Please do come along to have a tour of the school and meet the staff. If you know of anyone who has a child due to start Reception next September, please let them know. Everyone is welcome to attend.
I would like to say a huge 'Thank you!' to everyone who supported our MacMillan coffee afternoon this year, by coming to enjoy coffee and cake with us in school. Our fundraising this year raised an amazing amount of £100. We are very proud of our Year 5 and 6 Minnie Vinnies who served the drinks and cake. I would also like to thank Mrs Freitas for organising the event and staff for donating the cakes. The atmosphere in school was lovely and it was great to see friends and families having time to chat.
I JUST WANTED TO MAKE YOU AWARE THAT FROM OCTOBER 14TH MARKS AND SPENCER'S WILL NO LONGER BE OUR UNIFORM PROVIDER.
I would also like to thank any parents who shared their views about the cost of uniforms. We are looking into sourcing a range of providers and will keep you updated.
Weekly Round Up From Mrs Warnett
This week Reception Class have been enjoying exploring the signs of Autumn. The children enjoyed collecting leaves and talking about the different colours they could see. Back in the classroom the children enjoyed using their leaves to create some autumn art.
Year 1 completed their first ‘Star Write’ this week. The children have been working very hard all week to re-tell the story of ‘Man on the Moon’. They said how much they enjoyed completing their final piece of writing on Thursday. The staff were thrilled with their effort and the work that the children produced. Well done Year 1 on a fantastic first Star Write!
Year 2 and 3 have worked so hard on their writing and impressed Mrs Tasker and Mrs Morgan so much with their retelling of 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit' that they decided more people needed to enjoy it too! The children have written up their stories as letters, just like Beatrix Potter used to do! They have tried really hard to edit their work to improve it and have then written their letters in their best handwriting. The children are learning how to address an envelope correctly and are looking forward to posting their letters next week. We can't wait to hear what our friends and family think of our wonderful writing!
Year 4 have had another great week. The children have been recalling the story of Abraham and Isaac in their RE lessons and are recognising God's relationship with people and the promises that are made by God to his people. In science, the children have continued developing their knowledge and skills while looking at the strength of vibrations and how they affect volume, and how pitch changes with different instruments. The children looked at different stages of the water cycle in geography lessons this week and recalled what happens at each stage. In D&T, the children looked at the words 'strong', 'stiff' and 'stable' by exploring different shapes and designs to build a simple structure. The children have been able to share their understanding of the terms 'settlers' and 'invaders' in their history lessons and are looking forward to learning about the Romans in more detail. Well done!
This week Year 5 have continued to develop their communication skills as part of their PE lessons through their topics of Tag Rugby and OAA. In music, the children continued their journey into learning about the blues. They thought about the origins of blues music and listened to a piece of music called The St Louis Blues. With careful listening skills, the children thought about what instruments they could hear and how the music made them feel. As geographers, the children continued to study the UK and discovered how the UK is divided into counties. In history, the children learnt all about the first Viking invasion at Lindisfarne and thought about how this invasion would have made people feel. Next week, as part of our celebration of poetry, Year 5 will be studying a performance poem about the invasion of Lindisfarne, as well as becoming poets themselves. To end the week, the children were asked to think about what we mean when we talk about the Kingdom of God and to give their own impressions and thoughts as to what it might be and what it might look like. The child had some really lovely and insightful thoughts, well done Year 5!
Year 6: Year 6 have been working hard and have shown Mrs Freitas how determined they are to do well in all lessons. In R.E. they have been learning about the lives of Old Testament characters and their relationship with God. In Geography, the children have focused on the different types of biomes by reading up on their on temperature, climate, geology, soil, and vegetation. In History, the children have been learning about the Maya which is an ancient civilisation that began long ago in a place called 'Mesoamerica'. This huge area is made up of Mexico and part of Central America. To end the week, in P.E., the children worked with a partner to navigate successfully across and through obstacles while blindfolded. the children were encouraged to the benefits of active listening and knowing how it differs from passive listening. It's been a great week, Year 6. keep it up!
