dances in front of one another. In Science, Year 3 are continuing with their topic of nutrition and diet. This week the children learned about why it is important to eat foods that contain proteins, carbohydrates, dairy, fats, fruit and vegetables and what these all provide the body with.

Year 4 have enjoyed a creative and reflective week, having the opportunity to express themselves using collage materials in rt and looking at the key features of the 'fauvist' style. In PHSE, the children have looked at the importance of 'Making a Noise' to combat bullying and unkindness in schools. The children designed their own odd socks which helped them understand the importance of respecting people's differences and developed their understanding of the terms 'bullying' and 'banter'. In English, the children have continued working hard to compose and punctuate speech sentences correctly and in maths the children have been using their times tables knowledge to answer questions and complete word problems. Year 4 particularly enjoyed gathering, presenting and analysing data collected about tree species found around the school. Great effort, everyone!

This week Year 5 have been developing their DT skills by starting to create a book that has pop ups and moving parts. It was not easy, but with focus and determination, the children could start to see their work coming together, which was very exciting! Year 5 have also been continuing their creative writing and have written beautiful descriptive soundscapes in their English lessons this week. In maths, they have started to investigate fractions and the children are really starting to see how when their teachers say that tables knowledge is important, it really is! They have discovered that if you know your times tables really well, then finding equivalent fractions is made so much easier!

Year 6 children are very excited because they have started their coding lessons. This week the aim was to make a more complex program by designing a playable game with a timer and a score. Then the children had to plan, use selection and variables and understand how the launch command works. Most of them could debug when things do not run as expected. In Art, have been studying Fenelon’s work and how he is inspired by Maya art and interprets this using his own modern style. Within his canvas, he fills the space with patterns, colours and symbols that interest him to create an aesthetically pleasing piece of art. The children have been designing their own Mayan patterns by generating a range of symbols and colours that represent themselves. They were encouraged to draw in a way that pleases them, selecting tools and materials they enjoy using, allowing them to add a personal style to their work. Well done, Year 6!

Anti-Bullying Week

This week has been Anti-Bullying Week and the theme is Make A Noise About Bullying. The children came into school wearing odd socks. Children and staff came to school in their usual school uniform/clothing, with the fabulous addition of wearing odd socks! We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that participated, helping to celebrate an Anti-Bullying Culture at our school.
