Message from Mrs Brocklesby -

As ever, it has been a very hectic (but very enjoyable) first half term. The children are all committed to their learning and are making great strides forward both academically and socially. We are all so proud of them and look forward to seeing you all at parents evening after half term to discuss your child's progress and their next steps.
I would also like to thank you for all your continued support.

Today I would like to thank everyone for wearing green to raise money in support of the Little People UK charity. Children and staff came to school in non uniform with green being the colour of support.

Little People UK offers friendship and support to everyone. It is fondly known as,

thebigcharityforlittlepeople

Father Richard joined us today to celebrate Mass with Year 4 and their Families. I would like to thank Mr Tasker and Year 4 who prepared and led Mass.

The theme of the Mass was ,'Love Everyone.' and this is a wonderful message for us all during half term.

Mrs Warnett's round up

Reception / Year 1 - This week the children in Reception have been enjoying the story of 'The Little Red Hen'. The children have been learning to re-tell the story through the use of song and have been amazing the staff with their developing writing skills as they have been drawing and writing about the characters in the story. The children have also had a go at baking bread - just like the Little Red Hen! They enjoyed seeing what happened to the flour when water was added and worked hard to knead the dough really well. The children were all very excited to have made their own bread rolls and are very keen to make more at home!

Year 1 -

What a splendid afternoon our pupils had on Tuesday as they ventured into the enchanting world of toys from the past, courtesy of an engaging workshop led by Hartlebury Museum!
The classroom was filled with excitement as the children explored an array of delightful toys, transporting them back in time. They eagerly took part in activities to sort the toys in chronological order and investigate what materials they were made from. From the charm of original toys to the fascinating world of reproductions, every moment was filled with fun and learning!
It was a joy to see their imaginations come alive as they played with these historical treasures. We're incredibly grateful to Hartlebury Museum for providing our pupils with this enriching experience.

Year 2 and 3 have been working hard to write instructions to make Mr Jeremy Fisher a delicious, slimy soup! They children thought hard to ensure that they used a range of features needed for an instruction text, including starting to use colons for Year 3 children (and some Year 2s!). The children are very excited to hear that someone's super writing may have earnt them a place on 'gold' on the Zone Board. Wait until after half term to find out who! In French, some children have very kindly brought in French books from home which we have enjoyed sharing. In geography, the children have been learning about compass points as they develop their understanding of position and direction. They have enjoyed using this knowledge in warm-up games as they carry on learning about tag rugby in PE. In tag rugby, the children have learnt about pocket passes and how to overlap as they pass the ball as a team. Today, the children enjoyed wearing green to support Dwarfism Awareness Day. Well done! We hope that the children have a well-deserved rest over half term. We look forward to an exciting day of DT on the first day back as the children create their final designs of healthy wraps. We also hope to find out whether someone made it to 'gold' on the Zone Board! Exciting times ahead!

Year 4 ended a busy half term with a lovely Mass this morning. The theme of the Mass was 'Love Everyone' and it has been so lovely to see how much the children have helped and supported each other this year. Mr Tasker was also really impressed with the children's confidence when reading and how confidently they said the responses. In geography this week, the children looked at the end of points of rivers and whether they flowed into lakes, seas, oceans or other rivers. The children researched some of the world's longest rivers and had lots of interesting things to say about how these rivers ended. The children worked in groups during their history lesson this week and were tasked with developing their chronological understanding by sequencing events from the Roman occupation of Britain. Children used dates and season to put events in order and were beginning to recognise that some sections of the timeline had more events in others. In French, the children continued to work on their phonics sounds and pronunciations, listening very carefully and trying their best to speak and record these sounds in words. Keep up the great work!

Year 5
Year 5 have had such a busy half term, and this last week has been no different! Year 5 all wrote a beautiful letter as their star write. The children pretended that they were a father heading off to war, saying goodbye to their son. The children did such a wonderful job and were able to use figurative language to show how the father might have been feeling. The letters written were very moving and the children made such wonderfully vocabulary choices to express the emotions needed. In PE, Year 5 have started a new dance unit, thinking about dance through the ages and considering how dance trends have changed.
In DT, the children finally completed their pop-up books and shared them with a friend to evaluate. It has been 8 weeks of hard work, but the children should be very proud of all they have achieved. Well done Year 5 and keep up the good work!

Year 6
It's been a busy week for the Year 6 learners, filled with assessments and cultural explorations. As part of  Multi-Cultural Week, the children delved into the rich history and beliefs of Sikhism. They learned about its origins, key principles, and the significance of the ten gurus. They discussed reincarnation, mukti, and the special Naam Karan ceremony held at the gurdwara for newborn Sikh babies. They also explored the concept of langar, a communal kitchen where everyone is welcome to share a meal, regardless of their background. To conclude the first half of the Autumn term, the children researched and wrote non-chronological reports on the Amazon Rainforest. Mrs Freitas is incredibly proud of their hard work, perseverance and kindness. Year 6, have a wonderful and restful half-term!
