Message From Mrs Brocklesby

Pope Francis has designated today Friday 27th October as a day of prayer, fasting and penance for peace in troubled areas of our world. He is thinking especially of those caught up with the situation in Israel and Gaza. Please take this opportunity to come together as a family and pray for peace.

God of peace, bearer of hope,
we seek your help
for the people caught up in conflict.

Quiet the clamour of war
and guide us towards peace.

Where there is hatred and division
sow seeds of calm and openness.

Where there is destruction
help us to rebuild.

Where children are crying
bring an end to tears.

Shelter your peoples and protect them
Guide them and keep them from harm.

Show us how to break down the barriers of history and fear
and breathe whispers of hope.

Amen.
Linda Jones / CAFOD

I am delighted to let you know that Mrs Freitas and Mrs Tasker on her return after maternity leave have been appointed as Assistant Principal's. They are very excited about this role and are looking forward to further developing Saint Wulstan's School.

The Major of 'Snowport's Christmas Card Competition 2023

Calling all budding designers.  This is your chance to design the mayor's official Christmas card. The winning designer will also join the major to switch on the Christmas lights in Villeneuve-le-Roi gardens and then join Father Christmas to switch on the Civic Centre Christmas tree.  If your child would like to enter the competition, could their entry be returned to school on Monday 6 November, thank you.  Please remember to write your child's name on the design.

Weekly Round Up From Mrs Warnett

On Wednesday this week, we celebrated Dwarfism Awareness Day. The children came to school in non-uniform and together have raised £111.80 for Little People UK, a charity that provides support and information to people of short stature and their families. They are dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with dwarfism while celebrating with great pride, little people’s contribution to social diversity. The children and staff gathered for an assembly where they learnt about dwarfism and read a book called Mummy, There's a New Girl by Danielle Webb. Thank you everyone for taking part and for raising money for this worthwhile cause!

This week the children in Reception have been focusing on autumn and harvest. They have learnt the story of The Little Red Hen and have enjoyed retelling it in their own words and using storytelling actions. The children have also been looking at the work of Yayoi Kusama, a Japanese artist who creates art work using polka dots. The children have recreated one of her famous pieces of art - a polka dot pumpkin. They used a range of tools and materials to create their own wonderful pieces of art.

There was definitely something fishy happening in Key Stage 1 this week! As part of their Science topic, Animals including Humans, the children were learning all about features of fish.  It was so wonderful to watch as the children used scientific vocabulary as they made their observations. Well done Key Stage 1.

The final week of half term has been another busy one for Year 3. In Art, the children have learnt how to use rubbings to create a picture. The children used wax crayons to take rubbings on different textured surfaces. They then used the rubbings to create different pictures including plants and rainbows. In History the children have been comparing the differences between the Palaeolithic and Mesolithic periods of the Stone Age and the similarities and differences early humans had to face in each period.

On Tuesday, the children were visited by Charlotte from the Dogs Trust, an experience they thoroughly enjoyed.  They were taught what to do when approaching an unfamiliar dog and the differences/ similarities between the senses of a human and a dog. Well done Year 3 on working so hard this half term.

It has been a busy end to the half term in Year 4 this week. The children celebrated a wonderful Mass in their class this morning and impressed with their excellent reading skills and responses. Yesterday, the children used charcoal and rubbers in their art lesson to explore light and dark tones and proportion of objects next to each other. On Wednesday, the children had inter-house cross country runs to take part in. Great support, effort and resilience was shown by the children alongside earning house points for their houses. In French, the children have been learning new words and phrases liked to pets. It is always a real pleasure to see their enthusiasm and interest shared towards this subject. We would like to thank Charlotte from the Dogs Trust for such an engaging and informative session around how to be safe around dogs. The children were encouraged to share what they had learnt at home to spread some key messages with others. A great start to the year children, have a lovely half term!

It has also been a busy week in Year 5! This week the children took part in a cross country race with Year 4 and Year 6, have learnt all about prime, square and cube numbers and investigating the effects of water resistance in Science. The children also enjoyed their visit from Charlotte from the Dogs Trust and were able to use the knowledge they gained to create leaflets that would help inform others of how to be safe around dogs. A great half term Year 5, well done!

Year 6 have been working very hard this week. On Monday they had the Dogs Trust assembly and a workshop where they learnt all about how to keep safe and what they should do in a range of different scenarios! Charlotte was impressed with the answers provided by the Year 6 children. On Wednesday they took part in cross country trials. Mr Tasker prepared a shortened course and the children had to complete six laps. This was to prepare the children for the annual cross country competition that takes place later in the year. In History, the Year 6 children learnt about how the Mayan civilisation developed over time and they ordered events chronologically. In Geography, the Year 6 found out about the people and settlements of the rainforest and they compared life in the UK with life in a rainforest tribe.

November - Remembrance Month

After half term, can each child bring in a plastic bottle. We are hoping to create a poppy display by the school entrance to celebrate Remembrance Day. In preparation for the project, the children will be learning about the history behind Remembrance Sunday in assembly and writing prayers.
